Splitgate is such a great game. Played with a dev yesterday and he literally started off in the lobby stating if there are any bugs or suggestions let him know and he will write it down. Great team even though its only 4-6 people
I mean I feel like from a game design perspective your supposed have map awareness and mobility so you don't stand in front of a portal wall, but that's just my idea
oh god the portal campers... Yeah it's frustrating, it just takes time to get used to and deal with them, using the grenades to eliminate even an unconnected portal can do wonders for yourself and your team

The most recent titles, Diabotical and Quake Champions, never managed to break the ice with newcomers despite being well executed Arena FPSes, and Unreal Tournament 4's development was dropped in favor of Fortnite. Still cool that Splitgate managed to make a comeback tho! It's interesting how just releasing the game on consoles suddenly made it explode in popularity. Don't think classic Arena FPS could do the same though, as playing them with controllers is a pain in the butt :c

Kinda a shity answer for ya but i guesse it all depends, Alot of variables go into what makes or breaks something. But i think it will do alright if they keep on it.
This game always feels like you're playing bots, no matter how far into the game you are. Occasionally though you get some crackhead gamers that are everywhere on the map at once and unhittable

Most accurate statement I’ve seen about the game. Almost all the games I play (no matter the mode) I have a 15 kd but then occasionally this crackhead doesn’t die once and he headshot snipes me cross map 10 times in a row
yeah i got the game yesterday and every game for like the 6 fucking hours i played id get like 35 kills it was insane, i thought it was bots but then they started talking and i was still destroying everything. i only played 1 match where it was even and it was quite a shock to me at first lol.

I'm not a big shooter person these days, but the TTK looks spot on for fun times. It's not like COD where if someone even farts at you, you get spawn camped by the entire US air force for 15 minutes. But it's fast enough that you can kill people really fast with well placed shots. Character movement is just floaty enough that a mere mortal could actually hit people as they are sailing through the air... but just fast enough that you still have to get good. Kinda gives me OG Tribes vibes. Gettin kills on enemies in the air just feels so good. And the portal looks like a really fun mechanic. It really gives the player options in terms of being able to actually outplay your enemy by using your brain instead of simply relying on twitch shooter skills.
Ya usually when there t enemies around, I already have the purple portal ready, then I place the yellow portal, then I go around the portals, it’s confusing since I shoot then disappear in the portal then come back behind them, I picked up this game so quickly honestly

I feel like the only thing that could stop this game from reaching an insane eSports fanbase is the speed of play. The portals make it super fast-paced and might be difficult for the casters to track an encounter, firefight or hold a perspective for a while. But I really hope I’m wrong, this game looks amazing and I’d love to see the eSports for it boom
But I think it will suffers like what Overwatch did. It feels so good to play and that's the problem. You simply just wanna play yourself rather than watching someone else play.
Pace of play isnt and issue for commentators or casters. Rocket league is a good example, by the time a caster tries to say something 4 other things have happened. And if you're in the Caster business you should be able to assess and describe at any speed.
If you haven't already, join their discord. Also from what I've seen on said discord the 19 hour wait (if you aren't exaggerating) is wayyyy longer than what it should be so try restarting the game (although its painful to do).
This game looks really fun. If only I didn’t have to wait 2 hours to simply log in every time… Update: The loading times have been drastically improved recently making them way faster than at the time I posted this comment.
Splitgate has a lot of potential if they update it more, the mechanics and movement are already amazing. The servers on the other hand, are a different problem…

For anyone who wants to complain about everhthing about this game, just know this, the game was only made by FOUR people and the devs even said some of their devs were sleep deprived trying to keep the game running smoothly for the og devoted players in the game. The game got put back in beta so that they could make huge revisions to the game, its in beta testing for console guys, you cant expect everything to go smoothly , be patient. Its only a 6 man team of devs at splitgate rn and the game is already funner than games like fortnite. Unlike companies like activision, bethesda, and nintendo, splitgate aka 1047 games actually cares about there players. And they cant just "increase servers" its not as easy as you think. They are working on improving the game quicker than ever so be patient.
This game fucking reeks, I prefer playing old games from the golden age of video games such as Doom 64 and GoldenEye those were good games that I unfortunately didn’t get to witness in it’s prime. Yeah, the sudden explosion of new players was too much that the wait time on que can almost reach an hour lol. Still, once you get in, the game is really fun. Its rare to get a game thats inspired by Halo's gameplay these days.
This game just feels well made. Even matchmaking. I’m up to level 25 rn and must of my games have been decided by just a few points. Some guns are a little over powered but they’ll iron that out quickly with how fast they’re growing in popularity

Only now realising that this is just halo and portal. Always loved halos gunplay so I'm glad to see it inspiring other games. There's just something so satisfying about the pop you get from headshots.

Ppl who say this game is confusing are dead wrong. Portal is one of the most simple puzzle game concepts out there and halo is also a very widely understood arena shooter. This game combines the two how is that confusing.
I think the thing that makes it hard to understand is only your portals you can see through which I get cuz I imagine multiple portals on the map would just kill frames
Imagine professionals playing this game....being able to cover 90% of the map with portals and angles should make for some pretty intense pro gameplay. It's not as complicated as Fortnite building, however I think the potential to elevate gameplay is just as high imo.
You hit the nail on the head. In the higher ranks, there's default "paths" using portals to power weapons on the maps. So what ends up happening is that you "block" a default wall with your own portals and coordinate with your team to still get to the power weapons. All while juggling the gunfights, the two emp grenades that close portals, trying to flank your opponent with triple portaling/watch out for flanks, etc. Shit gets wild and if a solid ranked player base stays in the game it'll definitely have esports potential.
Agree with Charlie on this one, for atleast half the video I had no clue how the portals were working but it was still pretty fun to watch. Now part of it was Charlie himself but the game does seem pretty damn fun to me.

I've just returned to the game in 2022 after not being on since this video was uploaded. I remember it being pretty fun and telling myself that I should go back to it eventually. I honestly couldn't remember why I stopped playing it in the first place. Well, it's pretty dead on PC like it was back then. Won eight or nine games in a row and just decided to turn it off. Tried it on PS5 and it's still pretty lively, surprisingly. Maybe it has to do with the time I'm playing. I really hope they can bring it back because it's still up there as one of the most creative and fun FPS MMO shooters available.
I'm so glad this game is finally getting the attention it deserves. It's so much fun, it was so underrated for the longest time, almost dead player base for a really enjoyable game.

It's not an Arena FPS. It's much closer to the arcadey modern military shooter genre like Call of Duty and Halo than that of Quake and Unreal. Developers have tried to bring that genre back, both indie and AAA, but gamers just rejected them every single time. There hasn't been a truly successful Arena FPS since Unreal Tournament 2004. The most recent Arena FPS games, Diabotical and Quake Champions, are struggling despite being well executed games. Before that there have been Xonotic, Toxikk, Reflex, Quake Live, Warfork, and many others, even mods for popular games like Open Fortress for TF2. None of them managed to retain a healthy player base, and Unreal Tournament 4 was dropped in favor of Fortnite because that's a game that actually makes money. New games like Master Arena and Open Tournament are in the works, and will probably not do well either. What does that tell a developer or publisher except to stop making this genre as it's financially not viable? Even Splitgate was looking like it's gonna fail, its sudden explosion in popularity seemed like a total accident, similiar to how Among Us suddenly got popular despite having been a thing for a few years before. It's gambling with money basically. It really sucks to be an Arena FPS fan :c But still nice to see Splitgate getting popular. Just wish people would stop calling these games arena shooters when they're not arena shooters. It's taking the name of a great genre that's already neglected and slapping it onto something else. The ultimate disrespect for a great genre of games that desperately need more love :c
Good thing about this game is no over the top sliding and cheese drop shots, and no maximized loadouts and weapon builds, just skill and the potential of outplays
It's just, things are perfectly built and maximised for every single engagement, and you have to grind for those too, but in split gate, is just well, everyone has the same gun, no maxed out rate of fire gun that wins every engagement just because of the gun, it's all a matter of skill
People rely on their custom guns and high end loadouts, and those new players get stomped and it kinda puts a cap on new fresh players, unlike splitgate or halo styled games in general that just use a set style of guns, and plus sliding just turns split gate into a cod game with portals or even titanfall 2 with portals
Glad splitgate is getting the attention it deserves, also this game has been since 2019, so yeah their marketing work really well they basically re launch the game as a new one and seems is attracting lots of people
Don't let the queue times for this game cloud your judgement. Get in queue and go do something else, something IRL or on another monitor. This game is 1000% worth the queue time.
This game can really become the next big thing if they do these simple things: *Listen to it's community *Don't fill it with micro transactions (unless it's purely cosmetics) *Update regularly with logical changes and improvements *No skill based matchmaking *Stay true to it's core gameplay and not try hard to be like other games (for example, adding a useless BR mode) *Have a zero tolerance for cheaters and have strong anti cheat mechanisms

Also, since I suppose you can't read, there is a difference between sitting waiting for a match, and the queue to enter the game. Since you probably don't know, the game currently caps at a certain number of players so that the servers don't overload. THAT is what people are sitting and waiting for. The matchmaking itself takes less than 30 seconds.

If you reset your game it sometimes can skip the queue with certain players. Works for me every time

to be fair its a really small dev team and they didnt expect the game to get as big as it did so fast. they're trying their best with what they have.
they've only had like 100-200 people online for the last couple years and they're a small team. It'll get better with some time
Once the full game releases they claimed that they will heavily increase the server cap and remove queues.

For anyone who wants to complain about everhthing about this game, just know this, the game was only made by FOUR people and the devs even said some of their devs were sleep deprived trying to keep the game running smoothly for the og devoted players in the game. The game got put back in beta so that they could make huge revisions to the game, its in beta testing for console guys, you cant expect everything to go smoothly , be patient. Its only a 6 man team of devs at splitgate rn and the game is already funner than games like fortnite. Unlike companies like activision, bethesda, and nintendo, splitgate aka 1047 games actually cares about there players. And they cant just "increase servers" its not as easy as you think. They are working on improving the game quicker than ever so be patient.

This is one game that even when im not doing too good, im still having a blast and cant even be mad. The portals are super fun to use and always make big plays that much more entertaining.
Its funny how people underestimate Charlie's gaming potential he's an absolute beast at anything and everything.

In a game where mobility is important like this (or titanfall) controllers are absolutely outmatched by m&kb based solely on the fact that you can’t aim and jump/fly at the same time.
I use paddles to help with this, makes it much fairer but they are very expensive

Yeah, the sudden explosion of new players was too much that the wait time on que can almost reach an hour lol. Still, once you get in, the game is really fun. Its rare to get a game thats inspired by Halo's gameplay these days.
This game just feels well made. Even matchmaking. I’m up to level 25 rn and must of my games have been decided by just a few points. Some guns are a little over powered but they’ll iron that out quickly with how fast they’re growing in popularity

Only now realising that this is just halo and portal. Always loved halos gunplay so I'm glad to see it inspiring other games. There's just something so satisfying about the pop you get from headshots.
And the actual good hip fire for cowboy nuts. Non-ads on a sniper headshot kill always feels superb.

Ppl who say this game is confusing are dead wrong. Portal is one of the most simple puzzle game concepts out there and halo is also a very widely understood arena shooter. This game combines the two how is that confusing.
I think the thing that makes it hard to understand is only your portals you can see through which I get cuz I imagine multiple portals on the map would just kill frames

Imagine professionals playing this game....being able to cover 90% of the map with portals and angles should make for some pretty intense pro gameplay. It's not as complicated as Fortnite building, however I think the potential to elevate gameplay is just as high imo.

There are already tourny's. Everyone in them are absolute cracked gamers. It looks crazy, i would suggest looking into it
You hit the nail on the head. In the higher ranks, there's default "paths" using portals to power weapons on the maps. So what ends up happening is that you "block" a default wall with your own portals and coordinate with your team to still get to the power weapons. All while juggling the gunfights, the two emp grenades that close portals, trying to flank your opponent with triple portaling/watch out for flanks, etc. Shit gets wild and if a solid ranked player base stays in the game it'll definitely have esports potential.
This would actually be interesting, fortnite building is extremely boring to watch and has zero action until someone messes up.
It's a way better mechanic for making the game actually interesting and keeping it fast paced

I've just returned to the game in 2022 after not being on since this video was uploaded. I remember it being pretty fun and telling myself that I should go back to it eventually. I honestly couldn't remember why I stopped playing it in the first place. Well, it's pretty dead on PC like it was back then. Won eight or nine games in a row and just decided to turn it off. Tried it on PS5 and it's still pretty lively, surprisingly.
Maybe it has to do with the time I'm playing.
I really hope they can bring it back because it's still up there as one of the most creative and fun FPS MMO shooters available.

It's not an Arena FPS. It's much closer to the arcadey modern military shooter genre like Call of Duty and Halo than that of Quake and Unreal. Developers have tried to bring that genre back, both indie and AAA, but gamers just rejected them every single time. There hasn't been a truly successful Arena FPS since Unreal Tournament 2004. The most recent Arena FPS games, Diabotical and Quake Champions, are struggling despite being well executed games. Before that there have been Xonotic, Toxikk, Reflex, Quake Live, Warfork, and many others, even mods for popular games like Open Fortress for TF2. None of them managed to retain a healthy player base, and Unreal Tournament 4 was dropped in favor of Fortnite because that's a game that actually makes money. New games like Master Arena and Open Tournament are in the works, and will probably not do well either. What does that tell a developer or publisher except to stop making this genre as it's financially not viable?
Even Splitgate was looking like it's gonna fail, its sudden explosion in popularity seemed like a total accident, similiar to how Among Us suddenly got popular despite having been a thing for a few years before. It's gambling with money basically. It really sucks to be an Arena FPS fan :c But still nice to see Splitgate getting popular. Just wish people would stop calling these games arena shooters when they're not arena shooters. It's taking the name of a great genre that's already neglected and slapping it onto something else. The ultimate disrespect for a great genre of games that desperately need more love :c

First game I’ve enjoyed in a solid year, first multiplayer game in a few years, what a fucking incredible concept with AAA level execution
Good thing about this game is no over the top sliding and cheese drop shots, and no maximized loadouts and weapon builds, just skill and the potential of outplays

It's just, things are perfectly built and maximised for every single engagement, and you have to grind for those too, but in split gate, is just well, everyone has the same gun, no maxed out rate of fire gun that wins every engagement just because of the gun, it's all a matter of skill
People rely on their custom guns and high end loadouts, and those new players get stomped and it kinda puts a cap on new fresh players, unlike splitgate or halo styled games in general that just use a set style of guns, and plus sliding just turns split gate into a cod game with portals or even titanfall 2 with portals
I played this game months ago when it was dying. I loved it but couldn’t find a lobby. Im so happy to see it making a huge comeback!

This is the game you saw in TV shows or commercials that you knew didnt exist but always wished for. Crazy teleporting, huge maps, super sci fi.
This game can really become the next big thing if they do these simple things:
*Listen to it's community
*Don't fill it with micro transactions (unless it's purely cosmetics)
*Update regularly with logical changes and improvements
*No skill based matchmaking
*Stay true to it's core gameplay and not try hard to be like other games (for example, adding a useless BR mode)
*Have a zero tolerance for cheaters and have strong anti cheat mechanisms
skill based matchmaking is a good thing tho? we don't want a pro in a lobby full of new players

Also, since I suppose you can't read, there is a difference between sitting waiting for a match, and the queue to enter the game.
Since you probably don't know, the game currently caps at a certain number of players so that the servers don't overload. THAT is what people are sitting and waiting for. The matchmaking itself takes less than 30 seconds.
