II goes absolutely OFF on this one. His drum playthrough of this track is insanity. The song on its own requires expert-level drumming, but he throws in crossovers and extra fills, all while looking like he's relaxing on a beach. That splash you noticed is actually his China. I think it's 16 inches and sits low on his right side. He switches over to it when the guitars get extra tight and chuggy to get that awesome staccato feel.

I could be wrong but think in terms of studio recording its just Vessel and II. Vessel apparently does all the vocals, piano, synth and guitar. Then obviously II on drums. Think the rest of the band are touring members only?

@mickporter7598 I believe Vessel used his touring members on the TMBTE album. Mainly the background voices. After having watched all their live shows I can find, if you listen closely, especially on Vore, you can hear it's the same background voices on the album. And IV also screams on Vore, the Summoning and Rain.

Think this was the second ST I heard. Love the music video (The Love You Want has a great one too) . I’m glad they did some amount of conventional MVs but really liked the characters/avatar visualizer concept for the last album.

Sleep Token is just Songwriting madness :D It always surprises me how they throw in a bunch of stuff that shouldnt work but somehow fit perfectly

So a big thing that isn't super known is that for studio recordings Vessel does everything but the drums. 3 and 4, the bassist and other guitarist, are only used for touring. Vessel writes all the songs and is hands on with producing the songs too. That this comes mostly from one man's head is outstanding

Sleep Token immediately bonds to your soul. I have never heard 1 song from a band and instantly downloaded everything available from them.
This song just bangs so incredibly hard. As long as you go back and listen to everything else before Euclid, you'll be set up for the wild ending.

So happy you did this!! This is the proof that they *can* do the commercially-viable, basic-structure, radio-play songs. And omg the drummer (ii) is insane; On most tracks he has his own unique through line. When I want to introduce someone without scaring them away, especially of they don’t have a broad ear, I give them this. And as a chemist I love the lyrics.

I would have been a terrible reactor because I heard a few Sleep Token songs and went and bought all 3 LPs, both EPs, and downloaded Jaws and The Way That You Were, then binged for weeks nonstop, I would have had no genuine first time hearing reactions LOL

I learned what music was supposed to be when i 1st heard Tool...nothing compared for almost 25 years until i heard Sleep Token. Since their 1st EP they have had the gift of being very special. And that's exactly what they are and we are blessed to be alive for it all...they recently signed with RCA...so lets see what comes around the corner from Vessel and crew...WORSHIP!!
I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to experience ST. I actually JUST got Sundowning after a year of being a fan and wearing out TMBTE and TPWBYT soooo yeah 👍

I believe he is using an 18" Turk China (drumplay video shows them i think its this cymbal) from Istanbul cymbals during that first verse. Another fantastic reaction my friend! Alkaline is a fantastic soundscape on the 2nd album.
Descending has so many layers on it, I'd recommend dissecting that track next!
II is just Godly. He's a non-metal drummer playing metal and the results are out of this world!

When you get back to reacting to more Sleep Token, you should do a double video of The Night Does Not Belong to God (the first song on their first album Sundowning) straight into Euclid (the last song from TMBTE.) The band is crazy! Worship!

This is the first sleep token song I ever heard months back and immediately I was in, I do find it somewhat sad that sleep token doesn't actually do band music videos where you can see the members playing but I get part of their whole thing is anonymity and such, but still even wearing their costumes they could still get away with it since they perform live that way too. But the visuals they do produce are fairly cool nonetheless. Music store story again, their song "this night does not belong to God" I played on a piano and I had a lady who walked by hearing the notes ask me if that was a song from "my church" lol. Was a great day.

Someone already mentioned it, but the drummer as a couple videos of this song, Alkaline, and another song called Hypnosis. The videos are under "An Offering from II" and you can watch how he just goes nuts on the drums. So good.
I know you are trying to go back to their early stuff so just dont be disappointed or expect their songs to be like the TMBTE album. There earlier stuff is just as musically enhancing, but some of them are not hard at all, some are lol, and there are so many different styles in music mushed altogether in some songs that it's just mind-blowing. Great reaction. Can't wait to hear more. Go back and watch that video when you get a chance and you're not posting, I think you will really enjoy it just to watch it and listen at the same time lol.

When you do go back to their early stuff you will be blown away by Vessel's musicianship. He is so good it's almost sickening lol. 😅
But once you start listening to the older songs, you're gonna want to listen to all of them. It's a wonderful experience to just put on One and let play all the way through TMBTE....mind altering music right there... not a skip on it lol. I'm here for it!
