    The Dominion 1 is my favorite mono synth and this is quickly climbing the ranks of my favorite sounding polys. There's something about hearing this synth that makes me feel like I'm returning home again after being away for 20 years.

    This synth has a real primitive, retro-futuristic sound. I like it! Also, I really enjoy your playing!

      Thank you! Yes, it's both retro and futuristic at the same time. Its slightly rough edges are also appealing. It sounds... real. Genuine.

    Had a Jupiter 6 for a decade, picked up an mks80 this year and 100% agree with you on the tonal character of this synth - definietly in Super JX/mks80 territory. It's likely I'll pick one up and a/b it with the mks80. Winner takes all, loser goes to reverb/ebay!

    • @dfmn8650
      @dfmn8650 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can buy this and A/B it all you want but I bet that MKS80 won’t be going anywhere.

    • @supermonkeycollider

      I'm not a collector. If it doesn't inspire, it doesn't stay.

    • @dfmn8650
      @dfmn8650 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My comment had nothing to do with being a collector. I was implying that as nice as this MFB sounds I can’t imagine it’s going to sonically cover what the MKS80 offers and more. I just don’t see these two fighting for the same space but everyone’s ears are different.

    I really like the last two Jazzy E-Piano patches and the playing. Nicely done. I'd also love to hear some pads and bass patches as I've heard mixed reports about the low end. I expect the pads to be lovely though.

    • @maisonvague
      @maisonvague  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for listening! Pads will sound very nice on the Synth Pro. Bass, I’m not so sure yet. It seems to work best with mid-range polyphonic timbres. In my second demo, I needed to resort to a slight EQ boost to bring out more of the low end in the last track. Overall, though, I think it’s a great instrument with lots of potential.

    Can you make it sound like an oberheim? Some pads would be nice to hear

    • @maisonvague
      @maisonvague  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It should be able to produce some Oberheim-like sounds. They probably won't sound as beefy as an OB-Xa, but I think it can evoke the general character. I'll see what I can come up with.

    Holy Moly this synth sounds amazing. Great job of demoing the sonic possibilities as well! I loved the EP sounds, would you share a bit of info on how you program the synth to make such a sound?

    • @maisonvague
      @maisonvague  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yes, it’s a great sounding synth. About those EP sounds, unfortunately, I didn’t save them. I was having too much fun making patches, recording them, then quickly moving on. The only critical elements I can remember are modulating the VCA for the tremolo effect and using the filters in serial. If I stumble upon those sounds again, I’ll take note and return with more info.

      Build quality is as par with other good companies. Firmware bugs is where mfb has had always non adressed issues. But hey on a good day when they fire up all good to go they possibly have the best sounds in the electronic oriented game vs any other .

    Very good sounding analogue poly synth and very nice price!
    If it not has some ridiculous flaws: No sustain CC, no legato mode. Shame on MFB. They have not understood that every synth must have these features. Kopfschüttel.

    Nice demo, but sounds nothing like a Jupiter 6. I find that a very strange statement.

  • @NicoHolloman
    @NicoHolloman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Am I the only one who thinks this synth sounds a bit thin and fizzy? The main problem seems to be the filter, which doesn't sound rich, smooth, or musical to me. Really too bad since this synth is spec'd out and showed so much promise. Glad you guys seem to be liking it though, and thanks for the demo Maison!

    • @msxwiki
      @msxwiki 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Synth Pro doesn't unleash its musical capabilities here. Let's wait for a deeper demonstration.

    • @derekbaker3279
      @derekbaker3279 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree 100%, and not every patch impressed me. It's a really nice synth & it has character (and these patches were designedwell). IMHO, some of the sounds were really nice, but did not grab me emotionally & it felt like they lacked the 'weight'.necessary to do that to me.
      Having said that, I am trying to keep in mind that, generally, analogue poly synths don't sound as beefy as mono synths. Analogue poly synths & mono synths require different architectures to produce the best possible raw tone, and it's difficult to design a synth that can produce raw tones well in both modes.. (The good news is that effects can thicken-up the sound. Finally, a thinner sound is necessary to have a poly sit in a mix & still make space available for other instruments. For example, the famed Jupiter 8 isn't as fat or thick sounding as mono synths of the time, but it sits in a mix beautifully & still retains its character.
      So the thinner sound may not be a disadvantage, but YMMV. 🙂

    • @msxwiki
      @msxwiki 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@derekbaker3279 I do think polysynths can sound as beefy as a monosynth does. Just play an original OB-X :-) Maybe they sound 'beefy' in a different way because the 'mono' user tends to do different things with a monosynth.

  • @8bitDude0

    This is more zippy and clangy than any Roland, sharp in an American way, but 'accurate' in a Japanese way.

    Impressive. But I have heard that MFB support is dead fish in the water. This is not acceptable when you spend your hard earned cash on a machine like this.
