- Gauteng MEC for Economic Development and Finance Lebogang Maile is giving an update today in Sandton on Gauteng spaza shop registration.
Following the deaths of children due to poisoning, the President last November directed that all spaza shops and other food handling facilities must be registered within the municipalities in which they operate within 21 days from the date of his address and that any shop that is not registered within 21 days and does not meet all health standards and requirements is closed.
The registration deadline for all Spaza Shops and other food-handling outlets was extended to February 28.

Whats the alternative for your ordinary SAn who enjoys the convenience of spazashops right at the corner of the street..big retailers dont want to operate in townships...i know our Government they gonna fumble this is a scare tactic..foreigners are just waiting for the dust to settle and everything will go back to normal😂
The spaza shop apartheid policy of ANC is taking shape..
Its by time. These non tax paying rotten food suppliers needs to be shown the road. Next onto unregistered hair salons, restaurants, etc. They need to go open up businesses in their countries, or you can invite them to Zimbabwe who needs spaza shops and hair salons run by foreigners.
lets make it 31 December 2028 just to be safe
Your are deillusional
Yes plesse😢.
Extend the deadline for registration to 30 June 2025. Allow all applicants to trade without unconstitutional discrimination based on nationality,
Do they have R5 million as per our immigration laws, did they acquire a business Visa and lastly that's not a scarce skill ,Spaza shops are meant for Locals.
No extension required...non compliance...shut down.
Its unconstitutional to be an illegal immigrant in South Africa. Deport them!!!
R5 million upfront investment plus you hire 60% South Africans otherwise you don' meet minimum requirements to run a business in this country, it's in the constitution.
You are crazy. Go and tell that to the government where you come from.
