    Best discussion on this I've seen. Was flying with a friend a few days back and we got talking about this. I mentioned your last video and it got me thinking, so I made a change, (was running Airmode as a feature).
    Since I like horizon for when I go LOS to walk a quad home or such, so I set a 3 pos switch as such - up=Horizon/Air mid=Acro/Air and dn = Acro. This way I can always pull the switch down to land, skid or "Bonk" (although I don't fly many places where Skid and bonk are possible).
    FWIW - I idle most of my machines @ 4.5%, but that's a lot on 6" or on high KV setups, so those are usually lower.
    Thanks, Keep up the 'tech and how it effects your flying' theme, I like it!

    I noticed after my first flight with airmode besides the obvious, is that it's very zippy. At mid to low throttle my quad is much more reactive. So glad I found this video and tried it. It's has so much better control. I'm limited to the front yard on the week days so lots of lower throttle flying. It's almost a must to fly with. Now I just have to learn how to disarm really fast when I crash. That's my only concern. Even on a switch one must be fast to avoid burning up equipment. Thanks for your excellent video

    great vid thanks.
    I had this curve set on AMRing switch combination AND not a dedicated swtich. Of course quad would not arm due to THROTTLE warning flag raised (BF 4.2) :)
    So I added anoter Logical switch (which there are plenty) with ARM switch combination and a delay of 0.1 sec and now I dont need to use two switches for ARMING and IDLE UP but just one switch.

    I recently set up idle up on my quad and will test it against airmode. In butterflight, I changed following parameters: set min_command = 1060 (was 1000 by default), set min_throttle = 1050 (was 1070 by default) and set pid_at_min_throttle = OFF (was ON by default). On top of that, I added an override throttle Channel switch with val=-100 in my taranis and set min microsecond to 1068 on throttle Channel output.

    5% is pretty low, I can't get a stable pid controller at 5% but at 8% things become manageable,. At 10-12% it becomes indistinguishable to Airmode but has some definitive thrust inverted and in dives. At 8% I can still tell a very minor difference but really appreciate the reliability in contact tricks and accidental clips.

    This question is not about airmode or idle up, but I hope it is okey. In the dvr I we can see the rssi. Is that something you can set with spektrum reciver or are you useing crossfire on this quad? If it is a spektrum reciver, how can I set that up?
    I realy like this two videos about airmode and idle up. I am new to this hobby and this was a good explanation.

    How do you not get de-sync running idle that low????

    • @TERBANGFPV
      @TERBANGFPV 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tune-in' FPV because he already set minimum throttle to 1050 when activate the idle up switch. So the 1,5% idle is only before idle up switch and airmode are active.

  • @sjoervanderploeg4340
    @sjoervanderploeg4340 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Errr air mode simply enables the PID loop at no/low throttle, idle up only spins up the motors at low speed.

  • @psyborgfpv9714
    @psyborgfpv9714 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Drew.. there is still an issue with what you are calling idle up here. Back in my heli days idle up meant setting a steady motor speed that kept the helis head speed at a certain rpm no matter what else you were doing. This gives great authority for 3d heli flights. What you are doing on your quad is only putting min throttle command on a switch and not actually idling up to a stable rpm.
    Most set ups use min command at 1000 and then min throttle is set to the lowest point at which all four motors spin smoothly. Then the choice is made to use motor stop which does not let the motors spin when armed or to not use motor stop and have the props always spin at that min throttle setting when the quad is armed and the throttle is at its lowest position.
    Do you set your quads up differently then that to achieve what you are calling idle up?

    • @drib2896
      @drib2896  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I set up my quads exactly as explained in this video.

    • @stickboyfpv4742
      @stickboyfpv4742 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah everything you said except... his arm, motors spinning at like 1020 and pid loop inactive... then flip the, "idle up switch" to spin the props up faster, and air mode disabled. So you can sliiide and bonnk!

    Only handles drones, very short coming. Idle up on a 3D helicopter means full throttle but 0 degree pitch on the middle stand of your throttle gauge, up is positive pitch, down is negative pitch. This is how we are able to fly upside down. Air Mode is non existent on 3D helicopters. We have normal mode where the pitch is fixed and you control throttle, in this mode 3D flight is not possible.
