    This is my full review of both grading companies since I decided to send to both of them for grading
    Starting off with VGA I sent my game at the end of May 2021, their website disclosed that there was a 8 Week backlog until they will reach your game. I send a game to (Halo 2 Collectors Edition). So the setup process is all manual, meaning that you have to download a PDF and fill it up yourself with all the data (the Game title, what services you want, etc...) then you need to either put your CC information and they will charge you or you put your Paypal email and they will send the invoice to you. In my case I chose the Express grading (which they say it takes 2 weeks to grade) + cleaning service.
    It took until September 1st for VGA to send me an Invoice of the order (the 8 week Backorder became 12) once I paid the invoice it took them less than an hour to confirm the payment and tell me that the grading process will start and will take 2 weeks. Exactly 1 month after the estimated grading date, I received the game graded.
    In the customer support side, I contacted them once (July 2021)and they answered the next day with the information I needed, so their customer support is effective and the information was truthful (they told me about the extra 4 week backlog due to received a lot of games) and it was exactly 4 week later that it happened.
    So, for VGA, the total time for a grading was 4 and a half months
    Now for WATA Games
    I sent 2 games to Wata on August 12th
    Their website makes it easy for game submission, you select the game you want to grade, what services and......what speed you want it graded**, from which I chose 15 WORKING DAYS turnaround... that 2 weeks later the website changed to 45** now remember that part because it's important for this process that happened. So when everything is selected you get an email with the paper you need to put in the box to send the games.
    A month and a half later (September 29th)they send an email that the games got graded and I receive an email about the games receiving a grade above 9.0 and will receive a Deep Badge and that I have to pay for that extra aside for the $8 dollars you already paid beforehand in the website as one of the services.... ok whatever, I approve it.
    A month passes by, no update, I decide to message them on October 20th since it has been graded and no update was given, on november 4th they finally answer that they have receive a largo volume of games. so the original 15 working days turned to 45 during the process. Fine, they are busy.,.
    Another month passes by, on December 2nd I decide to message them again as it has been 76 working days , almost double the time they said on their website, I got a vague response back with almost the same response as last time that they were busy blah blah blah....
    Since the holidays we coming soon I decided to cut them some slack.
    Almost 2 months later, still no update, I decide to email them AGAIN on January 21st saying it was 113 working days, they responded 3 days later with the same cookie cutter answer as always saying they are busy blah blah blah, at that point it was Triple the amount of working days and with no updates
    As a last straw on April 3rd I decided to open a dispute with my bank for the payment of this service and explained to them that I paid for a service that the website clearly specifies a number of days (showed the bank the website and the false advertisement they had on it) and my bank decided to start a dispute with WATA....with my surprise that 2 days after my bank decided to start the dispute WATA magically emails me saying that the game will finally ship on the end of April
    I finally received my 2 graded games on May 2nd
    The 15 Working days that turned to 45 working days 2 weeks later ended up being 179 Working Days (that is excluding holidays)
    Total turnaround = 8 Months!!!
    Now that I gave you my review and are thinking of grading your sealed game do with this information what you want

    Vga has always been classy. WATA has screwed the market by grading CIB copys. The world and its wife are sending in crap open games to grade and causing mad backlog and listing at mad prices 😂
    In the past if you wanted graded game it was only a sealed copy you went vga.

    Something I can’t find online is the process for sending a game to VGA. I sent some games to VGA and I feel silly not knowing if they’ve received my order or whether or not I completed the paperwork correctly. It’s definitely a trust/waiting game sending games to get graded, but reassurance from them would be nice. Would that be something you would be able to cover in a future video? Possibly how to send a game and the steps involved?

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tomorrow I have a WATA submission video going up and the VGA one will come soon haha!
      On my last VGA submission, it took them 3-4 weeks after delivery to finally invoice me/confirm they received it all. Both companies are experiencing major backlogs so it's a major waiting game for any kind of correspondence.
      Even if you made any mistakes on the paperwork, they will correct them for you or message once they finally begin reviewing your order/confirming it:)

  • @PoiTechGbo

    You can get your snes/N64 games graded the way you are asking for during the submission process you have the option between 3D Banner or 2D Flat.

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wrote a little disclaimer in the description below the video. I know that option exists, but it is hardly used by anyone and I can't recommend someone to use it. Many, and myself, prefer the ugly sideways orientation vs having the grade hidden on the side. It's all preference of course, but just my opinion on the 2D design!

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What you are seeing is the VGA case is still inside of a decently thick Poly Bag which is affecting the clarity of the case. With the bag removed, they are comparable in presentation. I leave the bags on most games so I don't accidentally scratch the actual case when handling it, but I should have removed it for the video!

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is SO much to go through for why WATA dominates the market and the whole WATA and heritage link haha. You can likely Google to find a good rundown of how everything came to be, but essentially WATA and heritage are closely linked - board members on both companies type of thing.
      WATA is owned by a very prominent collector who was is the scene for a very long time, and is backed by a lot of other prominent members which immediately gave them huge validity/prominence.
      And then a whole bunch of calculated moves and marketing later, and here we are. Now WATA is recognized as the leader and VGA did nothing to help strengthen their own footprint. They have a lot of catching up to do now...

    I really wanna get a couple of my games graded. They sit heavily protected inside boxes inside storage containers inside my closet. Waiting a year for my game to be graded isnt the issue. Do they guarantee that your games will get there and back to you? Have you ever had an issue with a lost game or have you ever sent them a pristine game and got your game back with a terrible grade because it was damaged in the shipping process on the way there?

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't had any issues like that (nor have I heard any horror stories like that) but the risk DOES exist. Obviously get your insurance on shipping and be sure to declare proper value with the grading companies, but yea, outside of it all, you still have to accept the risk that something COULD happen.

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Willy, have you ever used either company or sold any graded games yourself? Most people, unless grading very worn, common, or undesirable games, see returns that more than justify the cost of grading itself. No, it's not a guarantee, but saying the vast majority won't even cover the cost of grading isn't accurate.
      I encourage you to try it out yourself if you haven't already!

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh for sure, I've seen the countless people talking about this. The vast majority without actual experience in both grading there own games and then selling them.
      People who screw this up don't understand "why" the graded counterparts might sell for more. People who think it is just some kind of money multiplier will be disappointed, yes.
      Certain titles in certain conditions should never be graded in hopes of making money.
      However, there is value in simply grading for personal enjoyment, and I recommend everyone try it for themselves if they are unsure. You don't HAVE to do it simply for money - although many do attempt to.

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quite frankly, most collectors are awful at appraising their games' condition and don't participate in the market where slight condition variances matter. Which is fine, but that's where much of the "graded premium" comes from. You personally don't care if your sealed game has some small rips or slight dents, but other people do. These same premiums exist across coins, cards, comics, etc. Just because you don't see inherent value in the appraisal system, doesn't mean others don't. You wouldn't discuss high-end coins with someone who doesn't participate in the market - the same can be said about the vast majority of video game collectors. They don't participate in the graded/sealed/high-end market (or even have accurate knowledge of it) so why would their opinion hold weight?
      With the hypothetical buyer who won't spend an extra $200 to have a perfect seal - that's fine, they aren't the target market anyhow. There are many instances where I won't pay the premium as well. If that happens with everyone, then yes, the graded example is overpriced and will likely need to be dropped to find a buyer. It still works the same as the ungraded market. Buyer's are the ones who decide if the market will exist or not.
      The sealed and/or graded video games are basically a separate market and hobby altogether. Some people get excited about finding a cartridge at their local game store. Others get excited when they finally acquire Ocarina of Time in VGA 95 condition.

      @Kyle Reese Incel From The Future it’s just fine if that is your opinion. For me vga and also ukg are just some unlovely Acryl cases. The look exactly the same as normal Acryl cases with some printed information. In my opinion wata just got a more nice and more lovely design. Luckily we can choose the system, which we like better, so it’s just fine.
      Btw is saw many vga cases cracked after hitting the floor once.Wata doesn’t. So i guess wata is actually harder to break than vga is. Saw some vga cases which were cracked during shipping, so i really do not guess that vga is more stable than wata 😂

    i think grading is stupid. Video Games meant to be played. Only games you should sent to grading, is if you want to display it, and its like top 10 of all time, also extra copy. Most "Graders" like 99% is just to get more profit out of it to sell. But thanks for video, if i ever find perfect/brand new sealed copy of one of my favorite games, i sent it to Wata. =)

    • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's more important to understand why people are willing to pay more for the graded copy of the game regardless if you agree with it or not. You can utilize grading to your advantage if you know what you're doing, and then cycle that money back into games you would enjoy way more!

      @@GetTheGreg ;p i think i came off little harsh earlier comment, i totally agree with important of understanding of graded copy. My only issue with it, if it a game you love very much, the most justifying to do is playing it, also i dont think video games should be hitting price ranges over $1000, developers/publishers/people holding license should make them more available to the public. Main reason i always be pro-pirate (unless you selling copies/pirated as real ones, than i highly dont agree with that), cause in the end they be ones preserving history, and giving access to people that would never otherwise be able to play the games. I totally think it a cool idea of getting extra goodies to get graded to cycle the money back into your collection. I usually just left them in the wild for someone else to find and experience finding awesome game in the wild, unless i knew it a game friend was looking for. =) i liked how very detailed/educational your video was.

As I age and time becomes more limited, my appreciation now has come from the preservation and acquiring of little trophies, really. Having favourite games in pristine condition that I can display and talk to people about has become just as fulfilling as the actual aspect of playing. Same with trading cards. I used to derive most of my pleasure from playing with them, now I get most from just looking at them haha.

Having a graded nintendo championships game is one thing, but the appalling amount of games that are now being graded and sold to people and being hyped up online as how to make a quick buck has to stop. And it will. Wata and heritage will be known as a fraud and anyone who associates with it. • @GetTheGreg
      @GetTheGreg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We can all agree there's no better rush than a good garage sale find, but I'm not sure we will ever reach a period where it's generally "worthwhile" to hunt again. Hell, I had to stop doing that years ago once the first big boom happened (maybe 2016ish?) I remember local carts of Mario Kart 64 had gotten to $70CAD at my game shop (I collect everything, not just sealed).
      A lot of emphasis goes to the sealed and graded market for causing blanket price increases across the board, but this kind of price inflation has been seen before, and when graded games weren't making any headlines. As much as I would love new people to be able to go out and get a snag on some cool games, most will be stuck paying "retail" to enter the hobby.
      I don't deny that there are trickle over effects into some CIB games, but I honestly feel the cart market, for the most part, will act independently from almost any sealed/graded noise. I'm not sure I've seen any high correlation between sealed selling high and CIB rising in the disk based markets. Tomb Raider and FF7 black label are still very affordable CIB yet both having 100k sealed sales.
      Anyway, just some more thoughts on the matter.
