The thing is, that “soft-voiced person, full of love” is actually the exact opposite. His questions are textbook definition of passive aggressive. Notice, those loving questions make Artie look horrible and exploit one of the darkest places he’s ever been, while in John’s mind, make him look/sound concerned. John is a transparent unfunny, unintelligent, unemployed piece of garbage. He deserves everything bad that comes his way.

There are such a tiny amount: Patrice, Pryor, Louis, Attell (although you're right, not that funny off stage)....and not that many more. The traits required go beyond just being funny, you need an acting/showmanship ability that goes way beyond that. But Artie is easily one of the most naturally funny people alive.
So John's a social justice warrior, and when he had enough money to live anywhere he wanted in SoCal, he chose the place nicknamed "Calablackless". Makes perfect sense.

I loathe SJ but really love Artie he reminds me exactly of a friend whom I grew up with and suffered from the same behaviors. He had a heart of gold like Artie does.
The only thing John ever did well was breaking trust and revealing supposed secrets on air during the Stern show. He has never been any good at anything else.
John is not a comedian. A real comedian does spots and is always writing and working on new material. John spends his days getting blackout drunk, waiting for some dumb club owner to book him based on the Stern show, only to sell 20 tickets and watch John tell the same awful dad jokes he has been telling for 20 years.
How John somehow landed himself in the company of people like Artie and Cumia etc I'll never know. He has no understanding of the dynamic between comedians. He doesn't know how to read a room, often steps all over a punchline or a setup, has no ability to riff and generally lacks all comedic instincts. He and Jackie are two people who, because of circumstances, found themselves in the company of people they are completely unqualified to banter with.
Don't compare Jackie to John. Jackie has 10 times the talent, can laugh at himself, and is likeable. John is just a talentless, overly-sensitive, scumbag.

How John somehow landed himself in the company of people like Artie and Cumia etc I'll never know. He has no understanding of the dynamic between comedians. He doesn't know how to read a room, often steps all over a punchline or a setup, has no ability to riff and generally lacks all comedic instincts. He and Jackie are two people who, because of circumstances, found themselves in the company of people they are completely unqualified to banter with.
