- Video shows how I replaced the gas lines on a 2009 Chevy Cobalt (with fuel filter option). The line had rusted through by the driver's side rear tire. Replacement lines were purchased from www.linestogo.com

Excellent Video!!!!!!!!!!!! Just a tip, never do any gas line repairs in the garage or near the house.......you cannot get the car to the curb fast enough if the SHTF...........It should be a LAW that all brake, fuel and transmission lines are stainless steel right from the factory. Charge us the extra 100.00 up front and save us from these headaches that were the first thing to come down the assembly line and the car was built around! Brining and over salting the roads is killing the underside of all of our vehicles. Years ago nobody ever had to replace any of these lines.

Ethanol in the gas helps corrode the lines too.

Thanks for posting, great video. Do you recall what part number you used from linestogo? They do not show an option for a 2009 with an external fuel filter. Did you use a set listed as 2008? It looks like its the same as the 2009, but not sure. Thanks
There's now a recall 2008-10 cobalt and hhrs on the fuel lines. It was on the news yesterday.

@@diywithdave3186 it's not really official for now GM is working with the Highway traffic association on the issue. I'm sure the recall will happen. I have 2010 coupe and so far no smell and leaks.

Thanks for this video. Very helpful but why did you replace all the lines? Was it just for demonstration purposes?
The lines that I used came as a kit. Individual sections were not available. I didn't want to mess with trying to custom bend an individual section and hoping that I could get it not to leak.

This is a common problem in this POS car along with its Pontiac G5 counterpart. I'm on the fence in junking my pile o' crap and paying for this stupid repair. I do not want to do this crap myself.

@@diywithdave3186 I sold a geo metro and junked a minivan to get one of the XFE models. I miss my geo metro. That's pathetic. That car was fun (except driving to speed and to pass on the highway).

My Cobalt's fuel line is leaking, and the local garage wants $1,250 to replace it, including labor.
It was not an easy job, but definitely less expensive to DIY.
BTW, I found a different garage that did it for $600, including labor. They said it only took two hours' labor. Not sure if one or two guys worked on it.
@@funkervogt47 I wonder if they were going to do the same thing, patching the old one vs. replacing the leaking line or both lines?
@Tin Tizzy personally I would have some reservations about doing that. Depending where the leak is something might get caught on the hose and pull it off or cut it. Then there would be the potential of spraying gas all over the bottom of the car, in combination with sparks, that would not be good.
They fully replaced my old fuel lines. I saw it.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how difficult of a job is this? I know my way around a car and I'm sure I can do this, but I'm concerned about how long it'll take my inexperienced self to do it as well as the various tricks in dealing with fuel lines...any additional info would be helpful. This is my son's car - a 2008 Cobalt. Thanks.
The most difficult part was figuring out how to get it apart, and dealing with the broken volt for the fuel filter. It took about a week or so of working on it after work and whatever time I could spare on the weekend. Part of the difficulty I had should be reduced with the tips that I shared on the video. If you have the replacement parts on hand and the required tools you could probably get it done in 16-24 hours, assuming that you don't do this kind of stuff for a living.
@@diywithdave3186 After watching your vid I decided "no way!" Especially with my son living two hours away at college. I knew there was no way I could do it in one day. He's found a garage that will do it for ~$550. That is def worth it!!

I cut my lines to repair this on my 08 g5, but I didn't think to mark which line is the fuel feed, can anyone tell me if it is the line nearest the left side of the car or the inner line, I know 1 is fuel , 1 is vapor... I can send pix if you need to see...
The fuel line will have the filter (25:16) on it by the gas tank, the other will originate at the vapor canister (black plastic box). At the engine, the liquid line will go to the fuel rail (10:50) on the engine and the vapor line turns into plastic at the engine and it connects as shown at 11:20 in the video. As long as you get the ends of the same hose in the right place you should be good. If you cut the line and don't know which is which on the bottom of the car, you could blow air through the line and see which one it comes out on the bottom of the car.
@@diywithdave3186 im splicing them with 6-an, I didn't pull the whole lines out... I just wasn't sure which line fed fuel and which 1 was vapor, I figured it out.... I traced them from the engine to underneath the car... the inner most line is fuel... I didn't think to mark them before cutting them... thank you for the response... :)

@@quinnsack did you know that there is many times more historical evidence that the Bible is accurate than any other ancient document that exists? We have roughly 5000 ancient Biblical manuscripts and the next closest is Homer's Iliad/Odyssey at around 800. Also the most plausible explanation for Jesus reported resurrection from the dead is that he actually did rise from the dead. You are free not to believe it but the evidence is against you. If someone is hallucinating you generally don't believe what they say let alone risk your life telling people about what they say.
Dude… even praying and regurgitating scripture will not help you make a Cobalt drivable.
