Good video, couldn't help but laugh at how close he had his face to the camera though😭 reminds me of when my little brother asks "you got games in your phone?"
thanks Casper, Car Audio can be confusing and Wiring intimidating to a novice like myself, but i refuse to throw hundred$ of dollars at Car Toys, i can do it myself with a little help from folks like you. i just bought a 2005 Trailblazer and am undertaking the Audio upgrades now. recently purchased a Dual 12" Bandpass, Four 250 Watt 6.5" door speakers, Four Bullet Tweeters, 8 Farad Capacitor, and a Crossover to go with my Alpine 900 Watt Mono Block amp. the system already Bumps, but i'm going for higher quality sound this time, hence the Crossover (7 Band EQ, etc). i'm hoping the Crossover will boost the output of my mids and highs so i don't have to install a second amp to drive those. i'll find out soon enough. thanks for the video! now if i can just figure out this damn Viper car alarm, it's the hardest to figure out by far.
LOL good luck on the alarm man. I have one that I need hooked up myself but I don't mess with alarms. Glad I could help save ya some bucks and thanks for watching :)
@casperskafs thanks. i shall do that. but lastly, im only worried about overheating the amp or using up my car battery. will that make any difference at all?
Yeah I know .. my question is how do my coaxial speaker play highs and mids and sub play lows with out a separate crossover only using the amplifer built in low pass filter.... do you connect your coaxial speakers to amp or sub or what????
@JohnnyBeeAtch214 The small crossovers don't need a power wire just hook in the wires that it shows and it will just work. Pretty much just for mids and highs
Excellent vid, thinking of hooking up a crossover in my setup. Not sure if I need one tho. Both my amps have built in crossovers, can u let me know what ya think. Thanks!
dude thank you so much!!! this was the most helpfull video ive every watched!!! and thanx for explaining it all as if we dont no shit! some people talk as if you should no...... GREAT vid man!!!! keepem comin!!!
you should make a video or let me know how to tune it, the crossovers designed for mid and high speakers also so what should they be set at and what all the other controls should be set at.
Because its best to hook up subs to a mono block amp. It automatically filters out mids and highs. Then on your mids and highs I say its best to use a 4 channel because you can set them up for mids and highs so it blocks out bass and things. For example my 4 channel has a setting that says High Mid Low. You just set the switch to what you are doing and it filters. On a 4 channle you can use 2 channels for mid and use that filter then the other 2 channels you can set for highs
That's an active crossover that you have, and there passive crossover which look like capacitor or coil hook up on speaker to roadblock unwanted frequency entering the speaker.
I just bought an MTX single 10" pre amp 300 watt subwofer...I have currently instatlled two MTX 8" high tone speakers and they are ampd with a 120 Watt.. All in the trunk of a classic Mustang. My question is two fold. 1. Can I split the remote wire coming from the radio, to both amps? (If not what's the best set up for the remote). 2. Should I have the gain maxed out on the sub amp and use a crossover to adjust accordingly?
@robertrhl Yes completely normal. What your hearing is distortion. When you get to loud for your sub and amp to handle it starts to sound bad because its getting distorted which means if you keep going that loud bad things will happen.
Watching your videos was kind of easy to get myself hooked up with the basic distributor block amplifier and whatnot but I have a Alpine amplifier on a comes with 2 #20 fuse is and I'm not sure how to hook up the remote to the fuse box do I need to get a 40 fuse or just where the lighter fuse is directly I'm not sure can you help me out there
Ive just got some new component speakers with passive crossovers, im a bit confused with the setup. At the moment my speakers run from the woofer/tweeter directly to the headunit. When I add a crossover, do i just connect the current speaker wires going to the headunit to the crossover instead of the headunit? And do I need new speaker wire to connect my crossover to the headunit, and if so what input does the crossover go into on the headunit, so I know what connection or adapter I need to put on the end of the wire
@210hammon You'd probably be fine without one. I'm not sure how much better a crossover would make it. My amps all have crossovers on them too but my crossover just makes it more simple to adjust cause all the knobs are on the top and easy to see. Plus I have a little girl so with this crossover I can just pop my trunk and turn down my subwoofer ( My sub amp doesn't have a bass knob).
I have some other type of crossovers , that they dont need power for them like positive & negative . so what can i do to connect a amp and crossovers for the mids & highs ?
i got a few questions im running 2 15 inch L7 kickers with 6000 pt amp and a 1000 watts to my highs....my highs sound ok will you recommend me put a crossover to increase bass and highs and also whats the benefit of using a crossover and a eq please explain i would appreciate your help
Is the crossover in this vid an active crossover? I have little crossovers that don't need a power supply - are those passive crossovers? I'm having a hard time remembering which is which. So the small crossovers go IN BETWEEN the amp and the speaker, right?
Hi Sir. Thank you so much for posting the video. Please advise. I can't get my subwoofer to produce 20Hz bass; it still has punchy bass, which I don't want. Should I use an aftermarket cross over like "boss" to get the 20Hz wavy bass? I have a 12 inch, 2000watt Pioneer sub in ported box (responsive to 20Hz) with a dedicated Pioneer mono block 1000Hz amp in my car. The remaining midranges and tweeters each have their own 6 channel pioneer amplifier. Finally, I have a graphic equalizer. Please advise, sir, if I should get a cross over I, and tune it to 20zHz ? I have tried using several graphic equalizers, but none of them had a 20Hz bass knob to enable this kind of bas.s P lease advise, Thanks.
any help is appreciated on all the parts I need to hook up 1 amp with a sub and change all my door speakers and connect to an another amp while keeping factory head unit? I want it to sound clean as possible. any recommendation on door speakers and a good 4 channel amp too. crossover eq hi lo inverter sound processor?? do I need this to get the best sound? Thanks
Imran Khan The brands are up to you. I can't tell you what to buy because that is my opinion. I run pretty much all Db Drive and love it. If you just want good sound just get yourself a mono amp and sub then a good 4 channel and door speakers and it will sound good if done right
i have a 2channel amp for my 12" sub. im not much into car audio but i play a lot of musical instruments and i want to hear more bass line/riffs (not too much bass drum) from my ska and reggae music in my car stereo. like, i get great sound coming from my hip hop and rap music already but i wanna get more out of my midbass or whatever you call it for again, those bass riffs in ska and reggae music. SO should i hook up another amp, crossover, or epicenter?????? thanks!!!!
wow what are the odds that i have the same exact crossover as you and I want to hoop it up. is there a reason it looks like you have 2 wires for your ground and 2 for remote?
You cannot have a sq system without a crossover and eq. And the best in the world is audiocontrol grab one or both of them and you will see a world of difference in sound ,i have 3 audiocontrol units hooked up I have a 24xs ,a epicenter digital, and the new ac eq and its amazing
Hey I have the same exact MTX Crossover and another MTX Crossover just like it.... Its been sitting in my room for 2 years... I WANT TO KNOW: what is the purpose of this specific crossover? Does it put out additional watts to my sub? I Already have a 200 Watt Equalizer that i use only to my sub and sounds great compared to the radio's sub output. I also have 2- 400 watt tweeters that also sound great and are mounted by the visors on the door frames and are connected to my front door speakers
When is it nessasary to use a crossover I have a brand new amp I just got in 2021 new model andi found my old crossover someone gave me when I was younger and I never got around to using it since I wasn't sure what the point of it was could you please explain when and or if it's nessasary to use one please it's a rockwood detonator xr5 3-way multichannel crossover
Okay.. I need some help.. please.. Im trying to make a backpack that has a stereo in it.. I already have a Toppings Mini Amp.. and I have a rockford fosgate 10' sub in it at the lower location.. I want to put a Mid bass speaker in it and a tweeter.. How could I do that.. I'm thinking a Passive Crossover.. Can someone help me find a really simple crossover or tell me how I could do this without running the mid and tweeter in a series.. I would love you forever if someone could help.. the amps being powered off a laptop battery.. I get a good 7 hour charge.. thanks
Great video! I have a question and wanted to see if someone could help (new to installing car speakers). I want to upgrade my 2008 accord speakers and just bought polk audio dxi 6500 speakers... do I have to install the crossover? I dont have an amp
Will adding a crossover help an amp play lows? I have a skar rp 2k that has loads of power but absolutely horrible sound quality on anything lower than 35hz. I have a old 1000 watt kicker that plays lows 10x better than this skar amp on half the power.
When tuning do you keep the amplifier at the setting your originally had it and then adjust the crossover ? Or do you adjust the crossover and then touch the settings on amp ?
@casperskafs Yea, one for my subs and one for my highs. Both have built in crossovers in the amps. Didn't know if the"amp crossovers" would be enough to separate all the frequencies, fully. Thanks!
im only hearing bass notes from my speaker,do i need a second amplifier or my crossover is not good? it does not play hi notes only if i plug it into high frequency
@crackerwp if u have one amp for each sub connect one amp to the crossover low output and then link the second amp to the one that is connected to the crossover.
can u please help....i have 4 12s hooked up to a 1500 watt crunch and a 800 watt amp for my highs and have a crossover...the problem is that when i go pass a certain volume my amps turn off and goes into protect mode...WHAT IS THE PROBLEM, I TRIED EVERYTHING I COULD TO FIX IT BUT ITS STILL NOT WORKING!!!
@sk8rkid135 Hmm can't member that model number. Its a mtx and you won't find it new because this one is pretty old. Just find a diff crossover they make lots of diff kinds

12 years later and this video is still helping people thank you 🙏🏽
Good video, couldn't help but laugh at how close he had his face to the camera though😭 reminds me of when my little brother asks "you got games in your phone?"
LOL sorry man

Thanks for the video, haven't hooked up subs in a long while. Watched this for a refresher before a started.
All is working well now.
Thanks
Carlos Finch AWESOME!!! Thanks for watching
what if you have 2 amplifiers which amp would you hook it up 2 and how would you know if its controlling the fullcar audio
ThAnk you.
That's what I needed to know.
Great video man. Im sorry to hear that someone broke into your car. Them bastards
Thanks bro you put up information that I can understand in all your video
Great Job Brother Thank You so much for your help. Very straight forward and to the point 👍👍😻👍
Yeah I know ..
my question is how do my coaxial speaker play highs and mids and sub play lows with out a separate crossover only using the amplifer built in low pass filter....
do you connect your coaxial speakers to amp or sub or what????
Awesome video man continue your great work ! 👍
Thank You!!
You can but on one like this you will need rca splitters to make 2 sets coming from your headunit to your crossover
Thanks!
Funny I was up watching your 1am video at 1am. Lol
That is weird :)
dude thank you so much!!! this was the most helpfull video ive every watched!!! and thanx for explaining it all as if we dont no shit! some people talk as if you should no...... GREAT vid man!!!! keepem comin!!!
you should make a video or let me know how to tune it, the crossovers designed for mid and high speakers also so what should they be set at and what all the other controls should be set at.
@doza146 kinda yea it does filter your speakers but has a bass boost knob and a HZ knob and a button to make them parallel.
I got it now thanks I will have lots more questions because I just made my first real stereo and 5 amp and need some help
@iballen93 I think I had it hooked up to a fan. Thats why the extra wires. Pretty weird you have the same crossover
Sounds like you have a constant power source going into your remote so its keeping power instead of shutting off.
what if there is a hum thruw the subs when you hook up the cross over but not wen you hook it striaght up
Because its best to hook up subs to a mono block amp. It automatically filters out mids and highs. @crackerwp You just need one crossover. It helps your tweek your mids and subs seperatly.
Thanx you helped me out a lot and don't you hook the a\v cord running from the crossover in the back of the radio ?
That's an active crossover that you have, and there passive crossover which look like capacitor or coil hook up on speaker to roadblock unwanted frequency entering the speaker.
hi I have a crossover that I want to hook up while runing 2 amps it's a little old and I'm a little confused on how to hook it up

Very Informative Vid...Gotta Love the guy !!!

what is the name of this crossover? I need it! I've been looking for an RCA crossover forever. Model number or something, thanks.
eq and crossover together makes the sound cleaner.....run the eq to the crossover and enjoy
Good ole Boy!!! Yea come on !!
@210hammon Do you have a amp for highs and amp for lows?
quick question, from the theres one wire for the power splive but it looks like theres 2 for grounding and 2 for remote, is this correct?
its 1 am while im watching this
Ive just got some new component speakers with passive crossovers, im a bit confused with the setup. At the moment my speakers run from the woofer/tweeter directly to the headunit. I feel you bro no worries good lookin on your vids...it helps people out.
Sorry so long to answer. If you get multiple amps then you can use rca splitters. You only need one amp though if you are just running subs
So what a crossover does is just give you more control basically?
Can u also connect the remote, ground and the 12v to the stereo??? Or is it better using the amp?
I have some other type of crossovers , that they dont need power for them like positive & negative . so what can i do to connect a amp and crossovers for the mids & highs ?

The RCA that u connected to the crossover you connect to the radio at the end ?
No to amp after crossover
Not really sure. Kinda depends what you have and what you like to hear. I just turn the knobs and listen
crossover fine tunes it more and filters it better
@crackerwp use a Y-adapter in order for you to connect 2 amps in your case get 2 Y-adapters :)
i have a 2channel amp for my 12" sub.
im not much into car audio but i play a lot of musical instruments and i want to hear more bass line/riffs (not too much bass drum) from my ska and reggae music in my car stereo. like, i get great sound coming from my hip hop and rap music already but i wanna get more out of my midbass or whatever you call it for again, those bass riffs in ska and reggae music. @countryboyG Yea its kinda the same cept I would get the eq before a crossover cause you can do more most of the time unless you get a crappy eq
Okay.. I need some help.. please.. Im trying to make a backpack that has a stereo in it.. I already have a Toppings Mini Amp.. and I have a rockford fosgate 10' sub in it at the lower location.. I got a question there bud. Does the crossover over ride the amp knobs or am i suppose to set them a certain way
yo i swear you have the same voice as towmatta from cars lmfao but great vids
@rome14able you gonna need a amp tht puts out at lest 3500 watts rms. that amp prolly is prolly about 900 rms true watts
this is a good vidio bro for all the do it your selfers
Great video! I have a question and wanted to see if someone could help (new to installing car speakers). I want to upgrade my 2008 accord speakers and just bought polk audio dxi 6500 speakers... do I have to install the crossover? I dont have an amp
On my amp the remote is like a plug in how do I get my two remotes in a plug in?
What happens if we have more than one amp can we put 2 or 3 remote wires into the crossover?
i'm new into car audio, but what does the crossover does for a sound system??
how about a equalizer/crossover combo, does boost the sound and make it loud?.... I'm new on this subject

Did It Help The Mids Sound Louder ?
would on of these be good if i wanted to run a sub and a pair of 6x9s on one amp?
Question I have a 4 channel amp for everything can I add a cross over to it?
pretty simple indeed....thx man!
@UrNemesis5366 Glad I could help thank for watching :)
@casperskafs Yea, one for my subs and one for my highs. Both have built in crossovers in the amps. Didn't know if the"amp crossovers" would be enough to separate all the frequencies, fully. Thanks!

@racecar1234100 I loved that amp. Never had a problem
Great video
Not sure as of right now. People seem to love a clarion EQ. Can't member the damn model number atm
Do I wire it to my sub amp or my highs amp
@crackerwp if u have one amp for each sub connect one amp to the crossover low output and then link the second amp to the one that is connected to the crossover.
what causes an eq to give major feedback cus i have an in-dash eq and its giving me major feedback through out my highs and bass. help....
@stormywormie I always forget which is active crossovers and which is passive. but yea the small ones go in between your amp and speaker
@casperskafs Oh alright bro , and when your connecting the second amp do you run wires for the mids and connect it to the amp or with rca's ?
Hey there I hav a coiled cross over like you put into a speaker no rc plugs
Like crossovers that come with component sets?
what hz should i set the crossover for low mids & highs?
I HAVE TO KICKER L7s 12" kicker cs 6x9 & 6 1/2 doors speakers witha 3000w powerbass amp whats the best crossover & equalizer i can get????
my car DCA has 2 channel out or optional coax or optional optical output. how do i hook it up to a crossover because it has 6 channel
can u please help....i have 4 12s hooked up to a 1500 watt crunch and a 800 watt amp for my highs and have a crossover...the problem is that when i go pass a certain volume my amps turn off and goes into protect mode...WHAT IS THE PROBLEM, I TRIED EVERYTHING I COULD TO FIX IT BUT ITS STILL NOT WORKING!!!
Thanks man. Thats what I try for
I have 2amps 1crossover with a 2amps hook up... my head unit have just one output, how do i get the other amp hook..?
@sk8rkid135 Hmm can't member that model number. Its a mtx and you won't find it new because this one is pretty old. Just find a diff crossover they make lots of diff kinds
Lets say i have a Mono amp 1 channel with 1 subwoofer ....
The amp has low passfilter okk......how do my componnent speakers know when to play mids and sub to play lows....... how do i connect to the component speaker to amp so it sends signal??????
.......or do i need to buy a crossover for that .......if so whats the point of amp having a low pass filter if i need crossover ???
Yea nice lil amp for sure
