I started to participate in tournaments recently and for me, it is pure joy.
I know that the probability of me taking any high place is low, so I try to take every bout as an opportunity to encounter and learn from new people I haven't fought before.
This mindset sets me up to be as good as I can without being too stressed.
    Hope it might help somebody.

Massively appreciate this video, especially as someone still dealing with anxiety within a HEMA environment. I've found that taking up a different martial art (Kickboxing) has let me relax my footwork, which has helped that 'frozen in spot' feeling. Some relaxed sparring the other day actually went well!
Also reminding myself to breathe and compose myself during sparring has helped. Just need to rely on the training, the community and keep working on the anxiety :D

It is crazy you mention it. Many ignore how good developing other areas involved is , which is something not easy to do by sparring only. As in your case, kickboxing allowed your body to go further physically.
If your body can not perform as you have it in mind, because of physical limitations, getting anxiety is a possibility.
Probably the best idea about how conditioning helps is to think about fighters in the past. They endured long fights, carried an armor, walked for long, etc.
Even other professional athletes in different sports get into other activities themselves to progress further.
Maybe swimming could take your breathing to a new level. I would suggest you getting into mewing, it also promotes breathing capacity development in the long run, the effects which are substantial by mewing can take years, despite anyone being able to breathe better since the very beginning with a right technique. I would suggest you getting into the Orthotropics channel for that.
Do not expect to find information for effective body functioning, they are more focused on health and aesthetical development. But no doubt you can still improve your breathing and anything else related to it pretty much.
I'd like to eventually in the future make my own content here on TH-cam about this, but it is not that easy because of time availability, not to mention you can also struggle to find the right people to work with and to document the progression on video for it to be shown is not easy at all.
I actually coach people about it and so far these years, coaching at times for free, many have quit. Just like in anything the best results take its own amount of fair time.

I completely agree that some dose of anxiety is needed. I used to compete in kickboxing, and my best fights happened when I was really nervous before. In contrary, when I lost anxiety, I fought some of my worst fights, it was just sign of burn out. I hope that I will be really anxious throughout my hema adventure :D

Hey Federico, do you know why most Italian HEMA tournaments don't submit their results to HEMA Ratings ?

Sorry it's a bit unrelated with the video, but well it's a question about tournament haha

@@frenchgalloglass5204 don’t ask me why. I have zero medals on HEMA ratings and even not considering medals at least 3 quarters of finals really fought hard missing.
I even tried once to ask “please put this on HEMA ratings” as a personal favor… Didn’t worked out XD

@@FedericoMalagutti yeah but you have a very good rating on HEMAGON haha it's a new thing which also has a rating.
It seems russia, turkey, Italy and a few other countries use HEMAGON but not HEMA Ratings, and it's the opposite for the rest of the world, it's a bit silly. Maybe everyone should use both ^^
When you asked for an event to be added to HR, and it didn't work, they didn't give a reason ?
