    Hello! My name is Mitch and I am relatively new to the golf game! I began as a 25 handicap golfer a little over 2 years ago and have managed to work my way down to my current handicap of 10! My goal is to make it to at least a single-figure handicap as soon as possible and possibly even lower!
    My latest investment has been a SkyTrak golf simulator and launch monitor, so that i can improve my golf game at home and especially indoors during the winter months. On my channel you will find some helpful tips and tricks related to SkyTrak, as well as monitoring my progress out on the golf course. I will upload how to videos, comparison videos and also some all important course vlogs!
    I hope you enjoy the content and I especially hope that you find some helpful information from my experiences along the way!
    Please like and subscribe! Any comments, questions or opinions then feel free to leave them below and I will happily get back to you!

    I brought a really cheap led desktop lamp from IKEA and it sits above the SkyTrak lighting the ball and just in front of it. I have about 2 or 3 misreads out of 100 hits. Made a massive difference.

    I have only had my ST for 2 weeks and I love it. Your video has shown me some areas I didn't know existed, so thanks for that!
    I will be applying a similar practice regime in the hope of improving my game this year.

    Spin numbers will be always almost be lower hitting off a mat. Furthermore, none of us reading this vlog should be trying to compare our spin numbers to PGA Trackman averages. For crying out loud, they are pros using special balls (yes, they do not play the same ProV1s we use), using highly tuned equipment and hitting the ball center strike 99% of the time. Just get your spin numbers relatively close. So for example, my 6 iron technically should spin 6000 rpm. If I am within 1500 hitting off a mat, fine. I'm OK with that, so long as my strike is good and my shot shape is good (draw)..
    Mitch, I love your channel. Just great for us high handicappers. Keep it up, please! My only observation is this: if you look back at some of your older videos, and especially the ones taken outdoors, your swing seems significantly different. Take this with lots of grains of salt, because I am a very high handicapper. But it appears that your swing inside your studio is really abbreviated - both your backswing and follow through. This likely can't be good long term. Is indoor swing syndrome possibly affecting you? You do have a nice draw that seems relatively consistent. I wish I had that!
    I understand we play with the cards we are dealt. From your prior videos, that room is the best you can do for an indoor studio. I would just think about getting something set up outdoors if you can, at least when the weather is good in the UK, to try and get full swings in. As you know, bad habits are like a virus in golf. Once you get them, hard to get rid of.
    Thanks again. I know shooting and editing these videos is a lot of work. Stay safe and warm over the next few months!

      I’m with you on not comparing directly to the Tour averages Jeff, as you say it is more of a guide for us but those spin rates I were getting weren’t even close to the 1500 either side you aim for. So I wouldn’t mind trying a different mat or if anyone has any other tips I’d be willing to try them!
      I completely agree with you about my swing - it has definitely changed since I have this indoor studio. I haven’t been able to get out onto the course lately to find out whether it has impacted my real-life game or not. The enclosed space is tough to deal with and like you say I am doing the most I can within it - but hopefully it is working and not having too much of a derogatory effect. I will wait and see! I do still have the old enclosure so I could set that up outside when the weather improves 👍🏼
      Thanks for the nice comments Jeff it is appreciated ✌🏼

    Some great exercises . Just a tip perhaps you should narrow it down a bit . wedges on day and longer irons another day . Try to identify your weak point of the last round (of 18 holes ) and improve that.
    Training should also be fun so if that green is to hard to hit try a bigger on . succes = fun = keep on training

    Hi mate, great vids! Getting very tempted to splash out on a skytrak. how far away from the wall is your impact screen? Trying to think of a way of doing some kind of pull down/ roll up screen from the ceiling. Also how far back is your projector? Thanks for the content 👍

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My impact screen is about 12-16 inches away from the wall. The guide is usually about 12 inches away and you should be ok. My projector is about 5 meters away from the screen. You can 'short throw' projectors if needed (mine is just a standard one). You can use this website to help you calculate how far away your projector needs to be to fill the screen: www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm
      Hope that helps. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻

    Great video 👍🏻 when you do fairway finder you mentioned about using longest club possible.. obviously with a driver success rate will be lower what would be a good success rate with a driver ??

      Thanks, when I used to use driver I aimed for around 40-50% success on the fairways 👍🏼

    Got my ST coming next week so looking forward to this game improvement feature. Quick question, what is the spec of your pc, is it high end?

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is relatively high spec as I built my own gaming PC (here it is: th-cam.com/video/ERCx3eGgjwE/w-d-xo.html). But you dont need a high-end computer if you just want to run the SkyTrak software like the Game Improvement Plan. That will run on most basic computers and also on iPad/iPhone 👍🏻

    Hi mate, loving the vids! U are getting some distances out of ur irons! Did I here u say 145 for a 9i? Was that always the case? As I'd only get 130/135 at a push. U reckon skytrak helped here? Ie better strikes better distance. As I struggle with not holding my hinge long enough causing poor shots an lack of distance.

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Owning a SkyTrak has definitely improved my ball striking consistency without doubt. That was the one thing I noticed after 3 months of practice when I was able to get back out on the course. One thing SkyTrak does do is give you a reality check on how far you hit your irons on average. I used to think I was hitting 140 with a 9 iron every time until I got the launch monitor and realise that only happens 2/3 times out of 10. Then once you start striking the ball better like you say you often see more consistent distances. The 145 9i though is not a regular occurrence though for me. I have been working on a few of swing techniques and changes lately which I assume has something to do with the occasional longer carry!

    Hi do you have any ideas on 2 things please , first my skytrack reads all my shots really low like 16 yards is the highest iv seen and the thing seems to run really slow is that just not having a powerful enough laptop ? Many thanks

  • @jgmart1989
    @jgmart1989 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting spin rates. Might not be getting the full spin in the IR camera window. Your PW was only getting 2.5k to 4K. General wedge shots are probably 8k+. You might be getting more rollout than you should. Just a thought 😬

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have thought the same recently and checked my spin rates against the PGA tour averages from Trackman and they are nowhere near. I wondered if it was my mat? Or do you have any other ideas what it could be. I even cleaned my clubs properly before i made this video to see if that would improve the spin rates but it didn't make much difference!

    • @jgmart1989
      @jgmart1989 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hcpgolf there's a possibility your launch angle is high enough that it's not capturing all of the rotations in the zone. Try moving the ball an inch in front of the lazer and then take some swings. The ball won't go above the zone too soon and it'll capture more of the ball.. I also like to make an alignment line on my ball to help with the camera. You're hitting into a screen so watch out for marks from the marker.
      Let me know if it works! .

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will give it a try; I usually put the ball a centimetre or two in front of the laser dot for wedge shots but i will try it a little further forward and see if it makes a difference 👍🏻

    • @randomzero3
      @randomzero3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hcpgolf This might be really late, but the biggest factor for spin is going to be the ball you use. With a TP5 or similar, I get around 10,000 backspin with a 3/4 to full SW. Using something like a Callaway Warbird, the most I could get was around 6,000.
      Premium balls are pricey, but you can sometimes find deals and practice versions for a reasonable price. TP5 Pix are my favorite for Skytrak because you don't have to worry about pointing the logo.

    Oh man... I tried swinging in a space like yours...and it made me all tense/tightened up. No follow through at all because I had the feeling of hitting wall or ceiling. Moved it into my basement and walla. Very hard whenn you don't have free range of motion.

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree 100%. It’s tough and the thought is always there with the longer irons that you’re gonna hit the ceiling. I haven’t played much out on the course since I’ve had this setup, so I’m interested to see whether it has changed my swing much since I’ve been practicing indoors 😕

    • @NonnyStrikes
      @NonnyStrikes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hcpgolf It'll prob feel weird at first hitting off real grass. It did for me. But overall... trying to swing indoors provided valuable information about the clubface. I overcomplicated things way to much and seeing it without the outside environment turned my swing into something special. It's always a good thing when you know you can hit it pretty much anywhere you choose.

  • @per_growth

    Do you find ST to be left biased?
    Also, you seem to be hitting right of center of your screen (but the center line on the projected image doesn't seem to be offset) - and yet ST reads this as starting right at the center line with a slight draw. Is this normal?

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this video I do not have the centre line offset - but I am used to hitting in my sim room therefore I know where on the screen I need to aim my shots. I don’t find the ST left bias I think it is pretty accurate when determining my ball flights 👍🏼

  • @reidsistrs904
    @reidsistrs904 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would concentrate on the gapping, you look for 140 yards 9 iron but only hit your 6 iron 160 on average

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea, how would you work that then? Obviously there is the club mapping feature which would highlight this - but how do you think i should work on increasing 6 iron distance, just ball striking?

    • @reidsistrs904
      @reidsistrs904 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hcpgolf yeh do the mapping or just hit some 6 irons on the range and see what numbers you get. Interesting to see a video of it. I recently sold my Skytrak as numbers were nothing like on the course, I know hitting off mats affected the spin/contact I also had to change the altitude so my distances were closer to the real thing (GC 2 hmt) I now have the mevo plus and it’s by far more accurate. Great vlogs keep them coming.

    • @hcpgolf
      @hcpgolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sweet. Yes i will work on that then - i know a good 6i shot will go 170-180 so its just the consistency of strike it seems. I have recently been looking at my spin numbers and they are nothing like what they should be and i feel it is to do with my mat. So i am thinking of having a change to see if it makes a worthwhile difference 👍🏻 Ah great I would like to give the Mevo+ a try it seems like a great deal especially when you get some E6 golf courses included in the price! Thanks for the comments ✌️
