    I received my V10dx on 1/5/2023. Wonderful bass, great preamp and pickups and perfect construction and finish. Wonderful balance with the Hipshot tuners. The entire bass except the ash body is flamed maple. Fretboard, neck and top are all flamed maple and really flamey. The body is 3 piece ash. The 5 string has the carbon fiber stiffeners in the neck. The battery box is well made and works great and the electronic rear cover is wood. Not sure what type of wood but well fitted and everything is covered in grounding foil and conductive paint. Zero dead spots and the Abalone inlays are very nice and perfectly matched for color. The Jazz has the string bar vs the P-Bass with a string tree. The neck is a thin C shape and is asymmetrical with it slightly thicker on the top where the B string is. So the bottom of the neck feels slightly shaved. You can set these up with the saddles all the way down on the bridge if you add more relief but within the specs. I have mine set to minimal relief and the action is perfect for me, the saddles are very low on the bridge. The only mod I'm doing is Schaller gold strap locks (on order). Soldering in the cavity is very good and everything works as expected. The bass should work with any amp setup you have with the preamp. I have an Ampeg BA110 and Markbass CMD 103 and it sounds great on both amps. The metal knobs are way nicer than the plastic ones on the previous basses. The case is a very nice fitted case and the latches look like my Gator TSA case and has the aluminum edging as well. The case has a door covered compartment and outside edges a Gator doesn't have. My poor SR800 BIF hasn't got any play time since it arrived.
    Everything about this bass from the rolled edges, perfect frets, fit and finish is as good as any big name bass out there. There isn't a Fender or Ibanez I'd rather have over this bass. Maybe a US made Lackland or a German made Warwick or a Sadowsky might have slightly better electronics but the price is 2X or 3X+++ and more. You could swap out the electronics for anything you wanted and save big $$. Nothing in the Ibanez SR line comes close, even the SRMS805 doesn't have rolled edges and I had to file the sharp fret ends on my SR800. The Sire preamp is much nicer than the Ibanez branded preamp. Even the BTB1935 doesn't have rolled edges and again Ibanez electronics.
    I'd buy this bass again without a second thought.

    I own a Sire first gen and it's incredible, so I can only imagine how good this bass is. I would bet this bass can keep up with or surpass most any boutique Sadowsky type bass. Forget Fender, we already know this bass is more dependable in every way.
    I was kind of torn because Sire is headed towards the $2,000 price point, but as long as they keep offering their $300-$500 price point P,V, and M basses then I'm cool. Sire puts out one of THE BEST basses you can buy right now. It feels like a bass costing much more and offers a 3 1/2 band active EQ w TRUE passive bypass which is nearly limitless.

    I love what Sire is doing. My V5 is a killer passive jazz bass. But if I were going to drop $1,500 on an instrument it would not be a traditional j or p-style, no matter who makes it. It would be more like an Ibanez EHB. Something that has design thought from this century.

    Extremely superficial, but I'd consider getting any Sire much more seriously if the headstock looked better. Never had the chance to try one, and I think I'd enjoy playing it, but I can't get over the headstock. Same with D'Angelicos for that matter.

    Would you spend £1500 on the best instrument from an affordable brand, or £1500 on a lower-end instrument from a premium brand?

    • @Quante1123
      @Quante1123 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that’s a hard question, with 1500 pounds you’re in American performer territory. I guess it depends on what your needs are, if you need the active preamp and like the looks, man these are bang on. Me personally, I’m fine with a nice passive bass where I know it’ll survive rigorous touring and beating and not have to worry about batteries etc. Not saying that Sires won’t. The included case is nice though.

    • @roughcutguitars

      If you're thinking resale down the road, I think premium brand whatever holds its value. From my experience, no matter how well-built/appointed the affordable brand is you have to assume no one else will see past the name on the headstock.
      That's why if you're buying it to hold onto and play you have to go with the one that fits and speaks to you when you play it, which is made all the harder by limited availability and online buying options.

      I would say that depends on who you are but- absolutely. If I'm Les Claypool, then buying a 5G bass is par for the course and fully understandable considering I can make that back using the instrument in no time and with no worries. But- if I'm some kid who just started playing- or even who plays in a garage band- no, spending more than a G is silly and unnecessary. It's no different than guitar- it makes no sense whatsoever for me to spend 5Gs on a Les Paul- but it makes quite a bit of sense for Slash huh?

      They can for sure, but I don't think I ever could anymore. The only 1000+ (Euro) instrument I've ever owned is my Maruszczyk Jake 6, made to my specs. For any off-the-shelf bass, I find it hard to spend that much, except if it's something super specific that nobody else makes. For my needs, there is plenty of choice in the 400-800 range. I'm the worst at saving up for anything anyway...

      I get that. I also am completely over the over roasted maple necks. So many companies jumped on that looked and now I think it’s a cheap option. If Sire can offer that on a sub $500.00 bass it’s obviously not difficulty to to and doesn’t effect the neck stability. My charvel has a roasted maple neck and it’s probably the bass that needs the most attention at the truss rod. This could be the profile or the neck, it’s unclear.
