      ​@@Zetsubou-69420 Snnuy plays a lot of PoC, he loves it. Sadly, PoC is not as fun to watch in terms of streaming as pvp, so it's not very good for money incoming for creators

    Silco may not be a character that fits the Summoner's Rift, but Legends of Runeterra? As a final boss of an Arcane themed Path of Champions? Unfortunately he won't be around much in season 2

      @@ehrman9478 It's highly speculated that he becomes Warwick, and based on the body hanging over Singed in the S2 Arcane teaser, it looks like Riot is at the very least nodding that this is a plausible theory that Silco gets reincarnated.

      Yeah I never played the PVP mode on LoR because of how absolutely frustrating it was going against players and the wealth of absolutely irritating dog shit decks everyone was using because of how effective they were. PvE mode was always the go to for me because it let me have fun with the cards and the decks I could play around with.

    Foe me LOR was the first CCG I was heavily invested in,.I still remember the first day I booted it up, It was a magical journey to build all the fun decks around my beloved Undying and try to make it work. I was not delusional, I knew that the LOR as I have played it is basically in deathbed. But.... it still hurts.

    I have been saying for years that the Riot MMO should have the option to play Legends of Runeterra with NPCs and other characters, similar to how you can challenge NPCs to a game of Gwent in The Witcher 3. This would keep the game alive and fulfill their goal to connect their games imo

      Buddy, by the time the MMO comes out, LoR might as well be dead. I don't know how long Path of Champions can keep Legends of Runeterra afloat for, but there's absolutely no way the MMO is ready to be released or whether the devs can even incorporate LoR as a game mode into the darn MMO.

    Reading between the lines a little bit - there's a huge technical challenge with LoR that's hard to even encapsulate. It was their first cross-platform game, their first mobile game, and the only League IP game they've ever made that doesn't utilize existing assets. It has a bespoke client, a bespoke engine, a bespoke monetization policy, and it has and has had to enact all three of those challenges on three platforms - iOS, Android, and PC - which are wildly different in architecture, enforcement, and standardization.
    They were counting on their core business model working, and they tried to let it solidify for a long time. When it didn't, it created a crisis - do we revamp the core business model to work? If so, how much money will it cost to rewrite the game to work that way? How will we translate existing investments? How long will it take to implement? How much money will we lose while we rewrite it? How many ways can we explore wiring in new monetization options into its current context, and, how likely are they to succeed?
    It sucks, but it seems like the game they made - the client, the core interactions, everything - wasn't robust enough to handle incremental changes to its monetary policy, which is the entire reason Path of Champions exists. It's functionally a separate game, it even launches into something that feels like a different client. In this new space, they can iterate and explore and experiment without corrupting or modifying anything extant in the old space. I can think of 30 or 40 ways they can monetize existing stuff in LoR by reusing content PoC, and most of them aren't even predatory or shitty. Just a shame that there's no way forward for the core PvP game, which was such a blast to consume as a viewer. I mean, I spent hundreds of hours watching LoR creators, who are some of the best online people.

      There's an interview with Eric Shen from the video, and what you said is on point. The problem, though, is that "LoR is very memory intensive". It was their excuse for not even having stuff like animated card backs, fancier borders, or animated skins. When asked about skins for non-champions, the reply was that "skins are coded for champions and cards that are directly related to them." I'm not a coder or game developer, but it doesn't add up to me, so it sounds like there was way too much tech debt that was never properly addressed.
      There was also other stuff that was alluded to, process wise. It just sounded like the entire creative process was incredibly slow and inefficient.

      I think opening some ideas to the public for different pvp options could really help pvp
      Magic The Gathering survives off of people making new modes that wizards hasn't ruined yet and didn't make themselves (plus collecting now I guess and draft)

    If they really mean what they say then using LOR to continue building their world and characters is the right thing to do....LOR isn't going to make them a bunch of money but it's influence on the IP is huge and I hope they see that...I've never played LOR but I do love the lore ... Arcane brought me in... Ruined King showed me other places beyond Piltover n Zahun. Now I'm facing a wall because I've caught up on the lore and I truly hope Riot understands what a magical gift they made for us and how fragile it can be ...I'm walking proof that there market tactics work I just hope it all ain't to just be able to sell more Lux skins

      I think you really underestimate how heavy Lor is taming tools on company in a business perspective.
      It's not just that they didn't make enough money, it's they only make a fraction of the cost since day 1. And this game is not the only money sink Riot has. Forge is always guarantee loss no matterr what game they make. Multiple projects for the same league ip in the pipeline that draining resouces without contributing anything to the ip. Arcane as much as of a success it was, wouldn't be that projitable given that the project took many year in the making while most people can watch it free on twitch. Even the Esport sence has always been a money sink.
      They are all losses in service of keeping LoL relevant on the internet sphere, and out of all of them, forge and lor just did the worse.
      But you can clearly see people at riot still love the game and want to keep it "alive". If it was any company on earth, this game wouldn't have been made in the 1st place.

      It's crazy because idk why they made LOR free to play...they have the right ideal using multiple forms of media to boost LOL but it seems the fundamental problem is they are using all the other media to prop up and support LOL ..Each different form they create needs to be self sufficient and sustainable not used to fund and support through their main IP

      It's sad because Arcane brought me to Riot products ...It got me invested into Runterra which lead to buying the Ruined King game and to playing WR and learning to play Lol ...So the fundamental ideal works now they need to use these tools they have bring in more like me(I'm invested in the world without even really caring about the games at all) and to retain their core consumers

Personally, I don't see how the Aatrox line would get into this video and stay there through all of production with noone pointing out that Aatrox was already playable. My assumption would be that the 20 new champions are going to be playable, but Aatrox and Norra (plus some others, presumably) will also be new bosses/paths.

    With all these constellation/more progress, I really just hope for a really replayable adventure, just a way of setting ur own difficulty like with hades, more randomized fights like the monthly challenge but not only being 1/2 fights where u can actually play for longer
    That's all i want to be able to play a lot again

      I hope they cut out some of the grind and make deck power more translatable between champions. I don't want to have to run through the Teemo mission every time I try a new deck.

      To be honest, seeing they're so heavily pivoting into the roguelike mode, and even adding more metaprogression (the way to make a roguelike more casual friendly) I wouldn't be surprised if they stop treating LoR like a card game with a roguelike mode, and more like a roguelike card game (ala slay the spire) and if that does happen, I can only imagine PoC will get even better.

      for when thwy hit you with a bunch of unavoidable damage several battles in a row

      It was very advertised initially but it still didn't do that well. Of course advertising went down as the game stop being able to pay for its cost

      It did have a ton of advertising and was a pretty big thing on release but most people got on tried it out and quit. It reached its target audience and actually got a solid playerbase. It just has a very unsustainable business model

    They really did bad advertising in my country (Italy). For example the YT channel was no longer updated even if there were the full trailers with voice acting, sometimes released only on FB and not on YT and viceversa leaving a lot of wasted work until they stopped posting anywhere

    I really hope that in the future when the MMO comes out, they start lor again in game but from version 1 and this time make it like a real like card game with limited number of cards and rarities , packs to open and stuff like that . Cards that drop from legendary monsters , etc... you should be able to buy the packs from ingame currency ... then I'm happy ... start from the first version of the game and slowly and steadily realise new cards.

      I am pretty sure TFT, League, and LoR have different player bases so putting them into the same client wouldn't change much.

    I loved LoR so much, much more than League itself. Which is why it was really hard for me to quit, even with my limited budget I was so intent on supporting the game lest it died and bought everything I could. However, during the ruination event, the game did die, for me at least. I felt so punished for trying to complete the event, while also completing the same event for LoL and TFT, that I eventually just quit altogether.
    I'm just screaming into the void to get this off my chest. I'm ultimately glad the game isn't dead nor dying anytime soon. I do look forward to coming back one day because while, the PvE content wasn't as developed back then, it was still very enjoyable. Only time will tell.

    I literally only play POC it’s what I’ve been looking for in a ccg. It is also a great way for them to maybe try expanding the story using the fights.

      Except PoC isn't a CCG......it doesn't let you build your own deck or care about what cards you own, which means what you've been looking for is not a CCG.

A CCG is a specific term for a card game where you build a deck and play against an opponent using cards you get and keep over time that you can use and reuse in other decks, and TCG is where players are able to trade cards beyond just collecting them. PoC is a Roguelike Deckbuilder, which sounds the same but is very different given that you don't really own those cards, you draft them for one game and then they're gone, and the deckbuilding is mechanic done as part of the game mode, not as a preperation for the game. I think what you're looking for is either Draft or Deckbuilder games, which are similar and can be both single and multiplayer, but a CCG is probably not for you given that it leads to a meta with optimised decks.

    i think that the best thing they can do is mimic the success of commander for Magic. Singleton oriented around 1 specific champion that you can put into play at any point (unless other conditions restrict or enable it) with the tax for if it dies and returns to its "command zone" or whatever they would call it. The issue is that their game just DOES NOT have enough cards. they need lots and lots of stuff, but also a game mode to rationalize having that many cards and potentially cards that do essentially the same things. regardless, singleton is extremely fun because the diversity of your decks is crazy.
    with singleton though, maybe they declare one as the center piece for your deck, no copies of that champion in your deck whatsoever. Then the champions you can place are maybe a total of 4 UNIQUE champions (so 1 champion as the center piece with 0 duplicates as the commander and 3 or less unique ones, but those may have duplicates within which function normally in the LoR playstyle turning into spells if they are in hand and what not) Those champions would be the only cards allowed to be duplicates though and each other card would be restricted to 1 per and follow the regions set by the different champions you chose. So maybe you choose to do a targon 1 region deck with solari and lunari theme and you can only have targon cards. The issue then with thiss mode is that LoR needs to add a metric butt ton of cards to the game. from the perspective of riot though, it just doesnt seem reasonable.
    they also need casual game modes sorta lie TFT weith the augments and they can throughout the game choose maybe one or two augments like the ones in path.
    anyways, more gamemodes and deck types (runeterra decks were amazing) and just generally ways to get diverse aside from just regions and things in them

    I have to say that i play Runeterra everday in the morning while eating toast and coffee
    But the MEANING of MAYBE ppl playing only path of champions like me is because i only do 1 story to have enought XP for the 3 diamond cases rewards at the end of the week.
    3 diamond cases = receving lots of cards and green stuff to make cards that i want.
    pvp will take more time.

    PoC is the most played because theres a daily quest for 5 wins (and might as well complete a 6-9 match run while you're at it) while PvP daily bonus is only for 3 wins

      That's really bad argument. One 7-battle adventure in PoC takes much less time to complete than even 5 PvP games, because AI doesn't rope you and always plays cards instantaneously. Plus winning in PoC is much easier, so you will definitely get your wins, while in PvP there is no guarantee you will win all your 3 first games, so you might play additional games which is more time. People really should stop coping and accept that PoC is just much more popular.

      i played POC a LOT, but only because i earn currency to use it in PVP. so without PVP updates tehres no point in playing POC for me.

    interesting that they been working on it before hearthstone, i applied and asked about any card games in the work for riot in 2017 and was rejected mainly because there wasnt a card game project for me to be signed up

    If it wasn't for that video Bricky made a while ago praising LoR, I would have never considered trying it out. Ended up loving it and even reached top 100 on the ladder.
    On the other hand, TFT is right in my face every time I open LoL, so naturally it takes one losing streak to take a break and give TFT a shot.
    TLDR: Both are amazing games, however, only TFT reminds you that it exists.

    I mean if the Emporium rotated more frequently and actually biased more towards things I wanted then it would be much better. I'm sick of seeing something I have no interest in buying be in there for almost a month or even a couple weeks

    The thing I wish for the most in poc, is a reset to all rewards!
    Not a reset to the characters we’ve been building stronger, but I want all adventures to reset, so you can gain relics and chests for them again.
    It was awesome gaining rewards for those missions, but now, as someone who has all characters in 3 stars and most of them in max level, I’m missing the game incentive to keep playing!
    So that’s also why I’m suuuper excited for these poc changes!

      Not sure if this works for LoR but in league you can message the support and have them remove stuff from your account. It's worth trying in your case at least

    I hope the game doing well after this, i do play pve a lot but pvp is what keep the community alive, pve player keeps things for themself, incuding me, you don't see much topic about pve in the community. I tried to be optimistic but i don't see a community during the pvp hibernation time

      This is making me cry 😢 I’m not that fond of PVE. I only play it when I’m extremely busy during the week so I can get more rewards in the weekly vault.
      I don’t get satisfied with beating AI with a random deck, nor enabling combos in PoC (cause it’s so easy). I get frustrated losing as well because it’s so time consuming. *sigh*
      I was actually surprised when a friend made an account and he had the option to play PoC from the beginning, which wasn’t the case for me. I got on LoR during Rise of Tides.
      Anyway- just needed to let this out my chest, especially after realizing that one of the best communities in the world of video games is brain dead.

    I saw this from a mile away, still rockin' my LoR beta icon. I was able to get so many free cards throughout just playing/completing quests, I'm surprised more people didn't play LoR because of how accessible some of the cards are. It was definitely fun while it lasted, looking forward to more PvE content!

    So the thing why so many players play pve is the fact that to get the most resources you are incentifized to win at least 3 games in pve and 3 games in pvp so the pvp players play both but there are also people that play only pve, I think that the amountnof people that play pve will drop once the competitive part of the game is removed there will be a drop in the pve community as well

    I didn't know they had a PvE in the game, I played it when released and really enjoyed it but lost track of the game since I didn't have enough time. Now with this new shift to refocus it on PvE I'm actually looking forward to it :)

    They can totally have canon story. There is already a system where every champion can play all the default adventure. But then for some champion there is some extra adventure called campagne that comes with very minimalistic stories with comics and dialog. They could just improve on those. Give some to every champion and make it canon.

    Its sad to hear that LoR has been struggling so much. Honestly props to riot for keeping it alive, even if they have to let PvP die down. It is such a great game, but PvP was also struggling a lot in terms of being fun to play since Bandle

    You mentioned that "most companies would shut it down at this point." Riot has had a habit of tweaking EVERYTHING and seeing how much they can get away with. Passes slowly getting less and less rewards, events having more BE rewards than special resources. If Riot had shut down LoR at the same time as the rest of the drama, i think would too far and they knew that. They have such a tendency to say one thing and then change tune months/a few laters. Jayce's rework, Riot Forge getting the axe after just a few years, saying theyre taking twisted treeline away for rotating game modes that they just said THIS YEAR that we would actually have less downtime between each one. Ive played this game since season 3 and im not going anywhere, but as a long time fan boy i have to stay grounded and realize that Riot never changes.

    I get it too, with the champs changing they didnt want to keep things like that as it would not be the same supposedly, but I mean come on. Copy, Paste character, change the name for that mode only, you have a state of the character for just that mode, problem solved right? That game mode was so good, so was the Star Guardian one, but this one had earnable skills and stuff to customize the champs for the mode, so much replayability, so fun, loved it.

    I hope someday LoL will have a mod creation options for community modes. I don't like DotA that much but I really like creative modes that appear there from time to time.
    Because I have a bunch of fun Ideas for PvE that Riot themselves would almost never implement:
    - LoL TD game with champions as "turrets"
    - Ability Draft - where everyone picks 1-3 champions and then everyone drafts themselves a passive, Q, W, E and R from a set of 3 random champions of selected pool.
    - Ultimate theft - Everyone's champion has Sylas ult as a replacement of their own but it steals original ult of enemy champion.
    Also I'm sure modders will find a way to bring back old PvE modes like Starguardian event or Odyssey. And maybe create a few new Doom Bots...

    Honestly... I always think about how awesome it is that there is a league of legends card game... I primarily play League soloq and TFT but I always imagine enjoying LoR... recently there has been much talk about the future of LoR and this has me worried... So today will be my first day playing and getting into, I want to see this succeed and its so sad to hear it hasn't been doing well. If you love the league universe we have to support it, I want to continue to see these games and these worlds grow. I love it much like the children of the 90's loved Disney and Pixar. Thank you Riot for not giving up on your other games!!!

    PoC is easily the most fun aspect of the game. I do recall LoR having something of a draft mode once and I preferred that over the construction formats simply because a good portion of the meta game. Back when I only played Magic, you could still make non-meta decks and see a fair amount of success, but in LoR, it always felt like you couldn't get away with that as well. And even with the diversity of champions in the game, I rarely saw that diversity reflected in ladder.
    In PoC, it's always partially a draft and deck construction is an active part of the strategy. The additional rules added to the matches on top of that, including champion unique ones, gives a variety to the gameplay that keeps things interesting.
    So while it is nice that PvE content will be getting the most focus going forward, cutting the team still feels like a bit much; like, maybe stop with the over the top animations, first?

      Yes-> 70% chance you win. No->95% chance you lose
      It became boring to lose to the same, uninspired decks over and over again

    It's sad to see a generous game like LoR struggling this much. I know they don't want to put the classic CCG monetization system into the game but I think they should now. Nothing wrong with using gacha card packs and skins opening system if the game is still giving enough resources to enjoy the game. Look at Shadowverse monetization system for example

    I just wanted a decent draft mode, I guess it will never happen and I'm forced back into HS arena, fuck me.
    Game was indeed under-monetized but man the constant going back and forth without really going all-in was their downfall: PVP then PVE then PVP then PVE feels like a very confused upper management.

    Honestly, they've already got such a big grind set up in PoC, I don't think people would mind if they gave us options to pay our way through the grind. Some items are so grindy that you can only get one from a loot box that you can buy with in game currency that takes about a month to accumulate enough. Just give us more ways to buy these things. Hell, if stardust was a purchasable currency, LoR's income would skyrocket.

    About the 2011 development thing and hearthstone and you mentioning they "missed the train" on that one, they actually partnered up with cygames before or at least attempted to. The R and D for that failed collab lead to Shadowverse. That being said, please take this with a grain of salt as I've only heard this from an AMA session with one the "real" rioters (we were outsourced rioters)

    Thx for the video. I'm pessimistic about LoR's PvP future. I saw Gwent die a slow death, for the same reasons, lack of profit. Now the 2 games are different, but there are enough similarities in their story to make me believe LoR will ultimately also shutter in the next couple of years. Unless the PoC monetization model is more sustainable, we'll have to wait and see.

    Honestly, i'm kinda interested, because i am guilty of this, i farmed PoC 80% more for Exp
    However i hope if they do shift to PoC they add in a deck building feature to PoC. So that you're collection does something... Like you can add in up to X cards to your deck if you own them in PvP

    I really hope that the change is real and they focus on turning Lore into a roguelike deck builder, not a casual PoC. I think that only in that way may Lore have a future of surviving.

    Thing is, since Path of Champions released I almost played LoR everyday buying the Season Passes and even buying Skins for my fav. Champs just for aesthetic reasons.
    But then they fired a bunch of guys and said they would only focus on PvP going onward. I felt so scammed by that. I genuinely wanted to support them, cuz I really liked Path of Champions and was looking forward to whats to come.
    But after that, I never bought a season pass or skin again, cuz they themselves said, that the money wouldnt be used to improve Path of Champions.
    Im not sure if its too late for me to return to it tho...

    I think they can make you build a little deck for an adventure. I wouldn't mind paying shards to build strong or fun deck to play an adventure. LoR is so generous in giving shards away anyways. I would burn down my shards so fast if I get to build my own adventure deck.

    i feel like they should make it a FULL on PvE game, like make it literally the lore in a game, make some big battles in it, like for example kayle/morgana vs aatrox (that could POTENTIALLY be a cooperative gamemode) but I feel like PvP doesn't do as much as PvE. So basically make it a full on PvE game, and for example make some fun things/events, like a ´´sing off battle´´ between kda and heartsteel/pentakill (potentially selling skins)
