I've actually worked on one of these motorcycles. Despite all the cells testing fine outside the bike, the BMS refused to allow the controller to activate. Very frustrating to work on when all the dealer tools can't be used anymore. Eventually I had to give it back to the owner, and as far as I know it's still sitting in his garage if anyone else wants to take a crack at it. (In Miami).
A mate of mine had one and had a fault where the 12v side was fine but nothing form the HV side. Turned out to be a sticking contactor. No idea if that helps.
@@marsrover001 Thats a shame. I suppose this is one of the problems with tech not many people are used to. Its hard to find many people who have enough in depth knowledge to be able to properly diagnose it. Same thing happened with fuel injection, emissions devices and most new stuff that isn't just obvious. I just wait until things have had a chance to mature so someone else gets the headaches.
Needs a new controller or BMS most likely, I'd start with the BMS, cheaper...If you could find one, which I doubt, but you could make a different one work, same with the controller...
I agree with you about having gears with electric motors is something manufacturers are missing the point on. I've built a single speed electric pocket bike that could hit 40 mph eventually and now I have a 6 speed ebike that can only go 20 ish without pedaling but being able to change gears doesn't overcome my battery trying to go up hills
@CryptoCrusader33 yes I can, they are both 48v systems that use 18650 lithium ion cells, only difference is my pocket bike is 20 aH and the ebike is 10 aH. I can ride the pocket bike for hours as long as I stay away from the hills which will overload the bms if I don't let off the throttle, if I had a two speed transmission that was good for hills and flat it would be perfect

I don't watch all of your videos but when I do, I am always entertained. I don't even own a bike anymore. Well, I converted an old steel trail Huffy into an e-bike decades ago and it still runs. Does about 20mph. Love the looks people give me when I'm riding uphill without pedaling. My favorite bike I owned was my 85 Honda Interceptor. I lived in Florida then so that may have contributed to all the great memories, but it was a great bike. Thanks for all the effort you guys put into your art.

@bikesandbeards Polaris sold the Brammo Empulse assets to Cummins, and is now called Cummins Battery Systems of Talent OR. This is why you wont find Empulse parts at Victory and Indian dealers, techically you'd have to message Cummins directly.

I live in Southern Oregon not very far from Ashland, Talent areas, so when I heard the name Brammo I got a little excited. They started their bike thing in Talent, Oregon and have sadly turned their manufacturing equipment over to Cummins. I don’t know if this means they went out of business, or if they’re sharing tech. Either way, it’s good to see entrepreneurs putting little places on the map too.

9:02 tablecloth test: 1. find a very slippery and lightweight tablecloth 2. don't let the far end hang of the tables edge 3. use heavier tableware 4. polish the contact surfaces of the tableware BMW will definitely have used some of the those improvements to get as close to the perfect physics as possible.

I actually got to work on one of these exact bikes a few months ago from auction. Someone at the auction house unplugged the motor temperature sensor that was bad and throwing a code, causing the water pump to run constantly but no longer showing a code (bike just assumed the motor temp was like 500 degrees Fahrenheit). I looked up a new motor temp sensor on the parts diagram, and you have to replace the entire motor assembly, it is not available as a separate component. We were worried the ESC (or motor controller, whatever you want to call it) would not be able to limit motor current based on temperature even if the cooling system was running, and decided it was in our best interest to send the bike back to auction with issues disclosed. Maybe the bike would have been ok to ride but I didn't know.
i know they are starting to put charging stations everywhere but i still choose a gasser over a electric, you dont waite but maybe a couple mins and your on the road again, the only benefit to a electric is lower maintenance at first.. but a gasser 9 times out of 10 can be rebuilt with readily available parts.. most electrics you cant
You could probably pay someone to build you a new battery for that with better, modern cells for cheaper than the (not actually stocked) replacement battery that will also give you more range and possibly more power.
So Sean, please do a comparison of mileage in one gear (2nd or 3rd for example) to see if shifting through the gears costs you total mileage. I’ve always wondered why their wasn’t an overall final gear overdrive ratio adjustment like the old Austin Healy cars had… so did my little Dodge Colt (Mitsubishi) twin stick… thanks for the video
I think you should try the table cloth test again with one modification to the attachment. Rather than tying the table cloth at one point in the middle, try adding a dowel the width of the table cloth. That would more evenly distribute the pull under the dishes. Tie it like a water skiing rope handle. That'd do it.
Even with that modification it is impossible to do, mythbusters took their take on the ad and found out, that BMW faked it using sheets of plastic on which the dishes were placed.
I rode one of these at a victory demo day in erie pa. I was super disappointed by the acceleration, but your right, they did near the fact that it had a clutch and gear box was great. Overall I think they missed the fun factor on the bike. I had an FJ-09 at the time, and the yamaha triple motor was just so much more fun for half the price.

Mithbusters did that experiment a few yrs ago about the Table Cloth. It was a mith. They used a very thin piece of perspecs with the Table Cloth under it. That's how that add was pulled off.

Honestly the clutch on an electric makes things a little more iffy if you depend on it. The only thing that matters is the control unit and that even if it takes a direct hit it won’t change any of the power outage. For the same reason you might feel nervous starting one and not being able to “rev” the engine. I’m not a gasoline motorcycle person but I have experience with electronic control systems and the QC on them is as important as brake actuators for semi trucks.
As an EE that works with electric drives I can say the biggest reason you don't see many EV's with gear box's is because if you aren't very careful you can easily destroy the thing with instantaneous torque or burn the clutch. Its much easier to fix the motor to the wheels and limit the continuous torque then try to control the motor speed as your changing gears. Also electric motors have much better torque/power curves then ICE making them perfectly suited to direct drive. I do hope to see improvements in this as it makes no sense to equip every car on the street with oversized motors/inverters when a gearbox can allow a smaller motor to do the same job, honestly most people don't need 4 second cars.
electric bike having a traditional gearbox attached to it's motor is something that I would like to see in future on basic electric cars. When the time comes that I have to give up the combustion engine car just because just owning it becomes so expensive thanks to taxes and tree huggers, I do want a traditional manual transmission for my electric car too
You'll need to add a slight downward force when pulling the tablecloth w/ something like a pulley or short bike to "pull off" the trick. Or just use an acrylic sheet on top of the tablecloth like bmw did. We won't tell 😁
Normally besides of every fact I would choose the gas bike but nowadays the electric bikes are also fun to ride. But you have to wait to charge it other as the gas bike you just pump new gas 😅🤙🙌

I get your point about gearbox on road e-bikes, but I have over 3 years of experience with electric cross bike, and if you aren't going for a long jumps or long runs - only one speed is enough for woods/mountains exploring.
I loved that the bike can be revved up and you have gears with clutch, but unfortunately it doesn't work, because it is slow and has a very low milage. If any newer bike had something similar it would be great.

I've ridden an Empulse. Very fun bike. The range to charge time is what keeps me from owning one. starting off in 3rd gear it would keep up with a Victory Gunner.

I read in 2021, they're working with PACAR (Peterbilt/Kenworth) on a Hybrid to compete with Daimler/Benz, and of course Volvo.

BTW - Victory revised their 10 year support to 10 years of the model year. In 2019, I couldn't find some needed parts for my 2006 Vegas.
