  • The days are getting shorter, but that doesn't mean the show must end. Join me as I travel to Fulwood, an area of Preston to see 19th century workhouses, 21st century mosques and Savick Brook's prehistoric foundations.

Interesting history about the workhouse. You could also include Masons Wood and the amphitheatre behind Preston College.

I wanted to visit Mason's Wood because it's one of the best places in the region to see the bluebell season. Just never got around to it this year.

I have enjoyed watching some of your films this morning. They are informative and interesting. Thank you so much. Could you please comment on the item below re the old Workhouse . I think it must be a unique building to be saved from destruction.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to being able to travel further afield than my home county in all honesty.

I wonder if you are aware that the council has given permission, for the old workhouse on Watling St Rd, which is on this film, to be demolished to make way for a "Community Centre". It will be directly opposite the new mosque and apparently will consist of classrooms, kitchen, childcare facilities and more. Much of the surrounding land will be for car parking. As this is is a grade 2 listed building, in Fulwood, Preston, a Conservation Area. Any idea how this situation is possible please???

I wasn't aware of that, but after a quick browse online I can see there were plans put forward by the Bhailoks. From the plans at least, the workhouse wouldn't be demolished, but would contain various things of use to some of the community but perhaps not all, if the SMRC moved out. The building itself is massive and I don't know if it's being used to its full potential, but it's about whether a potential new owner and users will look after it.
Whatever the future brings, I just hope it doesn't end up mysteriously in flames like a fair few of Preston's historic buildings have.

Woops, thanks for letting me know. It looks like in the final second there's a snippet of audio that I forgot to get rid of in the editing process, because of that the video continues on until that audio stops. I'll see what post production editing can be done!
