😍 Absolutely gorgeous!!! My elephant ear experience has been up and down. My Borneo Giants are the only consistently huge plants. They are taller than the edge of my house and keep going and going. Jack Giant, Thai Giant, variegated elephant ear, an regular uprights can all sometimes be large in stature and other times be downright tiny. And I live in South Florida! My caladiums get 12 inch or large leaves and sometimes dwarf the elephant ear they are supposed to be accenting (particularly the laughably small variegated elephant ear). Honestly, I think it's hit or miss. Yours are outstanding!
We use the stalks as cuisine ingredients in Vietnam, making soup and noodles.
Love my Giants in Zone 6. I just dug them up for the Winter. So many babies this year. Thanks.
Very nice very strong plant. Survives the (greek athenian) winter in the balcony. The bigger the pot, the bigger the leaves. Have two of them. Love them!

I am overwintering this plant in my bedroom. Does great. I have read that you can eat the stems and seeds.

You always show growing plants how about explaining what to do with just the bulb. I have bought several bulbs and the first one rotted now I have another one I would like sucess with this one. I live in Zone 10 SW Florida

I live in central Florida and planted 4 upright elephant ears last spring and they got extremely huge. During the winter they started sprouting several flower pods, and now that we are in the growing season, the ears on my plant are mush smaller than they were even when I planted the young plants last year. I'd like to know if I'm supposed to cut the plant way back so that it will grow all new this year, or if its normal for the leaves to be so much smaller this spring. The plants get regularly fertilized by my lawn care professionals. The trunk has grown quite tall, the leave last year were easily 4' or more, and all of the new foliage are no more than 12". I can email a picture of last year's size compared to this year if that helps.
They prefer to be cut back at the end of the growing season and will sprout new growth rather quickly.

They like a lot of sun. My are struggling because they don't have sun. In their native setting, they like to be growing at the edge of freshwater, like ditches or ponds, in blazing sun.
In Southeast Asia this plant is grown to be eaten or used for herbal purposes.

I just got one of these in the mail and I noticed that it has some small yellow spots all over the leaves what the cause of this

I'm just curious to know, how fast will a 6" Thailand giant will grow in just one season? I'm not really trying to buy baby plants that will take 2 to 3 years to get up to a nice size.
To become a fully mature plant will take 2 years in the north. 1 year in the south. They grow fast but here in CT we don’t have a long enough season in the garden before we have to lift them and bring them in.
Thanks for your reply. So what type of fertilizer do you recommend for this plant? Will regular lawn fertilizer work, or is that type too strong for the Thailand Giant? And by the way, I live in Dallas, Texas. I just bought and planted a 15 inch Thailand Giant. The temperatures in the month of May here in Dallas (which is zone 8) range from the low to mid 80's during the day - low 60's at night. But as soon as the month of June sets in it hits the mid to high 90's. I'm keeping this plant in bright shade. I think the direct sun light here in my region would scorch it to death.
Probably a generally flowering plant or garden fertilizer. Lawn fertilizer is usually really high in nitrogen. We grow in full sun here in New England, but they will grow under lower light.
My neighbor takes them into his basement during the winter and throws them under an artificial sunlight (florescent type) in a pot with a perlite and finished compost mix. They handle full sun no problem in the north.
The 1st time I needed good plant advice I came to you. Well, I'm coming to you again. I am noticing that a lot of on-line plant sellers are all starting to sell the "Jacks Giant" elephant ears, but here's the problem...they don't all look the same. How can so many plant sellers be selling the same "Jacks Giant" elephant ear when they all look different? Just out of curiosity, could you please direct me to a site that has an actual picture of a REAL "Jacks Giant" elephant ear so that I will not keep buying the wrong plant ?

Is there a species of Elephant Ear that grows very tall with small Ears?Us? I had dream about last night.Do you dream about plants?Hahaha
Those are the best kind of dreams! There's the alocasia that's a different species but tends to be a little taller with smaller leaves.
So many here in our City mountain area in Philippines , we are just cutting it away in our back yard cos they grow anywhere and faster, we don't know that the plant is really expensive. Now it is demand but our government protecting it in order for this plant not to be endangered.
