Atlus games are always interesting to me because it seems they were responsible for publishing some of the most obscure and unique stuff out there, especially in the late 90s and 2000s.

Never heard of this game before, but I like the sound of this exp system. That ending sounds like they really wanted to do what Sting successfully pulled off with the Dept. Heaven series. Except, you know, Sting isn't a typical company and trying to copy them isn't always the smartest move.
This was the only srpg game that was able to get me hooked back in the day because of it's game mechanics and visuals. Most games in this genre at the time had pretty basic gameplay graphics and visually usually just focused on cutscene artwork. This game looked good in both departments, heck..even the menus looked gorgeous. Also the game became even better after I found out I could turn off the opera singer cut-scenes in between each move.
Yes! You're back! You saved me some time. Was thinking about playing this but beyond the art style, the gameplay looks stale. A well thought out review. You should check out Drakan one of these days. It's a great hack n slash RPG lite that would be a great palate cleanser.

I've been playing through the Saturn library in order of North American release date but I had to jump ahead and play a couple later Japanese releases to keep my spirits up. This game looks very interesting, I see shades of the modern Fire Emblem series, SMT, and Dept of Heaven.
I loved this game when I was younger, I had the soundtrack that came with it and was heavily inspired by both that and the art and design. It's so nice to see it getting *any* attention!

We got plenty of translated Simple2000 releases that the USA never got, but they probably cost a pittance to licence. Games like this are what prompted me to get my hands on a SwapMagic disc back in the day.
Great review, if I could recommend a game for you check out it would be Front Mission 4. It's a turn based isometric mech game with a great story and great characters, catchy OST also.
I’m kinda jealous that you can get gas station hotdogs for 50 cents in the US. Judging by how much our McDonalds “dollar menu” shit costs, I could get a lot less than 160 hot dogs for ~100 CAD.
For sure, to be fair though, Sheetz is pretty exceptional in this regard, most places don't have a deal like that in the US and Sheetz is only a northeastern chain
This game is so freaking slow oh my God. If I didn't know anything worse than this game, like Stella Deus, I'd say this is borderline FBI torture instead of straight up digital cancer.
okay if you want a actually good j/trpg to wash eternal poison out go look at disgaea hour of darkness if you havent it brings up some interesting ideas and questions. also its funny and fun as heck
