I've seen someone theorize that Nellie disappearing in the house when they were kids happened because she left to visit her own funeral in the present, and that Hill House exists outside of time (like how the writing on the wall from the future also existed in the past). It's also theorized that Nell going off of her meds is the reason why rehab started working for Luke
Oooh that's cool. One of the things that (perhaps like Jimmy) bugs me about MANY horror stories is the arbitraryness of the spooky thing. Like, it has to be unpredictable or else it's not as scary when the next thing happens. So to a certain extent it can't help but feel cheap, it's just making up random crap to keep the vibe going and there's no real reason for anything. Sooo if you do have a more classic sci-fi/fantastic concept underpinning it all, that does make it more satisfying IMO. (Overall the good drama of the show outweighs my beef with the genre but it's not completely absent either.)
@@jerodast Yeah, the show does a better job than 99% of horror media at not just doing a scare for the sake of getting a reaction out of people. And as far as i'm aware, the house existing in a vacuum outside time and space IS canon, and most of the theories are unconfirmed but supported by the house lore and extrapolated on by viewers. It also helps that as the show goes on and the mysteries start to unravel, it also seems to get less scary and more emotional, because so much of the scariness was fear of the unknown. I think if the same amount of jumpscares from the first 3 episodes persisted throughout the whole show, the later episodes would feel less cohesive to me. It'd read as kind of inconsistent in tone IMO
That Bent-Neck Lady reveal had me SHOOK lol. Just... utterly goddamn depressing. This show is honestly just heartbreaking for pretty much every episode. I was sad more than I was scared T____T
seeing your death over and over again and not understanding what you're saying is such f*ckery of whatever/whoever may be behind of it lol I remember i was pretty upset for days after that episode
I am 58, I get sleep paralysis about once a month. I have since I was 13. It sucks and scares the shit out of me. To this day I sleep with some kind of light on.
Everyone in this family is haunted by something, which started at that house. Nellie being haunted by her own death and Steve resorting to drugs to escape the ghost are heartbreaking .. Great show! xD
Sleep paralysis sucks, I always try to keep my eyes closed cuz I got a wild imagination. It usually happens when I'm fatigued from a long hardworking day, my body sleeps but my mind is wide awake😭 such a scary experience not being able to move. That episode made it 10x worse especially since the youngest daughter/sister was being haunted of her death since she was a child.
I loved that the show left open the interpretation that it's all hallucinations/delusions etc and not actually supernatural... at least for the first half. I wish they left the ambiguity through to the end.
It is funny you're so reluctant to accept "yeah this is an Evil Magic House" haha. I'm not a natural fan of the genre either, but to me, in a show with "haunting" in the name, one person might be crazy, two people PROBABLY aren't crazy in the same way, and three+ people are definitely afflicted by the supernatural :) Maybe an amusing hypothetical "what if we weren't watching a horror show and these people all shared these stories in real life?" - how would we explain it? But basically the latest the show could've gotten away with "they're all unwell and need medication" without it being a total bullshit copout ending was like halfway through episode 2 :P
The first 6 episodes each go SO HARD, but 4-6 is the stronger trilogy. 5 and 6 are so elite, some of my favorite television ever, because of the bent neck lady reveal, and the wake one shot, which makes episode 6 supreme God tier episode lol
Did you think the camp counsellor was a villain in the series or something?😅 They arent reliable because they are addicts. They know that. It wasnt meant as a rude thing, shes a damn counsellor, lmao
@@JimmyMacram Again man, she's not a villain :/ Its kinda funny how shes like your nemesis though, lol 😅. But for real, shes only being a realist, as she works with addicts. Real addicts would sell their mother for a hit. You kinda need a strict system and some real talk when dealing with those people.
"why am I being put to this? I did nothing but be good to you people. Thats what I get". Pure gold.
That entire one-shot in the wake episode is a thing of beauty.

Episode 5 sold me completely on the show. Episode 6 had me thinking that this show should win ALL the awards lol.
"Poor Kevin"...is a common phrase that seems to always be a part of reactions for this episode, and it fits.
"I was right here, and none of you could see me" ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ ༽

Thank God I'm not alone. Same here. And yes, I always sleep with lights on too.
I get it too, I don't see anything creepy but it's still terrifying

Heh, glad this run of eps helped bring the show together for you! :)

theres a theory on it being caused by a certain natural mishap in the house, to say it without spoiling
People are defending the counselor but as someone who has worked on the field you are so right. Her whole approach is fucked up
Thanks, Jimmy! 😱

The therapist is the real villain of the show. And Atlanta when?
It kills me that you’re so afraid to give your real opinion so you don’t upset anyone in the comments.
Seems more like a rhetorical expression to me haha. Usually the phrase comes out when he's giving an opinion he thinks everyone disagrees with, no?
😄

F her. That speech to the group after homegirl escapes is HEINOUS.
