  • This is video tutorial to make very effective & cheap 4 stage water purification system to purify municipal water (tap water). You can also add pre- filter as 5th stage, this will increase life of other filters. Pre- filter can be easily clean.
    You can find all the material at local spare part shop. Or you can purchase it online using links at the end.
    I recommend to purchase the material from local store because prices are little high online.
    Materials:-
    1x Sediment filter (standard 12 inch filter)
    1x Carbon filter (standard 12 inch filter)
    1x UF Membrane
    1x UV barrel / bowl 8”
    1x UV lamp 11 watt (Philips make)
    1x UV Choke / adapter 220v AC
    1x Teflon tape
    6x Elbow (1 side push fit & 1 side threaded)
    3x I-connector
    12x Push fitting locks
    4x C-Clamps
    4x X-Clamps (1 side large and 1 side small)
    4x 1” Nut bolt
    10 feet RO filter Pipe
    Double sided tape
    2-3” piece of ½” water tube (pipe)
    23 x 15 cm piece of plywood
    1x Cooler pump (optional)
    Note : replace the filters ( sediment, carbon & UF) every 12-18 months based on water uses. Do not drink 1st 10 liters of water during 1st use as it may contain residual dirt etc.

But now with your video guidance i had assembled a purifier and from last 9 months it's running successfully. Thank you once again.

    Good project, I would like to comment on some points
    1. Uf filters are advertised for delivering 99.99% of pathogen removal, I think there is no need for UV ?
    2. Filtering lot of dirty water will get your filter to saturation in no time, this kind of filters are used for clean water, for raw water you need a cleanable filter with backwash.

    • @howtoStuti
      @howtoStuti  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Seif Eddine B yes UF removes pathagens but there are still other viruses which are not removed by UF. Also there are lots of duplicate UF mamberane available in market which are not as much effective hance UV is used for
      extra protection.
      2. I add the pre filter before this filter. Whicg can be celan manually. I posted pre filter video saperatly.
      Thanks for feed back

    Great idea, I think the design is what most commercial 4 stage filtration systems use, but for a lot more money than this DIY setup. But I have serious reservations about your electrical work. The way you've connected the power supply to the mains is VERY DANGEROUS and ILLEGAL in most countries !!!!! The flimsy electrical connections shown in this video where wires were twisted together, then electrical tape wrapped around them, could result in serious electric shock or death to anyone using this water filter. If unsure how to do the electrical work safely, ask an electrician.

    • @howtoStuti
      @howtoStuti  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you!!! there are several differences between them but the main difference is -
      UF filter can pass salts dissolved in the water along with the water molecules .it can kill and remove bacteria and viruses from the water.
      RO membrane kills bacteria and viruses and removes dissolved salts from the water.It allows only water to pass through it.that is why the water we get at the outlet of RO is slightly bitter.
      hope this help.

    Nicely done. If the flow is slow after the latter filters, how about ditching the UV stage? Say, hav the prefilter, sediment, precarbon, and UF only. Let the output water drip into a tank. Or fit those RO pumps after the sediment filter (and before precarbon); then u can hav the UV at the end, and a flow restrictor after the UV.

    This is a very nice solution. Thanks for posting. Could you please provide the Amazon/Ebay link for the motor you have shown in the video ? Also, is the filtered water directly drinkable without boiling ?

    • @brielleofearth5701
      @brielleofearth5701 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The water should be potable directly after going through this purifier. The first two filters will remove particulates like heavy metals and this water is considered "filtered" (almost safe to drink). Make sure you use a GAC or RO carbon filter to remove nasty man-made chemicals like PFOAs [2]. The UF and UV steps are considered "purifiers" or "disinfectants" which kills any remaining bacteria or viruses [1]. The addition of the UV light makes this purifying very robust since UF filters can filter down to 0.001 microns [2]. For reference, the COVID-19 virus is about 0.12 microns across.

    Queries:
    1] any disadvantage pf replace ply with a steel plate/ sheet cutt to same dimensions.
    2] the connections of UV adapter looked dangerous as water may splash, any risk to humans or equipment or better to have them semi-closed in a plastic housing?
    3] all our life we were told the chemical properties of activated charcoal wear out with tie and then that six months or N litres of water is what needs replacement. you mention 12 to 18 months for UF and carbon?

      +Spock * thanks for the suggetion. Here is the answer to your quarry-
      1) you can use steel plastic or ply doent matter. I used ply bcoz i have ply.
      2) connection to uv must be properly seald with electrical tape. Though There is no direct water contact to the joint, but coution must be taken.
      3) considering small family of 2 -4 mamber and average consumption of water per person 12month -18 month is mention. As the water usage increases filters must be change in 6-9 month or 3000 ltrs of water

      thank you so much Stuti ji/team for meticulously taking the time to respond.
      noted and will definitely try this once i'm in hometown.
      might use acrylic sheets (like in bathroom to keep tooth paste/brush) to try and 'box' the parts with the wiring or electical junctions/machines.
      3000 litres.. with say 2 litres minimum for cooking/washing and two two litre for drinking for a family of 3-4 gives us 8-10litres per day.. so got it now. 300-365 days.
      i assume it will depend on the size or brand of those parts too. thanks again
      [the suggestion was, because even though i know english, as a lay person i often paused to read or rewind, as humans.. a voice.. even robot voice feels like hmm some ease or connection]

      pre-filter unit and mineral cartridge can be added in the same way as others.pre filter should be added as the first stage while mineral cartridge as the last stage.

    Thats great.. have you tested the same for borewell water or do we need any additional steps to be done

    • @howtoStuti
      @howtoStuti  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Raghavendra T this purifire is suitable for tap water ( low TDS water). borewell water contains high salts ( high TDS water). you need to add RO mambrane and high pressure pump for borewell water purification. you may use this purifier for borewell water but salts will get deposite inside the purifier resulting in low efficiancy or complete choking of purifier.
