I really hope that these poor girls lives turned out ok as most had mental health that was very severe and shouldn't have been in prison because they needed help not harm and in most cases . It's so awful that some are trapped in cycle and had bad unsupportive familys. All my love to them girls sadly some of these girls are probably dead now . This documentary was made when I was only about 3 as I was born in 1984 . As from problems in the system and sending the mentally ill to prison nothing sadly has changed as I've watched other documentary s and still the self harming is an issue.
Agreed. As a former control and restraint tutor, it also amazes me that the cell doors open inwards, as they can be barricaded from the inside and they also make restraint team entry difficult.
Design was built by arse holes. In offices it had great intentions but reality you see this yourself.. today's world is still the same to many arseholes in office it make all the red tape for today difficult I'm just released from a prison that's 122 years old ..some screws r ok some old bastard's like the authority..get the old cunts out retrain reeducate its 2024 ..get with it im 50 there was no punishment nothing my mind was free lock lock 23hourd al you gain is hatred resentment towards prison staff and the system.EDUCATION IS KEY BOTH SIDES .. anyways I'm not guilty it still hangs over me it's bullshit your treatment is guilty and I haven't been convicted..
They shouldn't have demolished the old Holloway prison...The new one lasted barely 40 years... The new buildings were full of vermin...No government, was ever going to class Holloway as anything other than a prison... The old Holloway had observation points and clear sight lines, meaning that blind spots where inmates couldn't attack each other went with this ridiculous new, and badly designed building... The corridor layout is absolutely ridiculous!...
They've banned cigs in prison? I couldn't deal with that! My nicotine fix was the only thing keeping me going in this dump. I couldn't eat a single "meal" they served bc of a giant spider I found crawling in my sandwich on day 2. I came out of there a skeleton. Roaches also infested our block & the guards weren't like this! Glad I never got in trouble again after my only Holloway sentence.. I'm too squeamish for prison or whatever this maze was.
Its so shocking how it was designed with proper rehab and support for women in mind which was why the building was built as "trusting"but without adequate staff , specialist training or mental health support , the building became totally unsuitable. I can't believe that prisoner succeeded in breaking two panes of the cell window - a whole riot could've started if others had joined in. Sadly Feltham Prison is exactly thr same design.
Hope the girls on the mummies wing never saw a prison again and nor have their children,it must be hard to have to tell them that they were prison babies.love to them all hope they went into better lives.
Been watching the old docs on the male prisons but this was immediately so much more horrifying. Care system or psych system to prison. That's no fuckin working system at all. Just neglected girls, fucked over. My heart broke seeing them. 😢
Sure did for me too. Were you there as a staff member or inmate if you don't mind me asking? I was the latter for a while around this time (nothing serious, I'm not a monster lol). I forgot just what a mess it was. It looked bad before the rebuild but the maze they turned it into was ridiculous, especially the simple but hazardous mistakes made.. ✌️
Ever since they banned prisoners smoking they just do spice and other drugs instead, then they get caught and don't get parole hence prison overcrowding. When you are locked in a tiny room most of the day you need some type of vice to pass the time and get pleasure. Just let them smoke!
The warden cuddling the inmate had me in tears some of them did care about the inmates

I didn't know Julian Cleary had provided the narration for this.
15:19 The discussion is fascinating but I’m distracted by the badly penciled in eyebrows.
Yep me too 😂
oh grow up
This was filmed in 1985/86, the prison was only rebuilt c1979, how the hell did they manage to design it with blind spots and a maze of corridors?

@@peterlawson777this entire complex is being demolished at the moment , the land has been sold to housing developers.

My sister was one of those Officers, sadly she is no longer with us.
💐🙏
My sister was Pam Ellis, and was quite upsetting to see her on screen, didn't even know she took part in a documentary. 😞
@@DawnWillard-f8f I was a inmate around 93
@@DawnWillard-f8f wow...
Incredibly tough job. She deserves recognition and respect for the work she did. Few would have the strength to do it.

Ahh yes the good old days... 😂
Most of them woman will be in their late 50s early 60s now
37:44 Whoa. I did not expect that from dear, sweet Connie. I hope she turned out okay after all this.
Crikey! This brought so many memories.

I wonder what happened to that baby born to Debbie and Vincent
both of them looked like nice people hope both and the baby still alive. x
So sad but shocking hearing about the hangings and a girl pulling her own eye out omg ..
Prison guards lighting the inmates cigarettes 😲

When I was on c1 in early 90s we couldn't have lighters or matches due to the risk of committing arson
Do they have a protection wing??
Oh how well thy husband sleeps
Yeah, cos she poisoned him ! 😅😳
Bet it smells worse than a fish factory in there 😂
Put some trousers on those staff!! 😂
Great channel, superb👌
The staff only act nice for the cameras.
