    This was absolutely wonderful. I love how Abbott Tryphon illustrates spiritual truths with vivid and at times humorous stories. I enjoyed every minute and was sad when it was over! I feel very challenged by his words. Thanks for making this available on TH-cam.

    Thank you Father. I am Catholic but your speech inspires me to be a better Christian. We must love all, we do not condone the sin but help the person as a spiritual father; we must not exclude them. We are Jesus to others.

    Father, I was stationed at Ft. Lewis from 2014-2018 and I always intended to visit you on Vashon. I never did, and it is one of my biggest regrets. I hope that I get the chance to go back to the Puget Sound and visit the monastery.

      Yes, angel comes from the Greek word 'ΑΓΓΕΛΟΣ' (pronounced 'agelos') and literally means messenger.

    I would love to see Father Tryphon in quiet discussion with people from other faiths, for example with Pir Zia Inayat-Khan of the Golden Sufi centre (also in California) - this kind of thing can be an interesting project, what do you think?

    I miss Abbot Tryphon being in the Daily Bread section of AFR. I used to listen to him before the relatively dry reading of the daily scripture to prep my heart with love to be more receptive.

    I like this man but fine it hear to call him father like minister as fell you should call I man father but God

    • @thekingofsomewhere
      @thekingofsomewhere 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A lot of people take that "call no man father" out of context.
      For example, Paul calls himself a father to the church of Corinth, in 1 Corinthians 4:15. Peter calls Mark his "son", and Paul does the same with Timothy. The Israelites (and even Christians) call Abraham "father".
      And even if we ignore these examples from Scripture, many of the people who point to that verse also call their dads their "father".
      I think if one examines what Jesus is talking about in the context, He's not saying to literally call nobody a "father", even if they are.

    Interesting how we all see things differently. I see this man in all his religious garb and i just can't take him seriously. To each his own, though. I think to myself, if Jesus or religion were true or universal there would be no need for all this religious garb...just seems like nothing but empty religion and tradition.

      You might find it interesting if you were to study the use of the word tradition in the New Testament. There are traditions of men but there are also traditions God has give us to preserve, we call them Holy Traditions.

    • @2growdaily181
      @2growdaily181 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stbarnabasorthodoxchurchof154 That's a tough one. In the time of Jesus the religious leaders of those days had a lot of what they thought were "Holy Traditions" that they had received from their early fathers and Rabbis. Jesus was not at all impressed by them and cut through all that. Being that I do not come from high church background have several honest questions. What are Holy Traditions? What is the criteria to differentiate between traditions of men and Holy Traditions? Are those Holy Traditions necessary for salvation?

    • @stbarnabasorthodoxchurchof154
      @stbarnabasorthodoxchurchof154  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Here are a couple of examples: 2 Thessalonians 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle. 2 Timothy 2:2 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. This has the tradition of the Orthodox church. Maintaining all that was taught by the Apostles both written and spoken. Ignoring the oral traditions is as problematic as ignoring the teaching of scripture. There is a lot written on this. The Orthodox have been extremely careful to preserve both the oral and written traditions of the Church. That is why the services look so ancient, they are.

      Your argument boils down to “I don’t like his clothes”.
      Real men don’t concern themselves with the fashion of others. How simpleminded.

    • @2growdaily181
      @2growdaily181 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DysmasTheGoodThief As I said real religion and truth don't require pomp and fancy attire. As a matter of fact, it seems that Jesus, in regard to religion, spoke against showy exterior stuff, didn't he?
