I read somewhere someone asked why streetfighter bikes are called streetfighter bikes. Streetfighter bikes are bikes that fought the street, and the street won. Hence the no fairing🤣

I'd say the vast majority of crashes are caused by motorcyclists doing 20-40 over the speed limit through congested areas and being surprised when somebody pulls in front of them suddenly. I daily rode an FZ09 through horrible south florida traffic full of geriatrics and people with no licenses and never had any close calls because I never acted dumb where the risk of somebody pulling out was.

This is quite interesting to me, as I love the caféracer type of bike and it is completely backward lol! Caféracers would love to reduce the weight of their bikes by cutting the front and rear fenders, replacing the standard 2-people seat with a shorter one for one person, and replacing the handlebar with a pair of clip-ons to have a more aggressive riding position, ... Now I know that both the streetfighter and caféracer bikes first got their shapes due to riders' own customization of the sportbikes and standard bikes.

Naked bikes are very popular here in The Netherlands and the majority of driving schools have naked bikes to learn on and I think that is one of the reasons why a lot of people will get a naked bike as their first bike as well. Great video. I have had naked / street bikes all my life, from the 600 Bandit in the 90s to the BMW F900R right now. I use my bikes for long distance touring (up to 700m a day), track days, twisties and commuting in a major city. No other class can do all of these things well, especially in my case where I need to park off road and that means moving the bike through a narrow gate, immediately ruling out all tourers / boxer engines. The new 1000cc Hornet, with its insane pricing (£9k for base model, £10k for SP model), proves your point about the comparative great values of these bikes relative to some other classes. The main point about this class, which is never really raised in manufacturer marketing, is that if you only have the funds or the space for a single bike and you want to do everything with it, from track, to touring, to commuting, to twisties then this is by far the best class. Although I confess I never managed a wheelie on the Bandit and the BMW has wheelie control (optional of course) so I don't think I'll ever manage one ...

I loved the DL650 for its comfort, stability and wind protection, but I disliked its 'sluggishness'. I loved the SV650S for its driving characteristics and styling, but I disliked its ergonomics. Guess what kind of bike I bought as my first bike? A sensible Japanese 650 naked bike. When that bike did not suffice my needs on the track, guess which bike I bought as a second bike? A sporty (British) 675 naked bike. They are just the abaolute best all-rounders! Yes, my commute is now longer and I would like to exchange my 650 for something like an 800 sports tourer, but the 650 is still perfectly up to the task! Agreed; I ride an 09 Versys 650 daily and I love it. It may be marketed as an "adventure bike", but it is more realistically a naked bike with a windshield and a bit of extra suspension travel for soaking up pothole bumps. It can do anything and pretty much go anywhere. It's got enough power to be quicker than almost anything else on the road, it's small, light, and agile enough for filtering, cornering and weaving through traffic, it's got just enough fairings for decent weather protection, comfortable enough for long rides, sits high enough for a commanding view of traffic, and I can carry a whole cart full of groceries with only a little creative packing.

The handlebar was quite low compared to some others street fighter.
A good mention of the genre is the R1 Steel fighter. Yamaha did not have enough clip ons and fairings to ship enough R1 in France (and maybe europe). They created the steel fighter for this reason : Not even de-tuned, this bike is a very classic and rare R1 streetfighter from the factory.

I signed up to the MT series Tracer. A comfy bike you can ride hard in the twisties, in the Alps for up to 10 hours at a time! Confirmed! :)

also, in France we learn on CB500 and mostly MT-07 for the our A2 riding licence, so most (young) guys buying a bike usually buy an MT-07, hence the popularity
having learned on one, the torque, non-existent smoothness on the quick shifting and popping happy exhaust is really something compared to the Honda CMX500 I bought

I wanted an MT07 when they first came out, but I ended up with an MT09 as Australia only imported a restricted MT07 for the first couple of years. I love my MT09, but it's still arguably too much bike for a lot of situations... Hard to give up that 115HP though!

naked bikes are the SHIT... my first bike was a 2009 gold fz6r and it was TRASH but i loved it... someone bopped me at a light messed the bike up pretty bad and i took the headlight and fairings off and rode it like that for a year or so which i think started my "naked" obsessions, before upgrading to an fz09 which was so fucking fire and i wouldve still had it now... until someone hit that bike too lmaoo.. then from the legal battle from that i bought a 17' S1000rr and hated it (great bike but coming from a naked its so boring and uncomfy) then i sold it for a R1M when they first came out and i loved everything about that bike except the seating pos.... too aggressive and just un-comfy.... i took a few years break from biking to focus on work and life and just bought a FZ10 earlier this march and i think i found the bike for me forever... this bike is just so insane and comfy and fun.. no supersport could beat these wheelies or feelings i get from this bike lmao

Completely bias opinion, Honda 919s are dirt cheap for how much fun they are. Perfect to cruise to work during the week and hit the canyons in the weekend. Definitely considering a MT for my second bike. Styling and sounds got me.

Very nice piece on bikes I've seen but did not understand. The closest thing I'd ridden was a 1985 K100RS, which due to all of the seating-handlebars-pegs issues was unrideable for more than a couple hundred miles.

Back in about 2005 I bought my first bike a 2002 Honda 919 which would be classed more of a standard street bike. Even to this day the bike looks great and has aged much better then 2002 sportbikes I think because it already had a semi retro look to it. Streetfighters were a thing back then and I noticed the trend of wrecked sportbikes getting aftermarket headlamps and bars. So much ugly bike though under the fairings that it didn't always look clean.

  • @hbsupermage

Honda Hawk GT NT650 came way before all the bikes you mentioned, arguably one of the first nakes bikes, also the Z1000 came before the fz8 or fz06 and was much closer to a streetfighter or naked than a fz1

  • @ZP1993
    @ZP1993 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

While I knew that people were making streetfighters by taking broken fairings off wrecked sports bikes back when I was a kid in the 90s and 2000s,I always assumed that bikes like Triumph Thunderbird, BMW R75/5, Honda CB750 Four, Kawasaki Z1, Suzuki GT750, etc. were the original naked bikes, and the sports bikes evolved from them by people putting fairings on them.

I own a Speed Twin. 30 years ago I owned an FZR600. Completely different bikes until you ride them at 9/10 limit. The FZR was much faster and had better brakes and initial turn in. The Speed Twin stonks out of corners and that's about it. They are both very similar in performance. The Triumph looks and sound much nicer.

I think it all depends on the region. here in my country most people ride naked bikes, as full fairing bikes cost a lot and also they are usually for people with over 1 year with A1/A2 drivers licenes and they need to pass the test for the unlimited CC and HP bikes. Naked bikes are very popular in my country that is what I am saying

20 years ago I was riding a naked ZRX1200R and a gal I was dating rode a ZX-7R. They had the same hp, with the Ninja having a rad higher top speed. My naked ZRX would stomp it. It would walk away from anything that didn’t rhyme with ‘Busa.
