LOL, cardinal birds can be incredibly territorial! I have already seen a cardinal tapping on a car door mirror when he saw his own image. Pretty funny.
When Cardinal said "you're not getting the hint so I'mma just sit here and eat my lunch" that was a power move 🤣 he didn't look vigilant but he still blocked every attempt by the jays.
This answers my question I have been thinking of: Which bird is more dominant - for the looks of this, the cardinal (shrugs off not one but two Jays)... which makes sense - in my backyard, the (male) cardinal fights off and scares away the grackles for the seeds in the feeder. I knew Blue Jays were "mean," but did not know if it would back down from a cardinal. Thanks for the post.
I don’t think the cardinal was chasing the chickadees off. My chickadees usually grab a seed and fly off to eat it then come back for another. It looked like that’s what the chickadees in this video were doing.
Cardinals are almost as big as blue jays. & that conical beak on the cardinal- meant for cracking open seed shells can be a good weapon I'd need be. Cardinals around my feeders aren't afraid of jays- they chase blue jays out of my feeders often.

Cardinals can be VERY aggressive once they claim a feeding station. However, seeing this one male hold off two big Blue Jays is quite something.

Nick Jasper I saw another video where the Cardinal flies away when the Blue Jay arrives. So I guess it depends on the individual bird.

Usually cardinals are not that agressive; however, I have seen a male cardinal chase red bellied wood peckers or even grackles from my feeder.

St. Louis approves, Toronto is sad. But as other videos show this is a rare redbird. Most give way to the jaybird in blue.
That's not a smart redbird.
