    I remember it being said somewhere the old Charlie was afraid to operate her on her last trip back in 91. There was so much steam leaking from the cab and of the boiler around the Firebox. Until I saw this video, I had never really been able to put that statement into context. Holy crap

      Hi Mike ggg. You pointed out something I didn't notice until now, 30 years later, the steam leaking from the cab. I guess that's why 2102 was side-lined soon after 1991. I hope the current rebuild took care of these problems so she can operate for years to come.

      My God, you’re right! I can see why Charlie would’ve been so nervous about running the 2102 on that final trip. That wasn’t the mud ring seal coming loose, was it?

    Excellent video, can't wait until one of these beasts is returned to steam. Would love to see it run with NKP 765.

      Thanks for the kind comments! I have more videos in the "video vault" to publish. I will publish them as time permits - this is a "labor of love", I'm not getting compensated. But I think its better than a stash of videos sitting in a basement or attic with no one watching or enjoying them. Please share and enjoy!

      Thanks for the kind comment! 2102 is scheduled to run again starting May 28th this year. I'm sure the crowds will be huge. I plan to get trackside for video this summer.

    Thanks Andrew for the update! I'm waiting anxiously to get trackside to do some more photography and video. If you have any updates I appreciate them. It's been 30 years since anyone was able to watch/ photograph 2102 in action. I hope at some time soon the 2100 will join 2102 in operation. That would bring in railfans nationwide!

    Great footage! Especially love the whistle play around 11:34. Been watching a lot of 2102 content in preparation for her return and am very excited. Just out of curiosity, since the railroad had no connection to Jim Thorpe for a while, do you know what tracks 2102 would've taken in the 1980s between Reading and Jim Thorpe?

    • @stcyardmaster6094
      @stcyardmaster6094  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the 1980's the Blue Mountain & Reading excursions to Jim Thorpe operated from Reading to Allentown and Jim Thorpe via Conrail. In 1992 R&N rebuilt several miles of the ex-RDG Catawissa Branch from E. Mahanoy Jct. to Haucks. They could reach Jim Thorpe by a reverse move there. Finally in 1997 R&N completed the 3rd leg of a "wye" at Haucks so direct moves could happen without wasting over an hour reversing the train - each time both ways. The same thing would have to happen on a return trip to Port Clinton.

    Near the beginning of the video, I heard a 6 Chime whistle that I couldn’t identify, as it wasn’t her Reading 6 Chime. Almost sounded like a Boston & Maine 6 Chime, but I can’t be sure. Anybody know which one it is?

    So, what was that second whistle she was wearing on this trip, and why was it placed on her?

    How long are the green passenger cars it was pulling? Thank you.

    • @stcyardmaster6094
      @stcyardmaster6094  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those cars were former Delaware Lackawana & Western commuter cars used in NJ. They were built around 1917 and were in use until the 1980's. They're 70 feet long, built by the Pullman company and are high-roofed trailer cars. Most of the powered cars had lower roofs. The BM&R bought around 20 of them, 15 high roof trailers and 5 lower roofed powered cars. The 5 were painted in red and were mostly pulled by the 2 E-8's. The remaining 15 were painted in green. The 5 red cars were sold a number of years ago. Hope this helps!

      @@PFR1 You're welcome! Please feel free to post any more questions. I'll reply... This is a new venture for me so cut me some slack if it takes time to reply. Question for you - from your on-line name, do you repair American Flyer trains? Just asking, I don't have any AF trains at this time, just HO and Lionel O-scale.

      I don't repair any American Flyer trains at this time. I don't have access to parts, etc. I try to repair the HO and O-Lionel trains that I do have. Sorry to take so long to reply to your question. I'm still working and have to do "on-call" every 3 weeks so it may take some time for me to reply. Thanks!
