It’s more probably the perspective of the camera. Then they just farted away the bed room. They do the same thing on stage but it doesn’t look as smooth because of perspective.
Maddie Baillio will always be my favorite Tracy Turnblad. Her voice is cute and bright, and her acting perfectly encapsulates everything Tracy stands for. (Not to mention she's absolutely beautiful!)
I love how they have the "divine pet food" next to a pink flamingo. It's a good nod to the fact that John Waters, who also made a movie called "pink flamingos" created Hairspray. Edna, Tracy's mom, was played by a drag queen named "Divine" in the original movie from 1988 and they were often casted in Waters movies. They were also in "pink flamingos".
maybe this was just filmed in an area where it's dark in the morning in winter? like, where i live(which is Canada so not the same but still) during winter when driving to school in the morning it's way darker than in the morning
This will go down as an all time favorite memory when I went to watch the entire thing live as member of the audience during “You Can’t Stop the Beat” and The Corny Collins Show. Then that same year my high school show-choir did the Hairspray Live medley for our competition in Orlando and I can’t remember if we got first or second place but still on of the cool things I’ve seen/done
Just clarifying that I am the only one who gets reminded of Christmas when I listen to this song like think about it this would make a great christmas song with a few lyric changes haha
Can y’all please repost the full show? I need full musicals in my life including the full NBC live musical specials. Just please put them up and leave them up. Thank you.
Yes please! Any clip and I am happy!! Notes, angel of music, wandering child, down once more, all I ask of you, think of me, Hannibal, the auction, lot 666, overture you get the point
There are some references in those store signs. Of course you have the Divine and Pink Flamingos reference. Water's Plumbing is for John Waters the creator of Hairspray. And there are other references too. Also, as a Baltimore native, I can't say I ever seen a mountain in the city. And if you know about Divine, that store sign is an extra gross reference which I will not mention here. It's a pretty clever joke. Haha.
I loved Hairspray Live, my only complaint is the lighting in some scenes is really bad. And no wetting the street did not help make it look lighter lol
This was broadcast live on the NBC television network on December 7, 2016 from Universal Studios in Los Angeles. It was dark outside at that time--8 pm or so--and other scenes were produced on sound stages using artificial light.
There's a lot of easter eggs in this song so let me just break it down for you guys. In the first shot of the town there is a plumbing company called "Waters Plumbing" which is a easter egg for "John Waters". Theres a place that sells Crabs called "Baltimore Crabs" which is the title where Velma wins aka. "Miss Baltimore Crabs". Theres a pet food shop called Divine Pet Food which is a easter egg for one of the actors of the Original Hairspray aka. Divine who plays Edna in the Original 1988 Hairspray and there is a Pink Flamingo next to it which is another easter egg for the other movie for "Pink Flamingos" which is another movie that Divine Starred in.
Many professional showings of Hairspray have the actress on a platform with the duvet stitched to it. In this case, it's a collapsible backdrop and she's holding the duvet. This production cost thousands of dollars so I wouldn't put it past the folks at NBC to do something like this
What's your favourite opening number in a musical?
CATS- Jellicle Songs, HAIR(Movie opening Song and scene Aquarius), West Side Story(Movie Prologue), The greatest Showman(Movie Song The greatest Show)
I like somewhere over the rainbow from the Wizard of oz
My favourite is think of me from the phantom of the opera
Hamilton
Please, let us Rent or buy this version!!! (Por favor, deixa a gente alugar ou comprar essa versão do musical!!!).
When I first saw this I was so shocked with the transition between the bed and dancing on the street lol. Great prop design!!
If you look closely at the beginning you can see that the shot of her in the window is a picture
the stand up bed is common in almost every theater production of hairspray.
samedt💀😂
It’s more probably the perspective of the camera. Then they just farted away the bed room. They do the same thing on stage but it doesn’t look as smooth because of perspective.
@@HarmonyLaskoCoolChicVids14 OMG, IT IS!
To whoever is reading this I hope you are staying safe and having an amazing morning, night, or evening
You too, Ava B.
Ava B. Sending good vibes to you as well
The same to you as well
And too you from me
You too, Ava! 💗
I love how the music and Maddie’s voice makes it sound like this was actually made in the 60’s
The music in Hairspray is that rare Broadway score where you can’t help but love at least almost every song
Maddie Baillio will always be my favorite Tracy Turnblad. Her voice is cute and bright, and her acting perfectly encapsulates everything Tracy stands for. (Not to mention she's absolutely beautiful!)
Ikr! She's an angel!
Love Ariana as penny pingelton
Indeed she is. Aside from this scene, she also nailed it on the "Mama I'm a Big Girl Now" song together with Ariana and Dove...
❤
"mama, im a big girl now" "without love" "come so far" PLEASE
YES
I can hear the bells
they did them
❤
I love how they have the "divine pet food" next to a pink flamingo. It's a good nod to the fact that John Waters, who also made a movie called "pink flamingos" created Hairspray. Edna, Tracy's mom, was played by a drag queen named "Divine" in the original movie from 1988 and they were often casted in Waters movies. They were also in "pink flamingos".
And don't forget the "Waters Plumbing" sign! I love all the little shoutouts to the original movie in this set design.
Maddie does a great job of playing Tracy. She’s got the voice and energy I want from Tracy.
This I disagree-
I’ll let you.
Such a fun song... And her voice... Perfection for this.
It always catches me off guard with the flasher part I can never help but laugh 😂
She almost died how many times? And she still finished the song! Now that's charisma! Those are some dangerous streets, peeps!
her friends *wasted* hairspray
Did we bully them into posting another video?
Even if we did I'm glad its hairspray lol
No, they said they would be uploading clips but not entire musicals for a while, so that's what they are doing
Can we bully them into taking the Hairspray videos down?!?! This whole production was just awful and should be forgotten!
@@anthonylawson518 please calm down.
@@cowpriestess7931 I'm not worked up....why do I need to calm down...how about you just hush! 😁
This song is my therapy, happy pill. Every time, when i feel anxious, sad, and almost resulting into depression, I'll just listen to this song. ❤️❤️❤️
GOOD MORNING CARONAAAAAAA!
HAHA!!! NICE 😂
Why is she walking to school in the middle of the night? 😂
Maybe it’s 4am
It can be super early in the morning. It originally aired in December 2016
maybe this was just filmed in an area where it's dark in the morning in winter? like, where i live(which is Canada so not the same but still) during winter when driving to school in the morning it's way darker than in the morning
Well they were shooting live and it aired at night, they were using full studio lots so that's why its dark
Maybe classes start at 6am?
I wish you show the whole musical again, I missed it 😕
I fell asleep watching it and I’m so sad
Leave it to Tracy to get the least creepy flasher, ever.
FR
Since you did a community poll on hairspray, please do one for phantom of the opera
No. This is Baltimore, not Paris.
I love how her voice goes higher when she says rats. 🤣🤣 This song is the best!
MORATA
The “I’m ready to go” part gives me chills every time. 😭👌
Can you guys do “Mama I’m a Big Girl Now” please?
update: they did
@@sofiaherzu3106 Yay!!!
maddie is definitely my favorite tracy. she does the character so well!!!
One of the best musical theatre songs but also the one you see at every audition you go too!
Hairspray was one of my first musical obsessions!
good morning Baltimore!

I love Tracy’s voice 💚💚💚💚💚
Loved this Live broadcast. They did a great job. Even enjoyed all the cameos and visual Easter Eggs from previous productions and the original movie.
she looks like a doll.

Every time I see the guy in the car at 1:07 I keep thinking it's Walt Disney!
Just clarifying that I am the only one who gets reminded of Christmas when I listen to this song like think about it this would make a great christmas song with a few lyric changes haha
0:35 "Good morning, Baltimore..."
Ah, what a Kickstart for an awesome day...
Her performance was perfect!
Not everyone will agree with me when I say this was THE best Hairspray! Maddie is a shining star as Tracy

Divine/ Pink Flamingo shout out in there! 🤩🤩
omg I watched this whole show, and only watching this clip now do I get the Divine reference @2:24, lol!
Fineblatt too.
This Hairspray production was simply spectacular🤩👌
Just reminds me of when I was in my high school production of this, was a background dancer- but I enjoyed every minute of it.
Can y’all please repost the full show? I need full musicals in my life including the full NBC live musical specials. Just please put them up and leave them up. Thank you.
I'll admit I've never been a fan of hairspray but I gotta appreciate it on an artistic level
I’m not a huge fan but something I respect for its story and music
Great job Maddie!
Pls make this possible here in the Philippines! 😍💖

So nice to have a 'Divine' (original
Tracy is night owl party animal
the vibe is rlly different at night vs in the morning
good different
I loved Hairspray Live, my only complaint is the lighting in some scenes is really bad. And no wetting the street did not help make it look lighter lol
I live in Baltimore maryland and and the street she's walking along looks like Calvert street. I'm not exactly sure.
I think it was a replica of Calvert street
@@mermaidklc1390 Well yeah that's what I meant 😅
why aren't they posting the musicals every friday anymore??

From the thumbnail I honestly thought this was Comedy skit like Mad TV I guess I was wrong. I love this musical even though I only saw the movie
Her: good morning baltimoreeee

Still wondering how the bed scene at the beginning works.
