I don't think Sissi used hairpieces... Her hair was notoriously of an exceptional thickness and gave her major headaches. That style is really beautiful ! I'm sad I don't have extensions do recreate it.

Three years later I just found this video and was about to say the same. Also her hair was naturally wavey which would have added volume :D

    • @annam.8369

Actually I've read somewhere she had a maid just for collecting her loose hair strands that had fallen out and they were braided into her braids later.

@@annam.8369 I think there are so many anecdotes. I read somewhere that she was so obsessed with her hair not falling out that she would inspect the hairbrushes and if there were hair in them she would throw a fit. So her hairdresser put a sticky tape in her apron and would sneakily pass the brush over it so the tape would pick up the hair. Its quite funny hehe

If she was anorexic, I'm certain she had to wear hair peices. I wasnt even that thin before I recovered from mine but I had it falling out by the hand full daily.

No, Fanny Feifalik, her hairdresser hide Elisabeth's hair that was fallen out behind her apron.
Would she use it later for hairpieces Elisabeth would know how many hair she lost...

My goodness! I have been binge-watching some of her videos, and she really does "the work of five people" with her historical hairstyles! One can see that she really loved what she is doing, or else, she wouldn't spend so much time recreating the looks of Empress Elisabeth or the Queen Marie Antoinette. I admire her for that.

      @starthelotus3453 ปีที่แล้ว

@@monikalynn8527 That's an earlier Egyptian style, she lived in the Ptolemaic era where royal women would've worn Greek styles in non-ceremonial contexts. It was only really priests and priestesses who were fully bald, with wigs being used to add volume to hair. Animal skins also weren't used on hair, though perfumes wax cones were during formal situations. Straight hair wasn't really worn either, with predominant styles among upper class women being braids, curls, and crimped tresses. I'd recommend reading Joann Fletcher's thesis on hair throughout the dynasties.

Nice video, I'm really interested in Elisabeth as a historical person. Have you seen the SIssi films with Romy Shcneider from the 50's? They have really nice hairstyles and costume, though the plot is not exactly historically accurate.. There is also a musical named "Elizabeth" which is very good!

Miss Loepsie, I think you've done a marvelous job at recreating the famous signature coiffure of Empress Elizabeth of Austria. I'll bet you dollars to donuts that her hairdresser, Frau Fanny Angerer, might have sewn those braided loops together rather than rely on hairpins. I've watched the "Sissi" trilogy with Romy Schneider so many times, oogling the few braided loop hairstyle scenes. Of course it was a wig Romy used, but Elizabeth had fabulous, thick hair so I don't think she resorted to extensions. Sissi's sisters also adopted the famous style. Thanks for a lovely video.

Amazing! You nailed it! Sisi was and still is an inspiring and quite interesting figure. Not your usual empress :) I loved to watch the animated series about her when I was small. Even when I got older and visited Vienna, I was so amazed by an exhibition dedicated just to her. But I had no idea about how she would make herself look so beautiful. And it's also pretty amazing that her grave in the Habsburg family tomb is one of the rarest that has lots of flowers on it. People still adore her, even after a 100 years after she died!
For the next Beauty Beacon I nominate Eleanor of Aquitaine, queen of England, Joan of Arc and saint Helena, empress of the Roman empire. They were all quite influental in terms of politics and war, but I believe they too had to maintain a certain image (:
LOVE all your beauty history series! Keep up the good work :D

Kudos to you for recreating her hairstyle beautifully, but it was all her hair, I would like to mention. Because of her lengh the braids seemes to be thicker when wrapped around like that. We actually have a life size wig, a recreation of her actual hair, in the palace where she used to live (Schönbrunn). Her hair was so thick and heavy, they had to lift it up in the evenings, so it wouldn't pull down on her scalp (which caused her migraines)... I can only imagine the pain she went through...my hair is only at bum length, but I get migraines so often because it is so thick and heavy. Still I love it to death tho...wouldn't give it up for the world!
Even once I went to the dresses so she can trim the ends and that witch cut 25cm of my hair because she said it wasn't healthy (completely not true). Since then I've only went to one hair dresser that only cuts when the ends split and I have reached a length of about 105cm, and my hair is really healthy - I cut the ends every 2 months.

Gosh nice work ! Sissi's hair is definitely a challenge, well done :) I'd love to see you do maharani Gayatri Devi, she was an amazing woman and a great beauty icon !

Uh, loved that video! For other iconic looks, I might suggest Marie Antoinette or Madame Pompadour. Also maybe sonething with a hat (like 1910s hairstiles somewhat..)

I know everyone has been suggesting it, but Anne Boleyn! I love to dress as her for Hallowe'en, complete with bloody wounds around the neck (of course I don't expect you to go *that* macabre for this series!).

Really love, but I would love to see more images to the stories, perhaps some more paintings/photos etc would be lovely so we can really get a feel of teh ladies style ^^
