    1) use wired antistatic device.
    2) remember where the screws coming from (take it very serious, you will not remember without taking notes etc.)
    3) take a pictures on where the cables was sitting prior taking it apart.
    4) Be very careful with all connectors and other plastic parts.
    5) prepare CPU and buy also paste like arctic silver (watch a few videos how to apply etc.)
    6) be ready to find something is broken and need to be replaced or fixed with glue/poxy/soldering
    Than it should be easy. :)

    These elitebooks are built like tanks and this teardown shows why: all metal, lots of screws, beefy PCBs for components and peripherals. They make for a lenghty teardown but they're less prone to accidental damage.

    I needed to clean out the fan, which necessitates removing the plastic cover that contains the power button. After watching your video, I realized I needed to remove the capped screws. Voila! Fan is clean and purring now. Thanks!

    What is the screw driver for the star looking screw heads? Name and size would be helpful. All I'm looking forward to is to upgrade the RAM that's under the keyboard, unfortunately, HP got picky on the bottom screws on the 8440 and 8540 lines. I got the laptop that gets up to 8GB. For the other user who claimed 16GB was the max, he could've made a mistake or have other model such 8540p 1.7GZ Quadcore version ; I have that too. Anyways, any help would be much appreciated.

    What sized bit is used for the heat sink screws? Mine seem a little stripped and I have no clue how I am going to get them off... Standard hex sizes don't work. IE. 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5... It is like I need 2.25 hex... And I know for a fact thermal paste will fix my issues... I just can't get it on :(

    Is it possible to switch its NVIDIA NVS 3100M with a GT 720 or GTX 760? I have an 8440p too and I'm thinking of starting a gaming channel. Also is it possible to switch out its CPU and add more RAM?

    • @residentevil5681
      @residentevil5681 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Micah Domine (micahbob091) If you're wanting to go that far, you'd be better off buying/building a desktop. Laptop CPUs are usually soldered to the motherboard, the graphics cards are onboard too. A GTX 760 is a desktop card so it'd never work in a laptop, so as I said, you could build a desktop. And you could add RAM but it wouldn't do much since everything else would be impossible to upgrade.
      I built my own desktop in the space of 2 days after receiving all my parts for under $500. And there's numerous tutorials on how to do so on youtube. You'd be far, far better off doing that and using your laptop for looking up gaming guides or something versus trying to game on.

    • @CORSAIRE_
      @CORSAIRE_ 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I've finally decided to actually get a gaming desktop. I'm going to sell my laptop for $350 on ebay along with my old trumpet for $178 to get enough money for a monitor and a $458 computer.

    • @residentevil5681
      @residentevil5681 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Micah Domine You're welcome, and for all intents and purposes,you should try comparing the specs of the desktop you're getting to the parts and possibly try building it yourself. Less bloatware and mark up for it being preassembled. Also, I used my TV as a monitor, just food for thought.

    • @CORSAIRE_
      @CORSAIRE_ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +residentevil5681 I was thinking, since I also need my laptop for school, and need the mobility, could I use an external graphics card? Does the 8440p have a PCI Express? I was thinking I could prop it up and have a GTX 570Ti or something hooked up underneath when I'm at my desk...

    • @residentevil5681
      @residentevil5681 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Laptops never have a PCI-e card slot. A PC graphics card won't work in a laptop unless you buy an external adapter.

      +Hacks free Juegos ONLINE there are lots of places online where you can buy parts. I would mostly recommend eBay, but from buyer to buyer it can be tricky. Coil whine, it's normal and you can't do much about it. Coating the whiny coil(s) with electronic varnish might help, but not by much. They will still whine, but less audibly. Remember to not coat thermal transfer surfaces.
      I recently repaired one of these laptops that did not have any thermal pads on the CPU/GPU power phases. They whine like crazy as a result of years worth of thermal throttling. The GPU was also missing one thermal pad from the memory chips. It had been like that from the factory. Amazing how much punishment these things can take.

      Bluetooth module is located on the front right side of the laptop, next to the speaker grill.
      One screw to access, check connection and if you just see wires it means you don't have a Bluetooth card and you need to buy one.

    This guy is just taking thing out, he will never be able to put it back together to have it work. He just ripped the keyboard cable out with out opening the little flap. Don't want him working on my laptop.

      +Bill Maverick you should see how certified Dell repair techs leaving a huge gapes between palmrest and case bottom, same goes for Lenovo techs. Not all of them, yes, but some of them who fix laptops under warranty. Believe me, when I work on clients laptops, I am way careful than in this video. This video was made under totally different circumstances. Cheers!

      Some parts threw away, probably were broken before me. (not sure with that laptop since it was a nice elitebook)
      In your profile it is written you are a contributor to Google Buzz. How do you contribute over there?

      I think you are just over-exaggerating a little. 30 years certified tech, ok you did work on thousands of devices, fine. I have a friend who is not certified tech and has been working in the area, especially laptops and similar devices for more than 15 years. He does not even use a drill, just so quickly works with the screwdriver that the laptops are dissembled and assembled back in minutes. Yes he has a degree, but certified repair shops in Europe have some of the most inexperienced workers, who were selling cars before that or s.th else, then were hired for a low pay in the official hp dealer service. If you ask me, I have seen PC parts being thrown around much harder than in this video, and as long as you are careful with the screws, you wont be able to tell this laptop has been opened, if looking on the external. Even without anti static wrist band, I have seen hundreds or thousands of computers worked on and nothing happened. It is possible under some circumstances, but quite unlikely in the most. Of course you need to know what you are doing, so take care and god luck.

      thats the magic phrase "as long as you know what you are doing".i also have worked without wrist band..but its all about proper grounding of your body while working.and yes i laugh at most big name repair shops.this wasn't meant to be a bashing just info for beginners ..i started with a tsr80 in 79 in 9th grade..so much has changed.

      ***** unless you have more than two DIMM slots for the memory, they should be next to each other for ease of access...

      Johnathon Biersack Yes but under the keyboard one is preinstalled,the one on the back is for extra, easier to get to

    • @Terr
      @Terr 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnathon Biersack There is no room for two slots, thats why there is one under the keyboard.
      Besides getting to the one under the keyboard takes an extra minute or so. Just 3 screws and 4 switches
