    Another great job and massive kudos to you! I also did my brakes a few months back, no painting but did a refurb with new rubber seals and regrease of the pistons. I also managed to strip the threads on one of the bleed screws so had to get it sent off to be drilled and have a helicoil fitted, but all good now. Next job will be to change out discs and pads, but will also do the parking brake shoes when I do. I’m tempted to get the callipers painted and also add braided hoses for better feel but will wait and see how the bank balance looks before committing. Keep up the great vids and hopefully more to follow soon! 👍

    I have just bought a set of these calipers for my 2012 L320 along with a set of 380mm Brembo discs from carparts4 less and a set of Brembo pads from Autodoc.
    After watching your video, I made sure that I could loosen off and re-tighten the bleed nipples. Two came undone without much fuss but the other two were very tight, but I managed to loosen them without causing any damage. They would have been a nightmare to undo whilst the calipers were fitted to the vehicle and would have more than likely snapped.
    Looking forward to seeing your video on bleeding the system.

    Right now doing the same for my L322 5.0 SC. A week ago I decided to replace old pads. One side was absolutely fine, but the other side was completely jammed. All 6 pistons didn't move. I quit to order new pistons and tools as there are this stupid 12 point bolts. Today I noticed that there is a sea of dot4 under my wheel. Looks like I disturbed the seals on jammed pistons. Interesting thing is that the engine didn't start. I added some fluid, bleeded the brakes on the leaking wheel, the fluid level error disappeared but looks like the car doesn't want to start without pressure in the braking system as the braking pedal goes all the way down without resistance. Looks like I'll have to bleed all 4 wheel in the end.

  • @almac414
    @almac414 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes they look nice and are lighter than steel sliding calipers but I'm not convinced that Aluminium calipers have any place on a road car, they just dissolve in my experience. I have the same style of Brembo caliper on my BMW 335D (it's the 370mm front 4 pots and 345mm rear 2 pots). Every bleed nipple has sheared on the front, necessitating helicoiling, and the pad interface is turning to dust after not many years. Steel on aluminium is bad enough but throw in salt water as an electrolyte and you get the aluminium galvanically corroding. Mine are really badly pitted, and require quite frequent strip downs to pull the pads out and clean up the bare ends of the caliper before re-coating in brake grease and re-assembling. They're just not suited to wet, salty environments IMO. Good job on the repair, they actually look in decent nick for 200k!

    Enjoyed your video , apart from your mishap . On a brighter note - you now have two nearly new callipers and you should have the other two Brembo decals ! win win . Do not put copperslip on your bleed nipples , use the trw grease or ceramic grease . I use the later on glow plugs , after removing the heater plugs from a Freelander 2 with 135k miles on it . All four were not working which leads me to suspect they were original , they had a white residue on them - so I looked into it . They were the easiest heater plugs I ever removed .

    Great vid series, Sam. I have an L320 2007 vintage with Brembos - replaced the discs 18 months ago, and now have the annoying warp vibe when braking from speed; I drive it quite carefully, and don't give the brakes a hard time, but will be disappointed if I need to shell out more £££ to change them again after such a short length of time. I've not measured the discs for warpage, so might be dissing them unnecessarily, but will be interested to see how your discs stand the test of time.

    Hi Sam, great channel. I really enjoy your stuff. Did you need to perform the bedding in process for the handbrake ?

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t do the bedding in procedure as the shoes are pretty old and worn (ideally they would have been replaced but couldn’t get parts in time from LR), so I didn’t want to strain the linings and potentially damage the shoes by doing the bedding in procedure, which is quite harsh.

    Another great video Sam....keep them up. I have the same L322 as Sam although mine is the Autobiography edition. I refurbed the rears recently and unfortunately I didn't nip the rear hoses up sufficiently for the 7 days the calipers were off and getting shot blasted, painted and rebuilt and brake fluid has been leaking from the rear lines. I am really struggling bleeding the system now the calipers are back on and suspect there may be air in the ABS system that requires purging. I have heard the front calipers are an issue with the pins and brake nipples prone to seizing in the aluminium casing.
