What is Okyu Moxibustion?

  • Applying a pressure isn't the only way to stimulate acupressure points. I will show you how you can use heat to stimulate the point using Japanese moxibustion called okyu. (Massage Monday 572)

    I will be trying this this weekend. Doesn't seem so scary now. Still have to convince my sis though: Especially that I won't burn her hair lol. We got a huge box of Moxa stuff from a friend recently and have just been looking at it.

    Ahh, so this is okyu. I used to hear about it all the time, but never used or even saw it.
    Is this originally from Japan or China?
    I'm really luvin' your channel.

      I looked up the history. Okyu was born more than 2000 years ago among the Northern tribes in China. Then it went to India and practiced as Buddhist medicine. It was brought to Japan about 1200 years ago by Buddhist evangelists. Thank you for the question!

      Yeah, that's interesting because although Buddhism began in India and spread through China to Japan, Okyu spread through the opposite path from China through India to Japan via Buddhism. Thanks again.
