Thank you, writers, for letting a great character as Rafael Barba is say this spectacular and courageous speech. We all should have a Rafael Barba in every country who tries to change the laws for doing the world a better place to live in peace and respect!
Change what law. All the actions he described are illegal except that absurd rape claim"unless the show was about rape which I don't know". Over the top social justice!
@@stevep5408 If you go back and listen he asked a question "can a culture rape you, and sadly yes it can, meaning your very soul can be mangled by someone who doesn't accept you,"= the subliminal message people suck.
@@stevep5408 Great, I'm not the only one who can see that closing argument for what it is, nothing more than SJW victim culture. I'm not excusing that memo or the airline's attitude, but nothing there was even remotely criminal. I guess the axiom is true, you really can indict a ham sandwich. If that case goes to trial and I"m opposing counsel, I'm ripping him apart on that.
Change the laws? You must be one of those leftists who confuses lawyers and judges with legislators, and who literally equates speech with violence. This case is laughably weak at best. What you have here is a disgusting memo by a sexist CEO. That's it. Let's remember this is a CRIMINAL prosecution. *There might be a civil case here* but sexism and misogyny, even if real, are *not criminal acts.* It's a prosecutor's job to ENFORCE the law, not to change it, or to administer so-called "social justice." The law also doesn't change depending on how you FEEL about it. Finally, there's nothing spectacular or courageous about, "You better indict the airline because all men are pigs" which was basically what he was arguing - nothing more than SJW nonsense. A culture can rape you? Loss of dignity is LITERAL theft?! You have to be joking! If you think I'm being hyperbolic then go on Ebay or Amazon and do a search for "dignity" or "hope" or "self esteem." Not there? Oh, because I thought that it was property and property by law can be bought, sold, traded, passed on in wills. It's ridiculous.
@@tomservo75 When someone complains about 'victim culture' what they really mean is 'I would rather not hear people discuss the struggles of their lives because it bores me and I don't have a shred of empathy anywhere within my person'
He is correct. No one has the right to take another's dignity. Gender doesn't matter in commanding an airliner. It might for some jobs that require the ability to lift heavy loads, but some women are even able to do that and shouldn't be excluded simply because of gender. If they are physically able to do the job, they deserve the same consideration as a male.
Even the physical strength argument is suspect. Just as an example nursing is a female dominated profession, that's physically, mentally and emotionally demanding. Moving people - some of whom are substantially bigger than you does require a lot of strength and skill.
Kelly Rayburn I agree wholeheartedly. I am a man. I have above average intelligence. I am in great physical shape. I am also a hard worker. I have met women who were a lot smarter than me and better educated. Have met women who were stronger than me. I have met women who weren’t afraid to bust there buts for what they want. But sadly among these women too many get overlooked simply because they are women. I don’t like anyone to be discriminated against. Like you said if they are able to do the job they should be given the opportunity.
@@limacnaughton3352 physical is not suspect. It's why all the best athletes are male, it's why all the best rally drivers are male, it's why the top 500 pro players of any video game are all male. Kelly Rayburn I agree with you if a woman has the same qualifications as a man she should received the same consideration. Sadly you have a lot of chauvinist people out there.
The hilarious thing is that after this trial, even though the company is filing to dismiss (which Barba will challenge), the company’s stock tanked by 30% once word of the trial got out to the press. As far as I know, Barba is the only person who single handedly tanked an entire company’s value on SVU with his actions.
@Jason Bryant here's my legal dream team for what needs to be addressed today: Abbie Carmichael, Alexandra Cabot, Rafael Barba, Jack McCoy, Arthur Branch, Casey Novak, Peter Stone.
McCoy yes. He was a leftie too but also believed in personal responsibility and the letter of the law, thus would never have brought such a shamefully paper-thin prosecution as this, and would be shocked if it had DA McCoy's blessing. Barba I'm not familiar with since I don't watch SVU, but if this clip is a sample from his portfolio, I'd say he's more cut out for ambulance-chasing shyster.
@@tomservo75 Barba is the lawyer for the Special Victims Unit. Cases like this are brought to the court, along with cases like rape, incest and whatnot. Those cases are hard to prosecute. When Jack McCoy was in the courtroom, he took on major crime(murder, extortion, racketeering, and the like). He had a murder trial involving a drug years ago and he didn't just prosecute the killer, he went after the pharmaceutical company. They called him 'Hang him High McCoy" for a reason, ya know. So he would have likely signed off on Barbra's case, as well. This was not a paper thin prosecution at all. Its the law holding those in power accountable - something that should be done. In real life, they often aren't. Barba was one of the best DA's the SVU squad had. Not only because of his skills, but because of his compassion for the victims. He knew how to win a case. Jack did, too. Jack was just a bit more tenacious about it.
