I had that same bike, great bike at the time. But if you plan to ride fast on the road modern electronics can definitely save your life. Pro racers with way more skill than us always say how necessary the newer electronics are for liter bikes. Most modern TC systems would have saved him, worth the extra cash for sure.

What caused the crash? Too much lean angle and going to quick. Its pretty simple what it was. No way did he see that pothole so saying he was trying to avoid it is wouldn't have seen it as it was too far around the corner
Ya, Max is beyond ignorant. He's not a talented nor intelligent rider. He also would have high sided if it were him swerving outside to avoid the tiny pothole. These dudes are pretty smooth brained if they push their bikes and abilities on roads that they don't have memorized.
His line was wrong. He went wide while at max lean, tried to bring it back, overcame the available grip and lost the front. Adios. Glad he didn't hit the guard rail and will live to ride again.
Agreed. It looks like he was also accelerating on the throttle when he tried to lean back into the corner, transferring too much weight off the front tire, causing the loss of grip.

So etwas passiert leider zu oft wenn man in einer großen Gruppe den Anderen etwas beweisen möchte. Ist hier in Deutschland nicht anders. Ich hoffe dem Fahrer geht es einigermaßen gut ohne innere Verletzungen und das er sich wieder komplett erholt. Hoffentlich ist es ihm dann eine Lehre und er macht solche Manöver nur noch auf einer Rennstrecke und trainiert. Gute Besserung.

Dadurch verringert sich die Aufstandsfläche und dadurch der Grip. (Luft dehnt sich aus und auf einmal hast du evtl. 2,9 bar vorne und 3,6 bar hinten ) Auf dem Video sieht es nach einem warmen Tag aus und wahrscheinlich war die Asphalttemperatur auch hoch. Auf der Rennstrecke fahre ich, je nach Wetter, z.B. einen Reifendruck von 2,1 bar vorne und hinten 1,8 bar. (im kalten Zustand gemessen) Aber bitte diese Werte nicht blind übernehmen, sondern die Werte vom Reifenhersteller nehmen.

Damn my screen froze to load just as he got off to find his friend and all I saw was the cross from a former wreck that must have took a life. The cross in the middle of my screen. That hit me hard. And of all the palces he wiped out it was right there in the same spot. Talk about a profound, heavy moment. Im glad he's alive... and the following is only meant to lighten the mood of the incident, but yall may have to give him the name dusty now. I'm so glad your alive and still with us brutha. Two days ago I had a very bad crash in road with my streetfighter ducati 1098 prepared. I lost the rear tyre and immediately after the front tyre before a dangerous curve. I past throw two street signals that can kill me at around 100 kmh and finish in a deep ditch (3.5 meters of dowm level with street) with one meter of dead water and mud, finishing with my body under the bike underwater and only my head out. Only a big hit in my left shoulder (the right damaged in an other crash three month ago and not still recover), in chest, in neck, in left knee. God look me and decided to give me another chance. Now I am in bed for recoveey. Bikes are amazing but deadly. I am now reconsidering my passion. Perhaps only circuits and a Harley for roads. If you love speed, go to the circuits, not public roads. I started riding not too long ago. When I was out and about with the car, I never noticed all those crosses on the roadside. I sure notice them now. It's eerie when I concentrate like hell to get fast corners right to see there were riders before me who's life came to an end in these very curves. So glad he missed the guardrail!!
He's lucky the group saw the dust cloud. I know those mountains quite well. Lost friends to crashing down the side of them. Those roads are not made for those speeds. Glad he's here to share his story. Ride Safe my friend.
Going too fast, is the cause. I agree that his body position could have saved him, but if he had better posture he probably would have gone even faster. People have a tendency to try and find the limits. Clayton surely did.
Forget the bike it’s so dope he got to walk out of his crash site. I’m so glad to see that this wreck didn’t take him. I remember my ride in the meat wagon because they were not able to land the bird. Not fun but we all know what we sign up for when we throw our legs over the bike. In too hot and as he tried to catch his line (the shallower one) he dipped towards it and exceeded the lean angle (for the conditions) losing the front tire Low siding at this point saved his life.
honestly we don't have this type of rescue in our country we can't afford to drive this fast and risk so much, once it's a serious accident it's over! Happy that he is ok and able to ride back again.

Glad he's alright. But people really shouldn't use public roads as race courses. They are talking about the guardrail and how he was lucky he didn't hit it. Well that is why you take it to the track. No obstacles to hit. No cars to run into. No poles, trees, boulders or cliffs.
Common sense logic, what you say is true. But that particular road beckons high speed drivers routinely. Sports bikes, sports cars, every weekend good weather allows has people pushing it as fast as they go. It's easy to say you simply shouldn't be speeding, but that neglects they very reason they are there, to push things to the limit for full speed adrenaline. He let off the throttle causing the front to dip at tht angle and speed upsetting the suspension. Survival reaction realising he carried to much speed into the turn or evading the pothole or he just wasn't in his comfort zone.
You don't ride like that at the track. Dude should book a track day with an instructor and learn how to ride a bike cause he's doing everything wrong lol.
Riding at the track you're leaned way off the bike so that the bike can stay more upright. When it's more upright the suspension works better and can absorb those bumps easier. He was sitting more upright instead of being off the bike and way down low. What he was doing was actually correct for the street - being up higher so you can see more of what's ahead of you is right, but his speed was not at all right for the street or for his body positioning. I like to go fast too, but I save the bonkers stuff for the track and ride mildly spirited on the street. You just can't predict what's coming well enough on the street to justify the balls-out riding like that.
bunch of clueless bikeless people in this thread. Tracks are #1 expensive #2 far #3 not always allowing in your specbike. Closest track to me is 300km away and one day there amounts to around $1500 on average (entry, wear and tear, tires, gas, transportation there, no hotel) Unless youre super rich you will be able to afford it maximum of once a month. Nobody buys a bike to enjoy it once a month. Put it like this, going to track every weekend means that in 5 months you would've been able to buy a brand new 1000 supersport bike.
The question at the end what fo you think cauesd this crash, simple answer...speed, if you like speed, go to a track, keep knocking on the devils door eventually hes going to answer. Heal up and be well.
Definitely shows the front sliding out I guess the tyres were warm. In New Zealand we have signs on corners to show a safe speed in bad conditions. It goes to show riding hard how easy it is for a crash to happen. This is why Isle of man is dangerous at least I think he missed the rail. Luck of the draw where you end up. Hoping for later update on his condition and his bike. Guy Martin had a huge crash in the TT and asked not to cut his leathers. You never really know his injuries normally it good to leave him in the same place until help arrives. Talk to him making sure his breathing is good make sure no concussion. I can imagine the group was cruising a bit more after that
What caused this crash was 1 - Bad body position, you have to focus on leaning the body and getting the bike away from the ground. He could've most likely completed that turn with proper body position. 2- Body position 3- Body position 4- Obviously going way too fast and confident with no knowledge on how to lean properly.
Thats why in Germany our guard rails in corners have additional rails under the standard rails, so that are no poles left shown to crash into. These can clip your leg right off. Doesn't make the rails safer than sliding a good amount of distance on flat surface, but maybe in some cases safER.
Pothole didn't get him, he never saw that pothole. He was pushing beyond his skill. Dude wasn't ready to ride that road that hard. Nearly died for it too.
As a person who was in motorcycle crush there was two great signs 1. he was somehow conscious 2. he could have walk appreciate to helicopter and everything which I didn't have that! since I hadn't suitable suits, my case was so hard that for first minute I was struggling to breath, remain conscious (cause I knew if I pass out in this situation either I will die or end up in a coma) and just try to remove people around me which is a long story to explain!
I think it’s body weight. It’s probably harder to not slide out when you’re a 6’+ 230# guy going 100 at 20° knee downs. Being that top heavy just makes it easier for the bike to kick out, especially at 100. There’s a reason why professional riders who perform those maneuvers are 5’3” 115# and Shaq does not.

Exceed bike lean angle , too low Brake usage in the curve, coming in hot Only open throttle when you see your exit in a straight line Never gas mid curve or brake IMO!!
this is the only right comment. never front brake in a corner, especially on supersports which are designed to reach important angles. anyways you can safely apply some rear brake to fix trajectory, speed or angle, everybody needs to master this skill. be soft and modulate rear braking. have fun, take courses and never exceed.

I think this sentiment is the truth. It's easy to know how to ride to avoid a crash, but that's not why those guys showed up that day. It was to push it out to the limit and experience the ultimate, all while knowing death knocks at every corner.
I think I crashed in a similar way, but on a racetrack. I was right at maximum speed /lean angle for a certain corner, and then just closed the throttle a tiny bit - boom, there went the front tire. I think I can hear the revs drop slightly in Clayton's case too. Could also be a bit of dust on the road of course. But a great relief he's ok!
At this point the only constant in my life are max wrist crash videos. No matter what happens, no matter what year it on this earth there will always be a new crash video.
Great to see you helping. Nothing against roadracing, but not from the start, needs really hot tires to go that fast. I personal drive at first with normal speed, not only to look for the police, but although to see the condition of the road. Full throttle only at the 2nd pass.
Wish people would not let a rider move after crash. Helmet should stay on and he should try to stay still until medical arrives. He is still in shock and adrenaline pumping but could have internal damage. Getting up and moving can be fatal. 😢

I think the crash was causes by a combination of being on the gas with a slight input to the steering and the front tire got overloaded, there is only 100% of grip, not 110%.
So much I want to say here from a medical stand point. Number one rule do not move him unless in cardiac arrest. Wait for the paramedics. Stop any major bleeds. Do not give him anything to drink or eat. Make him comfortable. Wait for Paramedics. Simply moving him can cause permanent spinal injury. Wait for Paramedics. Please take some basic F/A courses so you are prepared. It might save a life. 👍

In too hot and as he tried to catch his line (the shallower one) he dipped towards it and exceeded the lean angle (for the conditions) losing the front tire Low siding at this point saved his life.
honestly we don't have this type of rescue in our country we can't afford to drive this fast and risk so much, once it's a serious accident it's over! Happy that he is ok and able to ride back again.

Well that is why you take it to the track. No obstacles to hit. No cars to run into. No poles, trees, boulders or cliffs.
Common sense logic, what you say is true. But that particular road beckons high speed drivers routinely. Sports bikes, sports cars, every weekend good weather allows has people pushing it as fast as they go. It's easy to say you simply shouldn't be speeding, but that neglects they very reason they are there, to push things to the limit for full speed adrenaline. But if you play with fire you (may) get burned, proof cited above. God bless.
This is a real sign to give up with these high speed races like he was in a real circuit cause there s no safety zones in real roadway.
He let off the throttle causing the front to dip at tht angle and speed upsetting the suspension. Survival reaction realising he carried to much speed into the turn or evading the pothole or he just wasn't in his comfort zone.
check body position - cheek off but upper body fighting opposite so he pushed the bike down too far.

You don't ride like that at the track. Dude should book a track day with an instructor and learn how to ride a bike cause he's doing everything wrong lol.
Riding at the track you're leaned way off the bike so that the bike can stay more upright. When it's more upright the suspension works better and can absorb those bumps easier. He was sitting more upright instead of being off the bike and way down low. What he was doing was actually correct for the street - being up higher so you can see more of what's ahead of you is right, but his speed was not at all right for the street or for his body positioning.
I like to go fast too, but I save the bonkers stuff for the track and ride mildly spirited on the street. You just can't predict what's coming well enough on the street to justify the balls-out riding like that.
bunch of clueless bikeless people in this thread. Tracks are #1 expensive #2 far #3 not always allowing in your specbike.
Closest track to me is 300km away and one day there amounts to around $1500 on average (entry, wear and tear, tires, gas, transportation there, no hotel) Unless youre super rich you will be able to afford it maximum of once a month. Nobody buys a bike to enjoy it once a month.
Put it like this, going to track every weekend means that in 5 months you would've been able to buy a brand new 1000 supersport bike.

Definitely shows the front sliding out I guess the tyres were warm. In New Zealand we have signs on corners to show a safe speed in bad conditions. It goes to show riding hard how easy it is for a crash to happen. This is why Isle of man is dangerous at least I think he missed the rail. Luck of the draw where you end up. Hoping for later update on his condition and his bike. Guy Martin had a huge crash in the TT and asked not to cut his leathers. You never really know his injuries normally it good to leave him in the same place until help arrives. Talk to him making sure his breathing is good make sure no concussion. I can imagine the group was cruising a bit more after that
What caused this crash was
1 - Bad body position, you have to focus on leaning the body and getting the bike away from the ground. He could've most likely completed that turn with proper body position.

Thats why in Germany our guard rails in corners have additional rails under the standard rails, so that are no poles left shown to crash into. These can clip your leg right off.
Doesn't make the rails safer than sliding a good amount of distance on flat surface, but maybe in some cases safER.
Pothole didn't get him, he never saw that pothole. He was pushing beyond his skill. Dude wasn't ready to ride that road that hard. Nearly died for it too.
As a person who was in motorcycle crush
there was two great signs
1. he was somehow conscious
2. he could have walk

I think it’s body weight. It’s probably harder to not slide out when you’re a 6’+ 230# guy going 100 at 20° knee downs. Being that top heavy just makes it easier for the bike to kick out, especially at 100. There’s a reason why professional riders who perform those maneuvers are 5’3” 115# and Shaq does not.

this is the only right comment. never front brake in a corner, especially on supersports which are designed to reach important angles. anyways you can safely apply some rear brake to fix trajectory, speed or angle, everybody needs to master this skill. be soft and modulate rear braking. have fun, take courses and never exceed.

I think this sentiment is the truth. It's easy to know how to ride to avoid a crash, but that's not why those guys showed up that day. It was to push it out to the limit and experience the ultimate, all while knowing death knocks at every corner.

I think I crashed in a similar way, but on a racetrack. I was right at maximum speed /lean angle for a certain corner, and then just closed the throttle a tiny bit - boom, there went the front tire. I think I can hear the revs drop slightly in Clayton's case too. Could also be a bit of dust on the road of course. But a great relief he's ok!
At this point the only constant in my life are max wrist crash videos. No matter what happens, no matter what year it on this earth there will always be a new crash video.

Great to see you helping. Nothing against roadracing, but not from the start, needs really hot tires to go that fast. I personal drive at first with normal speed, not only to look for the police, but although to see the condition of the road. Full throttle only at the 2nd pass.

Wish people would not let a rider move after crash. Helmet should stay on and he should try to stay still until medical arrives. He is still in shock and adrenaline pumping but could have internal damage. Getting up and moving can be fatal. 😢
What caused this crash. Excessive speed, no recce, fast group ride, maybe poor maintenance of tires, poor risk management, just to name a few.

When you try to show have fast you are on the street and this is usually what happen sooner or later. He seem like a mature gentleman but still riding like that is not very responsible. He’s a lucky man that day. Keep it at the track

I think the crash was causes by a combination of being on the gas with a slight input to the steering and the front tire got overloaded, there is only 100% of grip, not 110%.
Glad he’s OK. Hoping he books plenty of professional track instruction next.

So much I want to say here from a medical stand point. Number one rule do not move him unless in cardiac arrest. Wait for the paramedics. Stop any major bleeds. Do not give him anything to drink or eat. Make him comfortable. Wait for Paramedics. Simply moving him can cause permanent spinal injury. Wait for Paramedics. Please take some basic F/A courses so you are prepared. It might save a life. 👍
