That regulator bracket was super clean. I try to do the same thing but I don’t feel I ever get quite the perfect final result like I had in my head lol
I love lt when he gets going on his ocd and making stuff look nice. Sounds logical or like it's good practice and the he throws in sheepish "I'm just doing this cause I what to" like the boost gage. It's for self indulgence isn't it? Lol
If you wanna go crazy with that cooler inside the supercharger, you should route your cold a/c Freon into the cooler instead of water cooling. It would also run at a higher pressure than what your forcing in. If you went that route, or whether you do or don’t, I’d recommend wrapping all your a/c lines in aluminum insulation tape. It’ll stop your lines heat soaking in the bay and will reduce how long that compressor needs to run to do it’s job. Only if you feel like going all mad scientist on it with the cooler lol.
Hey LT, great video. I used a liquid filled fuel pressure gauge on a BBC Nova and it reads incorrectly when hot. Purchased another with the same results. Found out that heat changes the pressure inside the gauge and incorrectly displays the wrong fuel pressure.
@Lawrence LT Tolman. I have a 2002 Silverado 4.8. Cold air throttle body spacer electric fans stage 2 low lift cam kit from TSP bully dog tuner and a built 4l60e trans. Right now I run 93 octane, nothing lower. Can I run E85 fuel in my engine now and get some hp gains. If not, then what would i need to change
No, it’s not so simple. your fueling will be off, since e85 requires roughly 30% more volume. To properly run e85 you need to change the operating system to a 2002 Tahoe using HP Tuners or efi live and add a flex fuel sensor
Only small disappointing thing is not making brackets out of aluminium, kinda sort of think it looks better, if it was a factory steel bracket it would be a sculptured pressed thin wall material with dimples in the bend corners etc so if you not doing it that factory look I think ali is the go but JMHO
LT, I want to upgrade my fuel system similar to what you did in preparation for a turbo set up. Can I do that early so it’s done and run everything else stock till I get my turbo?
yep, just as long as your regulator will return enough of the excess fuel back to the tank, no worries. Both of my trucks worked great with a single 450 pump on stock lines and regulator.
You can only do that if the fuel rail has two fittings. The LS9 fuel rail he is using only has one fitting. There still isn’t a restriction in the supply line. The regulator just has a valve that bleeds off extra fuel to the return line.
Hey LT, love the channel!! Question about the fuel regulator plumbing... I was told by the local machine/dyno shop to plumb my regulator in after my fuel rails so it doesn't starve the engine at WOT. Have you considered this?
if you have a fuel rail with fittings on each end so fuel can flow through it, that's a great way to do it, but with the LSA Rails there is only one port, so it would be impossible to plumb it this way. However, if you have an option to do it that way, it is better (or so they say)
Where did you route your return line off the new regulator? My kit says to drill the tank and put a bulkhead fitting for the return? I don’t like that idea.
My year of truck already had a feed and return line so it was pretty easy, but I believe the 2003+ trucks only had a feed line so you need to run another line. Some people use the existing 3/8 feed as a return, and add another larger -8 for a new feed line.
Absolutely agree! Redesigned everything on my Belair build to accommodate this: 6.0 with L92 swap, especially because your fuel pump will burn out much faster. Vaporworx all the way! I'd read up on it or just call him, he knows his $h!t. That being said, thanks for the great writeup: pulling my brick off to be beefed up before it collapses.
yeah, fuel flows right behind that cavity. I'll keep an eye out for leaks, but I have used teflon tape on tapered threads with fuel before with no leaks.
If the external pressure on the exchanger is greater than the relief pressure of the radiator cap it may be able to collapse the exchanger and push a little bit to the overflow. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause it.
Complexity. If the fuel pump is closely matched to the actual fuel consumption, especially with variable-rate pumps, the need for a return line is diminished. Main points of a return type fuel system is to reduce load on the fuel pump, and to keep fuel from heating too much as it's near the engine. Fuel boiling isn't really an issue with fuel injection in street vehicles, but can be an issue in carbureted vehicles or high-hp race vehicles.

Ah yes the AN, A-N or Army-Navy fittings do have quite the product offering. Milspec standards make speaking the same fitting language easier!

If you used a Motion Raceworks ICON throttle body you wouldn't have to make a throttle cable bracket, they make them and the quality is hard to beat.

You should have put the regulator on return line so you wont have any restriction on fuel going to the injectors

Do you know if there is any fuel that reaches the gauge in the fuel pressure regulator? I thought teflon tape wasn't compatible with fuel?

Since water cannot be compressed, does the heat exchanger collapse only happen if there is air in the system? Or am I missing something..

There will be air in the system at the top of the reservoir, much like in a coolant expansion tank in your engines cooling system.
