    I used to race in the early 00s and haven't rode in 20 years. Just picked up a cheap 29er with this fork and its actually great. No worse that what used to be high end back in the day. Its a pogo but it feels good and I always prefer coil spring to air. For a basic cheap ass fork with virtually no useful adjustments its pretty damn good and perfectly good on moderate single track.

    I think my old 2008 Trek 3700 has this system.
    The user manual recommends leaving them set to factory settings.
    These older entry-level light-duty bikes weren't intended for deadly terrain.
    I stand on the pedals and use bent legs and arms as shock absorbers.

    The sticker is a CYA thing for Suntour and the oil on the stanchions is pretty normal. They're not nearly as terrible as forks found on Walmart bikes, but they sometimes fall apart after going off of large drops.

      I just did that on mine. I had it all the way open. It took 8 half turns to all the way closed. Then I opened it 4 half turns for a starting point. I saw on an ebike forum that your forks should compress 1/3 of the travel sitting on your bike with all your weight on it. That fork has 100mm travel so 1/3 would be 33mm. He suggested put a zip tie around the fork and push the zip tie all the way down. Then compress with your weight and measure to the bottom of the zip tie. Adjust fork as necessary to achieve 33mm.

    I just bought an e-bike it has these kind of shocks but the caps pop off and the shocks are Halllow! No locking mechanism. Is this a manufacturer error, or do they make shocks like this? They ride nice, I just ride on flat surfaces, but are these a type of shock forks? They do havr a Phillips head screw at the bottom of them,....idk weird, any comments would be greatly appreciated

    Hey I’ve got a trek Marlin 7 with rockshox forks and a lockout option. It’s been recently bought about 2 weeks ago but the suspension barely goes down, it feels really hard when you lift the front wheels up and down again and it makes a big thud instead of soaking it up. I’ve but the preload option to maximum of the suspension going down but it still doesn’t work. Is it just because it’s new and I need to wear it a little bit or what? Thanks

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the lockout is turned on, then the suspense and will be hard to compress. It might be that, or it might be something else. If it is an error shock, there might be too much air in it.

    • @zookerman
      @zookerman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hoohoohoblin it’s alright now I found the problem. It was the tyre pressure cos it was really high and it was really hard every time the front wheel went down a rock or a curb or something. It works a treat now anyway because I let some air loose a bit to make the tyres absorb a bit. Thanks anyway

    My daughter has very similar SR Suntour suspension. I've just got a tool to loosen them as they we too tight to do by hand without damaging the bike. However I've totally undone the top cap and the suspension has absolutely no springiness to it. Do you have to undo the nut at the bottom of the suspension fork too?

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some forks have a lockout switch on the top of the tube. If the lockout is turned on, the fork doesn’t bounce at all, and if you turn it off, the fork bounces. The one in the video does not have a lock out, but maybe yours does. I think it would be on the top of the fork though.

      I was thinking the same thing about my bike. Good forks will cost more than the bike is worth if you buy new ones, but if you want some forks that are a little better but not the best, you could look on eBay for someone who bought a bike with good forks with compression and rebound adjustment, and then took the forks off while they were still new so they could upgrade to really good forks. This way you'll get some new forks that are much better than the stock ones, but won't have to pay a new price.

      It is pretty tough. The problem I had with it is that it wasn’t very adjustable, and it was bottoming out all the time on fast downhill runs. But even with all the bottom out and clanking around, I couldn’t break it. It’s a decent fork for an entry level mountain bike, and it’s good for medium speed riding off road. That being said, the rockshox recon silver fork I bought to replace it is significantly better Under all conditions.

      You should be able to make it less bouncy by cranking up the preload and also by moving the lock lever closer to lock position. Some bikes have a lock that is an on and off switch, and other ones lock more as you move it closer to the locked position. Not sure what kind of fork you have.

    im only 45kg, and my sr suntour xcm is so stiff that its basically a rigid bike at this point, if I use all my energy and weight while on the bike pushing the fork down, it moves about 20%, I would feel the every bump and if I ride naturally the suspension doesnt have sag whatsoever, the preload is at its lightest, and its been annoying me a lot and I dont really know what to do at this point, do I have to buy a new air shock so that I could adjust the air pressure?

    • @hoohoohoblin

    Some absolute a***hole stole my suspension forks and handlebar recently from my Diamondback 3.0 sync. I don’t know much about bikes. It originally had these suntour xct suspension forks. Is it fairly easily compatible with other suntour forks or will it have to be these again?

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's terrible. Living in Los Angeles, I'm always afraid my bike will be gone when I leave it somewhere. I peeled all the RockShox stickers off of my fork so thieves won't know what it is. My son has had 2 of his bikes stolen. Your bike has a 1 1/8" headest on it. so any fork that size will fit. Depending on how much hard riding you do, you may want to put a better fork on it than stock. But if you want a basic Suntory XCT or XCR fork, you can find used ones cheap on eBay from people who took them off to upgrade to a better fork, or you could ask a local bike shop if they have any entry-level used forks they've taken off of customers' bikes.

      Clockwise puts more pressure on the spring, and counterclockwise puts less pressure on the spring.
