    Biofilter is for nitrifying bacteria to live in that basically feeds on ammonia and nitrites and the end is nitrates, this is the nitrogen cycle. Nitrates is the end product of the nitrogen cycle, plants and waterchanges are used to get rid of nitrates. There is some bacteria that feed on nitrates but they are usually only in very established ponds. Great video and I'm glad it's step by step it's given me some ideas for my new filter I'll be making 👍

    I random have this on as background noise while I design a 4,000 gallon tank. I love how he has a concept and is just going for it. It sounds about like what I am doing right now.

    You're so fucking hilarious I can't stand it. Absolutely entertaining to say the least. My fav, is your pop up corrections of yourself. Awesome , simple, yet genius concept that works like a dream. I've done a much small scale for aquariums but I'm considering building a pond and been surfing for ideas. This is one that has caught my attention the most, and it's really simple to accomplish.

    I like it a lot thanks for sharing I do have a question on the air cleaner design when you have the air running to clean the material you don't think it will mix all the different size gravel up? Just curious.i might go with some light defuser in between the different layers. But over all just a great setup. 🙂💯👍✌️🤘

      It’s been a while but as I recall since the bigger aggregate was at the bottom it had no effect on the distribution or media in the barrel.

      Paul Dersch thanks Paul. If I could go back I would add a bottom drain. But the fish are still healthy and growing two years in and the water is clear.

      that bottom drain was the only thing different I did from what you did...Thanks again your video was the MOST helpful

    Hi, thank you for the information. It is very useful. But one information I am looking for. Does barrel size or tank size make an effect according the pump power? My pump is 6500 litres per hour and my filter barrel is 25 litres. Will it work ?

    • @MattsGarage
      @MattsGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Divya Miaow hi I think you need a 50 gallon / 200 liter barrel for your filter. The pump seems big enough.

      From looking at poo plants and other filter ideas like vortex 10% volume of pump flow good start

    Awesome stuff!!! What makes the water crystal clear? Is it the bigger the pump? or the bigger the bucket? Thanks for the info...

    • @MattsGarage
      @MattsGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the rocks in the big barrel that polish the water. It's still clear two years later with regular backwashing of the filter.(opening the bottom valve)

    How’s the filter and fish doing ?

    • @MattsGarage
      @MattsGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jesse James they lived and thrives for three years. Worked perfectly. I sold the fish and filled the pond because we needed that are of the yard for a new septic, but the system worked great until the day they were picked up by a fellow koi enthusiast!

    Loop that air fixture instead the two dead ends.. We do the same thing in body sprays in showers.. Then you'll have equal pressure to all the holes..

    i would have used the smaller container as mech filter with sponges. Easier maintenance.

    • @MattsGarage

      MrTruthislight yeah, I had so many fish I needed a big filter. I sold many of them and now I have 6 left. They seem much healthier.

    Can you please tell me the size of the pump, air pump, mechanical filter barrel, biofilter barrel and uv sterilizer size for a 10000 liter high density fish pond?

    • @MattsGarage
      @MattsGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mehdee Hassan wish I could help. That’s way beyond my knowledge base. This was my first and only Koi Pond. I can say the general guideline is you want a pump that will turn over the volume of your pond in an hour.

    You don't need to describe it ahead of time. Describe it as you are building it. People won't remember what you tell them. I am off to find another better source.
