wow Wow WOW WOW - one of my all-time favorites, Pet Clark, what a voice, & now to be able have it in stereo & HD is a dream, beyond superb, you are a MASTER Kenn, thank you
A true stand out in the 60's. I loved this song even as a little kid and you've just made a great thing better. I always hear notes I've not caught before and it gives the song more life.
Mis feliciaciones por el trabajo tan majestuosos que realiza para recuperar estas joyas musicales .en verdad valoro su trabajo ya que usted contribuye a que mi coleccion musical sea cada dia mayor gracias
The story she always tells is that when Tony Hatch visited her in her apartment looking over the Bois du Bologne in Paris he played her songs from other writers he had gathered in the U.S. and England for her to record in English and she wasn't really taken with them so she asked for something he had written. He played Downtown but just the melody with one word repeated "Downtown".She told him if he could write lyrics to match his melody she would record it. He did, she did and the rest is history.
LOVE the extra drums & percussion you added to the left channel! Makes it perfectly balanced. Back in 1964 when this was recorded, they only had 4 tracks. The final stereo mix was what it was. Bravo sir! Excellent enhancements! Still love this song 54 years later!!!
This brings me all the way back to sixth grade, not that I was in sixth grade when this song was released. No, I had yet been born, but my elementary school music teacher loved this song and made our class sing it often. What memories!
I used to sing this when I was a little kid. Mom seem to have the 45 spinning on the record player frequently. Great hearing it again in the HQ recording.
This song NEVER sounded this good on my Julliete 6 transistor radio; even with the clear ear plug wedged in place. Thanks, Kenn! Deeply admire your work here.
I’ve ALWAYS LOVED this song and really love this enhancement through the earbuds! This song brings back early memories of my childhood in the 60’s and this remix does it justice! Thank you!
New Years eve, 1964/65, this song was just hitting AM Top 40. It didn't take long before it was a monster hit.----------------What a time it was, to be young, with all of life, ahead. ---------i was 18 y/o.-------------------------------Wolfsky9, 74 y/o
Always loved this song and what a joy it was to meet Petula and her husband in 1970. Truly a great artist. Perula got together recently with Tony Hatch and they made an extended versjon of Downtown and other songs. Also check out her album Ultimate Petula Clark. Many good songs.
Great with this one because remaking it does justice to it. Here in my hometown. For years they'd been trying to revitalize downtown. 50 yrs ago it was alive. When the shopping malls were opened across town. Then people stopped going to downtown. This song reminds me when there was department stores in downtown. When people would shop there. The good old days. This is a great song if there is still a downtown in your hometown.
That is exactly how I remember it in the 1960's. We had two toy stores in Pottsville that had the most amazing assortment of quality toys imaginable. My grandmother took me on a train to Pottsville, Pa. in 1960 and though I was only 5 years old I remember the people in the streets looked like it was New York City around Christmas time. Then they brought in 3 large malls in the space of 16 miles (plus a big Walmart) and downtown looks look like a borded up, run down has been of a city. We did not have all the fancy gadgets of today but we didn't need them either and the America was an amazing place. What other nation was nicknames 'AMERICA THE BEAUTUFUL"! Those in the baby boomer generation were at the end of that "Norman Rockwell" era which has been replaced with the abomination of political correctness, race wars, surveillance state, Jihad mad dogs, pedofiles, Satan worshiping monsters, LGBT and the whole swarm of decadent filth that has cursed this nation and turned American in a madhouse of mental illness!
cinematic35 thanks for replying to my comment & I do agree with you. I live in CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas & downtown isn't far from the bay. That's the tourist district & that's sad. Because CORPUS CHRISTI is known for being the sparkling city by sea. I do agree with all the other things you said. Thanks for sharing those things you said & have a wonderful day & pleasant weekend.
cinematic35, and now there is a large LIGHT at the end of the tunnel for the millions of people that have been LIED TO, CHEATED, and ROYALLY SCREWED OVER by the TOILET TRASH of the WORLD. This "book" has only been out for a few short weeks and has already LEVELED THE PLAYING FIELD for the disenfranchised and screwed over poor souls that weren't able to fight back! "Congratulations by Always Good" is THE "book" that needs to be RECEIVED by ALL of the BAD PEOPLE that have RUINED and HURT the GOOD PEOPLE! People that bought one copy are getting many more copies now that they know how POWERFUL this "book" has been for the downtrodden. NOW THE GOOD GUYS AND GOOD GIRLS OF THE WORLD HAVE A REAL WAY TO FIGHT BACK!!!!
Hey Kenn, I agree about 90% of what you said, but I think"and I speak for myself" this is why I listen to your enhancements. It reminds me of a day long gone by. It brings me back to a simpler time and place. I loved being a kid growing up on Long Island, the songs of the 60's &70's playing on a cheesy portable radio at Jones beach. Life was good before they started to add so many rules and basically outlaw fun. I think there are quite a few more who feel the same way. Keep doing what you're doing, we are all listening, and we all appreciate the flashbacks to better times.......Semper Fi my friend.......Tim.......hey how about How can I leave her by the Cyrkle.
Even playing this 45 record thru my audiophile Father's Garrard turntable, Warfdale speakers and McIntosh MC-275 tube powered amp & pre-amp (in 1965) this song never sounded SO good!
Lyrics: When you’re alone and life is making you lonely You can always go Downtown When you’re got worries all the noise of the hurries Seems to help, I know Downtown Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city Linger on the sidewalks where the neon signs are pretty How can you loose The light so much brighter there You can forget all your troubles Forget all your cares, so go Downtown Things will be great when you’re Downtown No final place for sure Downtown Everything’s waiting for you Don’t hang around and let your problems surround you There are movie shows in downtown Maybe you know some little places to go to Where they never close Downtown Just listen to the rhythm of the gentle bossa nova You will be dancing with him till before the night is over Happy again The lights so much brighter there You can forget all your troubles Forget all your cares so go Downtown Where all the lights are bright Downtown Waiting for you tonight Downtown You’re gonna be alright now And you will find somebody kind to help and understand you Someone who is just like you And needs a gentle hand to guide him along So maybe I’ll see you there We can forget all our troubles Forget our cares so go Downtown Things will be great when you’re Downtown Don’t wait a minute more Downtown Everything’s waiting for you
Would love to hear some of the Elvis songs from the 70's "Enhanced" - that is, the awful stereo where everything is crammed left and right and only vocals in the middle. Nice work - I love what you have done.
Musical picture book, the prefect of a prefecture; Idol magic in every second of its performance. Energy Star of a fine art status. Covid-19 is a sure thing, BAK
waHAPPEN to ALL MY VERB! WAAAAAA!. LOL.At 7yrs old, I remember thinkin"These people musta made this record in that big culvert under Guyan River rd."LOL. These old ears appreciate this mix though.!!!. The string ens. cuts the mix well.Piano and vocal much cleaner and dont get takin over by the drum verb. Thanks!
Kenn - Bravo sir another wonderful enhancement! May I stick in my own 'Pet' request if I may? 'I couldn't live without your love' with its soothing verses building up the that climatic chorus. A little piece of magic which I know you'll be able to sprinkle some tasty additions to!
This is the first of the Tony Hatch collaborations. It even finished when first present to Petula and so no one’s surprise, she did not initial like it.
It wasnt the first collaboration with Tony Hatch that was Valentino in 1963. Petula was having so many hits in France and its french speaking colonies and coupled with the fact she was no longer having hits in the UK, Tony Hatch persuaded her that she should record in English once more. She didnt like the songs he played for her, but when he played the unfinished Downtown, she knew it was the song she wanted. The rest is history
Nigel, you probably right. I use to be a huge Pet fan and used to watch her TV show regularly and my facts are probably a little muddled. Downtown was the first single I ever bought, the last one of hers being Don’t give up.
Lionheart Roar Apple Corps is in the process of releasing remixed/remastered versions of their albums-- the White Album in a couple weeks -- so I'm not surprised they don't want "fan versions" out there competing with the "official stuff." Most of the songs Kenn has done his tremendous work on are, not exactly forgotten, but kind of filed into the "oldies section" and not inspiring a lot of new commercial exposure. For most of those songs Kenns enhanced versions are terrific promotional exposure.
Always hated the large amount of hiss that starts with the piano at the beginning of Downtown. Even with 60's analog recording ability it didn't have to be this bad. Makes you appreciate the really good engineers and producers at places like Abbey Road Studios who were more careful about such things.
This song is beautiful performed by Petula I was born in 1964 & this a favorite to my Father He was always humming it! 😊
Thanks!!!!She had 15 top 40 hits from 1965-1968.Thank God for the British Invasion!!!!!
I love this women and her uplifting spirit.Don’t need to go downtown now.Just hearing this angel sing and talk about it is enough for me!!
Comme vous j'ecoute cet ange et j'en parle.
Bon dimanche à vous 😌

Cette chanson est formidable... elle me transporte aux belles années..
Merci

Thank you didn't know that, and I loved Jackie Trent and Tony Hatch song
@@teharipatene8135,
Y'all can hear the story straight from Petula & Tony themselves...

I've loved this record for a long time!
Such a beautiful singer..and good looking too
Prefect Recording! Perfect Song!
Love the separate mixes of the vocals and yes I love listening w headphones, where I can really appreciate your work
The ONLY way to fully appreciate Kenn WIngle's augmentations, additions & improvements!
Always one of my favorites. Thank you.
There are not enough words to thank you for this beautiful hearing gift. I'm Mexican but I love music in English. Gracias hermano.
I’ve ALWAYS LOVED this song and really love this enhancement through the earbuds! This song brings back early memories of my childhood in the 60’s and this remix does it justice! Thank you!
Listening to this takes ME downtown...thank you for this amazingly enhanced recording...the BEST I've ever heard!
My God she was beautiful, and she could belt em out
Gr8 song, gr8 singer, & gr8 version. Thank you.

You’re making me wish I was alive at that time 😥. I was born in 1990, and I just love all this 60s to 80s music and I wish I was alive in the 60s.
I still own the 45. Quite scratched up but even new it sounded nothing like this. Bravo!!
You did an EXCELLENT JOB!!
Again !!!
Always loved this song and what a joy it was to meet Petula and her husband in 1970.
Truly a great artist.

I remember first hearing this when I was a kid in Corning Iowa. I liked it then and I like it now, thanks to you. Thank you for doing these.
Really awesome sound!! Brings back a lot of good memories. Thanks
Kenn, I'm glad you share your talent with us. Your modifications are great.
RIP Kenn , You made my world a brighter place !
Wait he passed?
Back in the '60's, Petula Clark and Vikki Carr had me lusting.
I "discovered" Petula Clark, SO many years ago, thru this song.
Me also, at the tender age of 10.
Excellent. Thank you!
What a great song. Big hit for Petula here in Israel. Your mix Kenn is great. Thanks.

Thanks again for sharing seems that this particular song. Not only has sentiment but it seems that it has hit with a greater impact.
Have loved this song since day one and have been a fan of yours since discovering your site. Can't wait to listen when I have my earbuds!
I seem to be wandering in the soul of Petula Clark to spread infinity and immortal
You did a terrific job on an iconic tune that is a worldwide favorite.
This song always helped me figure out to do on rainy days .............pour1

Absolutely love this well done again!!
Lyrics:
When you’re alone and life is making you lonely
You can always go
Downtown
When you’re got worries all the noise of the hurries
Seems to help, I know
Downtown
Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
Linger on the sidewalks where the neon signs are pretty
How can you loose
The light so much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles
Forget all your cares, so go
Downtown
Things will be great when you’re
Downtown
No final place for sure
Downtown
Everything’s waiting for you
Don’t hang around and let your problems surround you
There are movie shows in downtown
Maybe you know some little places to go to
Where they never close
Downtown
Just listen to the rhythm of the gentle bossa nova
You will be dancing with him till before the night is over
Happy again
The lights so much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles
Forget all your cares so go
Downtown
Where all the lights are bright
Downtown
Waiting for you tonight
Downtown
You’re gonna be alright now
And you will find somebody kind to help and understand you
Someone who is just like you
And needs a gentle hand to guide him along
So maybe I’ll see you there
We can forget all our troubles
Forget our cares so go
Downtown
Things will be great when you’re
Downtown
Don’t wait a minute more
Downtown
Everything’s waiting for you
Tastefully enhanced. Too bad their original track was so distorted. Keep it up!
Would love to hear some of the Elvis songs from the 70's "Enhanced" - that is, the awful stereo where everything is crammed left and right and only vocals in the middle. Nice work - I love what you have done.
What a wonderful voice
Very Pretty Sounding Kenn , Well Done My Friend .
You made a very special song by a very special lady even better! Here’s to U!🥂
Awesome! Thank you for this...
좋은음악 잘 들었읍니다~감사합니다~🎵
This song was featured, several times, in the "Madmen" tv series. They were very good on their "period correct" details.
MadMen had some period flaws in the kitchens of some of the homes, some large appliances

Most excellent, sir! Any chance you’ll do her “I Know a Place” one of these days?
I need to get a Petula Clark CD so I have the rest of her hits then I can do more of her songs.
Kenn - Bravo sir another wonderful enhancement! May I stick in my own 'Pet' request if I may? 'I couldn't live without your love' with its soothing verses building up the that climatic chorus. A little piece of magic which I know you'll be able to sprinkle some tasty additions to!
I do have that Pet Clark CD and I pulled that song up to see what I can do with it. Sounds like a fun one to work--love her songs! Kenn
THE MUSIC ENHANCEMENT CHANNEL Great Kenn! Looking forward to it! It’s my favorite Petula Clark song ...
Very nice job, Kenn. EDB
Wow !!!!!
❤️
Petula also sang and released this in French.
This is the first of the Tony Hatch collaborations. It even finished when first present to Petula and so no one’s surprise, she did not initial like it.
Glad she didn't miss this bus..became her carreer defining hit

She loved itthe moment Tony Hatch played the first few bars Stuart
Tony Hatch was at that time responsible for her recordings, he and she chose the songs that she wished to record
Don’t remember why but I’m pretty sure they don’t like this in Nashville TN
One of the first songs I would karaoke to b4 there was karaoke
Such a popular song it was featured in a show about nothing.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Who’s here listening to this in 1896?
Big sound
Actuaba en Televisión Española.
Does it work w mono recordings to pull out individual instruments? Is that even possible?
What software do you use and can I use it w my Mac w Logic Pro?
How about "revolution" by the Beatles.?.it sounds like it's missing instruments when you listen to the stereo version.
Sorry no Beatles. I uploaded a bunch of enhanced Beatles and every one was banned worldwide!

I was a ten year old infatuated with Petula Clarke
Sound pretty good. But the piano could sound better.
Please make 8D version audio!
