    I like this craftsman. He explains what he is doing and tells us why he is doing it. Just a heads up to the Allen Edmonds experience. There are many shoes that are more expensive than A.E. None of which compare to the quality workmanship that goes into the A.E. Shoe. In addition if you call the factory and request having your shoes recrafted, they will mail you a postage free bag. Place your A.E. shoes in the bag and mail them with your name, address, phone number. Explaining what you would like done. They will send you back your shoes and they will look close to new. Excellent company, great service.

      I did the Allen Edmonds recraft once. But what I found to be a better idea was to start a relationship with a local cobbler who you can personally talk to about the process. (I use Vinny from A1 Shoe Repair in Sonoma, CA)
      I have had a much better experience and with higher quality for a slightly less cost with a local guy.

    I learn something new from a customers prospective in each video. The information sharing really distinguishes Trenton & Heath from other fantastic shoe repair channels. The informative content that the channel provides educates viewers so they may be more inclined to use their local cobbler thereby supporting a local business in their community. I'm sure Trenton & Heath's level of transparency and quality have put you on many viewers short list! Great job guys! Side Note: The AE 1st Ave is a great boot and should never have been discontinued.

    Question?
    Are the holes in the welts a standard distance apart for all shoes? Meaning, do you ever have to adjust the stitch width on the machine to match to hole spacing on the welt to reuse the same holes?

    Hi Trenton & Heath. Always fun & interesting to watch you work on & restore boots & shoes. I loved the end result on this particular job. The boots really look great. Ok ne thing I wanted to mention - I think you guys should both wear gloves while using dyes, cremes, polishes, chemicals such as acetone, or any other type. (May over time be harsh on the skin...never know.) And I think you should both wear boots while working...instead of sandals, just to be on safe side.

    Trent, before restitching the new sole to the welt, you briefly discussed stitch color - the way you described it, I understood you to mean one could have one stitch color as viewed from the bottom (outsole) and another stitch color as viewed on top of the welt. Is my understanding correct? If so, can you elaborate on how this is possible?

    • @pcarrierorange
      @pcarrierorange 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many sewing machines use two different spools of thread to make their stitch. One spool feeds the top half of the stitching, the other feeds the bottom half. The top needle pierces through the material, bringing the top thread below the material, where the bottom thread can hook through it, before the top needle goes back up. This leaves the bottom thread locking the top thread into position. Googling “how does a sewing machine work” should pull up many animated GIFs illustrating the idea, and I figure the principle is much the same for fabric sewing machines and leather machines.

    How can we tell if a pair shoes/boots are candidates for repair versus replacement?
    I have great quality work boots (red wings), dress boots (real and fake gator/bird/snake boots) and leather dress shoes (with or without leather sole). None are more than $300 or $400 and I cant always tell if the stitch is real.

    I would love to know whether you recommend Dainite vs. Leather when one is purchasing shoes, obviously depending on the weather conditions of the purchaser. Still, I wonder if you would prefer one or the other, or whether you would recommend one or the other, for style, usability, etc.

    • @TrentonHeath
      @TrentonHeath  ปีที่แล้ว

      As you said, it’s completely up to the wearer and what environment they’ll be wearing them in. In rainy, snowy environments, I would definitely recommend rubber soles. In warmer climates, leather is going to be more breathable and cooler. It also comes down to aesthetics. For me, I love the look of leather on most of my loafers and dress shoes.

    Do you replace inside & outside of lower foot and restrech shoe leather on machine? How much would you charge for this service? I'm thinking of buying a used pair & have this restored as requested above.

    The resole service you offer always includes the change of the cork?

    What about the Cordovan leather Allen Edmonds with the leather from Horween? I've been told that the leather needs extra care and can't be polished the same way as normal cow leather...so i've sent my Cordovan leather pair back for a full rebuild of the sole, and rubber sole upgrade and for a full re-polish. lmk your thoughts

    Just found your channel couple of weeks ago, thank you and subbed! Two quick questions if I may - dainties soles, do they make the shoes/boots more waterproof? And what do you do after you applied Renomat, do you rinse it off or just wipe it off using wet cloth?

      M Sato Hi! Thank you for subscribing! Any rubber sole will be more waterproof than leather soles. It doesn’t necessarily make the shoe/boot more waterproof, but the soles will be. As far as the Renomat, I would recommend using a saddle soap to clean off the shoe after using it. If you don’t have a saddle soap leather soap, at least wipe them down with a damp cloth. I hope this helps.

    Back to the welts, did you say you could replace the welt need be, or must they go back to the A.E. factory for that? Thanks, good content!

    They put a rubbersole on my westernboots for more grip and they added a new stitch above the existing stitches. They are very ugly and bad quality. Can I pull them back out? Thank you

    Hello, love your videos. Informative and entertaining. I know it's hard to do reviews on every shoe brand out there, but up here in Canada we have Hartt Shoes from New Brunswick. They're only online, so I was wondering what your opinion might be, what have you seen regarding Hartt Shoes.
