That’s my blended set too, I love them. I recently swapped out the ZX5 4 iron for the ZX4 4 iron, whivh is more like a 3 iron, which I use of the tee on tight fairways. It is very clear Srixon designed three entire lineup to be blended, they do a great job. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do mine!
I built a very nice blended set with the New Maltby TS3 / TS4s. Best clubs Ive ever played. Would love to see a review on the TS3 and TS4 as the TS3 is one of the best feeling forged iron I ever hit and so easy to hit.
Static vs Delivered loft combined with Multi-Piece construction head vs One Piece Forging are other factors so this is so important when gapping a mixed set. Great content as always !!!
I’m a lefty and use: Driver TM SIM2 Max D at 11.5*, 3w TM SIM2 Max 16.5*HL, 7w TM SIM2 Max 21*, 9w Ping G425 25*, Ping 6H/7H at 30/34, Miura CB801 7i/8i 36/40, Miura TB901 9i/PW 44/48, Miura LH wedge series 52/56/60 and armlock ping Sydney. It’s my dream set up and something I see myself using for the next 15 years
Great video. Srixon zx5&7 are the best in look for a blended set, but couldn't feel more different. They really need to fix that zx5 and loose the plastic piece.
Thank you for the video. The timing is perfect. I have ZX7 7-PW and ZX5 5-6 with ProjectX 6.5 coming this week. I will book some sim time to conduct a yardage check similar to yours.
Mizuno had the right idea with their iron replacement/hybrids. Same shaft length and distance as the iron that was to be replaced. I have 921 fli-hi 4,5,6 and 7 "hybrid" which blend seamlessly with my jpx 921 hot metal 8,9, pw and gap wedge. Great thinking.
For a average golfer, not worried about distance, is it better to lose the bounce on the short clubs (de-lofting) vs gaining bounce (adding Loft) on the clubs when you changing the lofts on blending a set ? I'm more sweeper than a digger swing.
I won't blend anything if i have to strengthen or weaken the lofts by +/-1° because of bounce. I also won't blend a hollow with a cavity back or muscle back. So when i went to the ZX7 MKII i got 7-P and a ZX5 MKII in a 6i. Everything turned out just as it did in your video. Srixon and Titleist really have the best iron combos for blending this year.
Great Video. Still not sure why you are gapping the carry distance instead of the total distance? It would only help if youre playing soft greens and faiways?
From my experience with the CGQuad, the carry distance gives very comparable numbers to what golfers see on course. The total distance on the virtual range always gives at least 8-10 yards of roll out which usually isn't the case unless you are playing brand new greens.
Great video. Those irons look incredible. I did exactly what you did in the first gen ZX5 5 and 6 iron, 1 weak. Do you find the ZX5 mk ii loud/harsh at all? I have 5-PW in the ZX7 mk ii and am contemplating the ZX5 in the 5 and 6.
Can you talk a little bit about frequency matching shafts. For instance, if I hit my 6 iron better than any of my other irons and that iron’s frequency is say 320, why not make all my iron shafts with the same frequency?
You would need to isolate the variables before I would be convinced it was the frequency that is making that the best club. Could just as likely be length, swing weight, static weight, or just appearance that leads to better results. Easy way to test would be to take one of the clubs you hit poorly and apply that frequency and see what happens.
@@EFGMC what if you make all of the clubs that length as well. I am a pga life member and have a friend who played 6 years on the European senior tour and he tells me that all of his irons are at 304 frequencies. I guess that I’m wondering your thoughts. Have you ever assembled a set with matching frequencies?
@@2putts2win Not surprising. You only really find staunch advocates of frequency matching in older generation golfers. I know a few people still do it but I think most have abandoned the process. Personally I think buying a freq meter for golf at this point is a waste. I focus on weight, length and balance as what I find matters for consistency in a set. I don't think having a shaft that butt frequencies 4 cpm off is really going to matter. The shaft only flexes and releases once in a golf swing before ball contact so the difference between 304 and 298 is trivial to my mind.
Good video as usual, AJ. Quick question, why did you replace your Tokomo irons for Srixon. I know Srixon is an excellent brand, just curious of the switch. Cheers.
Actually I had replaced the Takomos with the Sub70 659 CB/MB but those were just too penal for me. These are replacing those. The Takomos I actually lost 2 clubs from the set so that sort of forced my hand on the original change.
I've been toying with the idea of cutting my 4 iron and 5 iron down to the length of my 6 iron to make a set with a mix of traditional length and 1 length shafts. I'd have to offset the lost length with lead tape to compensate for the lighter head weights of the 4 and 5, but do you think it would affect the lie angles at all? 🤔
I installed PX 6.0 but the Modus 120 was in contention. I probably should have also tired the X flex in the 120 as that would have been a good fit also for me.
Any issues with the 5* gaps in the short irons? I just got a ZX7/ZX5 blended set and may start with the ZX5’s one degree weaker than the ZX7 equivalent. I keep hearing that the ZX5’s are 5 or so yards longer even at the same loft.
Hi AJ Can you answer a question… new to club making… I bought some shafts that I are noted as 65 gram They all weigh in at 83/84 uncut Is that normal It
Some shafts will refer to a finished weight in the name, some will refer to a raw weight, and some don't do either. Also different flexes will have different weights. That said, 84 is pretty far off from 65.
Liked the last set, like the new set too. Srixon makes great irons, extremely under rated. Best way to hide a treasure ... In plain sight.
Adam my dude, once again you have answered the question behind my thought's today, 07/08/24. Which is all about Iron combos. You're the man!

Your Driver will probably break at some point.

Brilliant clip, were thinking of that combination of mixed irons for my next set, thanks again.
Interesting demo and timely for me as I am planning to purchase a new set of sticks in the next few weeks and blend them. .
Got a blended set like yours. Only difference is I am getting the shafts pured. Hopefully it helps with it.
I have the older ZX5 & 7’s and actually use two 6 irons @ the transition. For me, the ZX5 is about 10-12 yds longer & filled my gap perfect
Thank you for the video. The timing is perfect. I have ZX7 7-PW and ZX5 5-6 with ProjectX 6.5 coming this week. I will book some sim time to conduct a yardage check similar to yours.
Awesome. Love the clubs. Would love to build clubs for a living.

Those Fli Hi's are so nice and easy to hit.
Sweet build and great explanation as always.

More bounce is almost always better for rec golfers but it's less of an issues with shorter clubs.
This is exactly set I’m looking for, zx5 and zx7 irons, would be great if you’re in my area, Great information nonetheless.
Got zx5 a d zx4s and use two seven irons for lofts
Awesome. Was looking at this exact blend option...hmmm. Might just stick to one type if the feel is different and I won't be building it myself

Adjusting loft is fine , 1 degree will change the bounce less than half a degree. On irons the bounce is gone , because of shaft lean.
Yessss, thank you so much for this video
Great Video.

How do your old rusty ones look now? Are they super patina'd or same?
Should all iron heads be exactly 7g increments or is it between this number and that number
What made you decide your split was between 9 and ? And do you think a blend could be done as effectively with the ZX5 and ZX4S?
Is it a "safer card" to skip a blended set? For example just go for zx5 (I´m a 15 hcp)...
Are Srixon zx5 and Zx7 models more easily blended than others?
For sure one of the most seamless blending options available. Could also put the Mizuno Pro line in there.
They are louder than the 7s especially on misses.
@@EFGMC Thank you!
Wouldn’t the best idea in this example be to decrease loft by 1 on 9/pw and increase loft by 1 on 7/8?

I'm surprised that just making the ZX5 the same loft as the ZX7 didn't still show a gap since the 5 and 7 are built differently.
What about sub70?, they keep the same loft across the CB, TC and MB models.
That's true. They are the 1 in 20 with that setup.
It's a bit of headache to mix club's
