makes sense, Norwegian and Japanese has a lot of similarities when it comes to the pronunciation of vowels and consonants
I use to make Mackerel stew, which I serve with rice.
1-2 onions (depending on size and taste) is chopped and fryed in some oil with
1 teaspoon pepper.
Add 2 tins of tomatoes and 2 tins of beans (I usually use white beans in tomato sauce, but any will do),
3 tins of mackerel in tomato sauce, 1 teaspoon curry powder, and salt it to taste. Cook for 5-10 minutes.
This was a favorite with my children when they were small.

I also hate the fact that people say that Kvikk lunsj is Norway`s version of Kit Kat: Because what they don`t know, is that Kvikk Lunsj was made a year before Kit Kat was made. So Kit Kat is actually America`s version of Kvikk Lunsj...

Macrell in tomatosauce has even another nickname. At least when and where I grew up in Norway. It's called Flykræsj (Planecrash) because it's looks like an accident. :p Pretty popular in Norway, but not to many people from outside of Norway, I have seen love it. Then tend to hate the smell. Most norwegian kids have grown up with this, and are used to the smell and love the taste of it.

Samiakk is NH4Cl, and can clean the tube in the wc concentrated. Eating this your shit get softer. The right way to consume this, is to let it melt in your mouth

But seeing those are some of my personal favorite snacks I wanted to see your reactions, I love Salt Sild myself and prefer the Salmiak Fisherman's friend. :P Glad you liked some of other stuff though, and i figured you might like the macrel. yeah the salmiakk flavor has a similar kind of enjoyment to spicy foods. i really did not like it for the longest time but i've taken after my pops and i cant get enough of the stuff now

To get makrell i tomat, try the norwegian sailors church in Kobe I think it is. Not sure if they are still there. If you visit, make sure to taste the waffles there too.
In Norway we bring kvikk lunsj when we're out hiking :)
As a Norwegian this video (and part 1) was very amusing to watch! I love watching videos of people from other countries eating Norwegian snacks. So far I've watched Americans, Brits, Australians and I think Germans? But these was by far the most entertaining ones! I also think that in most cases you did a good job pronouncing Norwegian words. ^^
i'm vietnamese and growing up my dad bought a ton off makrell i tomat and just smashed it in a bowl off rice for a lazy but enjoyable breakfast. (Live in norway)

Also the Smash commercial states this, and I have to agree; "It's close to impossible to eat only one" - "Det skal godt gjøres å spise bare én".
Norway has a very long coastline with long fishing traditions, and one major aspect of this is that we've always salted and dried the fish to preserve it. When doing this, it develops a very salty taste, which has made Norwegian diet very salt-based, and made us enjoy salty foods more than usual. The ammonia taste is similar to salt, so we've grown used to that as well.

Important info: Kvikk Lunsj isn't like a Kit Kat, it is the ORIGINAL that Kit kat copied! ;) It is much older! And much much better too!

KitKat came in 1988 while kvikk lunsj came in 1937...

Oh dear! I just watched this and your previous Norwegian snack one. "Salmiakk" is named after a common, ammonia based, floor soap. I believe, here in Norway, we love to share really strong flavours even if they hurt a bit, like the salted herrings and salmiakk mints. This is not because we think they taste good per se, but because it is fun to share the experience. However, I am so glad you liked our chocolates and our tomato makrell!

Hey! They did a test in Norway when it came to * Makrell i Tomat* and it had the exact same nutrients as fresh Mackerel, the sauce does of course increase the carb count a bit but its very healthy and tasty! One box a day is enough omega 3 as well:)

HT C just one portion of fish( rich in fat like salmon, tuna or macerel) three or more times in a week will give you all the omega 3 you need macerel in tomato juice is great on bread, hot potatoes, pasta, rice, you name it or just on its own I like to musch/squash it with a fork as much as possible before spreading it on toast almost like its a paste
HT C its really cheap and comes in small and big size containers. I keep a bunch of them in the house and for camping and lunch. Its great on rice and just as is!

I think a reason in some places like Norway the chocolate bars are so big is because chocolate is so popular there because there's a lot of dairy farms in that area and also it's probably because of that more economic to produce - hence, they come bigger.

You know how pregnant women sometimes get cravings for inedible stuff? It's apparently something related to iron deficiency, called pica. Anyway, when my wife was pregnant she wanted to eat brick, plaster and chalk. She knew that wasn't wise, and wouldn't of course, but she had cravings for it anyway. Knott became the solution. It's sufficiently chalk-like in texture.

Yoshiko Yeto there's a lot of them because that stuff is EVERYWHERE here. They even have ice cream with it in it!!! 🤢 my Norwegian husband adores it but it is straight up from the bowels of Satan lol. You cannot even imagine how salty that ammonium salt is. It's like all the salt from the oceans in one candy lol
We have Tongari Corn in Norway as well, it's just named "Sombreros" here. It's available in most countries under completely different names, they're originally from America, where they're called "Bugles".
Knott is a candy I always buy when I'm at the movies.

Norway have a bread culture similar (but not identical) to the German one and that is what we eat the macrell with.
A very common thing for the Makrell i tomat is to have mayo on top (just a touch).

Hello Shinichi and Satoshi! The mackerel in tomato sauce looked really tasty, and there was so much wonderful chocolate! The salted licorice looked very difficult. I've never had it. Even though I like regular licorice, it is hard to imagine it. I think I probably would not enjoy it. Thanks to Tommy Sovik for all of the Norwegian treats! The white knott was actually used to cure stomach pain back in the days(when it first got out or something), and doctors actually adviced people to use it😊 If it’s true or not, I don’t know but there is many story’s about it here in Norway🙈 And I’ve tried it, it actually helps🙈 But just the white ones!

I dont know about everyone else, but we only buy the big chocolate bars for holidays...christmas, Easter or at other times when you are having people round. Sometimes when we go skiing or hiking. I never buy the big ones just for me and we do have a lot of them I smaller sizes too. Even in mini single serve bars 😉 a fun fact is the Kvikk Lunsj is the official chocolate that most people bring when the go skiing or hiking.

Most of the big chocolate bars come in smaller sizes too. The big ones are usually advertized as being "family sized", so you can break them in smaller pieces and serve in a bowl to family or other visitors. Off course a lot of people get them simply because they want a huge chocolate bar. :P

Just in case you didn't find the mackerel in Japan yet, Kaldi stocks it in the tinned fish section, by the sardines and that! Around 400 yen for a tin. I bought it for my boyfriend and his family in Osaka and they all adored it. I wish you got to try some other specialties that suits a Japanese palette as well, like Svolværpostei, Kaviar, Makrell i Salsa, and Varmrøkt Laks. If you can get your hands on these, I can't recommend them enough!

They also have mackerel in spicy tomato sauce and even sweet and sour sauce now. But I like the traditional one in tomato sauce the best. I like to put mayonnaise on top too, but that's just me.

Stabbur-makrell, or as many Norwegians (including myself) call it, makrell i tomat, is superb! I frequently have a slice of bread with makrell i tomat and a little dash of mayonnaise for breakfast. SO yummy!

If you want more of that mackrell you can go to "sjømannskirken" or sailor's church it's like a norwegian store/church for norwegians abroad that are pretty much in every county. They probably sell it there👌
Cool vid guys! Nice of the Norwegian guy to send you stuff, but much of it was candy that not many Norwegians even buy, like Lakrisbåter, Knott, Nero etc. It was also unnecessary with all the chocolate bars, because they're basically all the same with some different bites in them. The normal, plain "melkesjokolade" bar without any bites had been enough to show you what they taste like. It's cool that you liked Makrell i Tomat, the fish in tomato sauce, because many people from other countries thinks it's awful. I guess it has something to do with the japanese tradition for fish :)
As an Asian born in Norway I couldnt help but laugh when you guys were gonna try the Salmiak and salt sild, because as a child, when I first tried it I got the same reaction. Im not a fan of salt sild but I can handle Salmiak..sometimes.

I found an import store in Nagoya that sold the Norwegian mackerel in tomato sauce. So it is obtainable in Japan, but it was really expensive!
mackerel in tomatosauce, in norway we just call it "planecrash" or "Dead man in a box" lol :P but i really like it too, it is healthy to eat as well, it is most common to eat it on a slice of bread with some butter, some use majonaise on top as well, but i have not heard of someone eating it with rice or as dinner, i would not recommend eating it hot :P
I think mackerel in tomato is sold in every country, its just not that common maybe. And as you say, you can actually eat that for breakfast, lunch and dinner cause its very healthy ;)

Now I'm very curious about those salty licorice snacks. I may have to take a chance and order them from Amazon just to try. When I was a kid, I used to love eating these salted dried plums my mother got at Chinese grocery stores. My friends tried them and immediately spat them out.

Salmiak is a throat lozenge. It is Ammonium Salts that agitates the throat to cause viruses to get spat out of the mouth. Briesling sardines would be nice to send. Good job, Tommy.

Knott was a childhood favorite of mine. I was surprised at the strong reactions to it.. it's not that intense. I love all that salmiak-flavored candy.. Lakrisal, Fisherman's Friend, Tyrkisk Pepper..
Too bad you didn't get any Walters Mandler chocolate (it's in Freia's Melkesjokolade series, those lovely 200g bars). Otherwise I'd say this is a pretty good representation of Norwegian candy.

I eat the makrell in tomato for dinner or on it's own too. I tried it with rice and potatoes, and maybe macaroni, the rice worked best. I don't know any other Norwegians that do this though. I don't know if anyone would even try it..
Funny video, guys. Maybe a slightly too large selection of choclate. And Salt sild is by no means the saltiest snack in Norway. I‘d love to see you guys try out some Dundersalt or Tyrkisk peber 😄
