  • (SOLD!!!!) Offered for sale is this incredible example of the legendary W123 sedan from Mercedes-Benz, a 1983 240D in excellent condition and with only 74K original miles. Finished in beautiful Orient Red and trimmed with palomino MB-Tex, this 240D looks, runs, and drives exceptionally well. It has been freshly serviced by our shop, and is ready for dependable daily driving or weekend fun. The AC is nice and cold, the steering proper and tight, the vacuum system works as it should, and there are no cracks on the dashboard or wood trim. The I4 diesel runs smoothly, and delivers all the power it is capable of. The 4-speed transmission shifts very well with excellent clutch feel. This car is clean. Phone us at (239) 273-1150 or (239) 263-8500 for sales information.

    Absolutely fantastic vehicle and condition! I am a proud owner of a manual transmission 1980 240D with 260,000 miles on it and it still runs strong. Yes it is a slow car, but the vehicle oozes character and has a soul.

    This is the most beautiful car I've ever seen. I regret that I've never owned a Mercedes-Benz Diesel, nor have I ridden in one as a passenger. But I've seen enough of them out there to know what they look like. I'd buy one if I could find one in decent condition. :)

      @tompaul2591 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Buy one, even if it is in rough shape. Easy to fix up, cheap if you do the work yourself, and parts are still around on ebay, etc.

      Jason Carpp Hey I bought one from this old guy down here in Longboat Key, Florida, and I'm telling you man, if you can find one on Craigslist or something, in decent condition, I highly recommend buying one. I'd take this car over a brand new Honda or Toyota or any new make for that matter. I'm dead serious, these W123 model Mercedes, if the previous owner maintains them well, will literally last you for a lifetime. Not an exaggeration at all Jason.

    I'm surprised Bill did not mention this was the last and final year, 1983, that the 240D was offered for sale in the United States. A real milestone and most collectable year to have of all 240D's. These were the most simplistic yet reliable of all the Mercedes Benz cars. As noted by other commentors, to see one with the manual transmission is also very very rare. You just don't see these in this condition anymore. Awesome car!

      Kenneth White:
      4 Speeds were very common on the West Coast...and Benz lost a lot of sales then to the Peugeot 505 Turbo Diesel...that came Standard with a 5 Speed overdrive and the 3 Speed Automatic with a highway friendly 3.08 gear. The supposed "bank vault" sound is just the rubber seals and pin-style door latch....which were known to fail if the car took a serious high-frequency impact. Even many cheap common cars of the day then had more structurally sound doors than the W123 or W126...which used the the W-123 front door cores including door surround weatherstripping
      Even back in the day....Car&Driver,Road&Track,Auto Week,Motor Trend all gave....even the bottom of the barrel (slow as hell, but quicker than a 240D ) $11,000 505 Straight diesel the winners trophy against the 300D,VW Diesel powered Volvo 240, and even the Audi 5000 Turbo Diesel. Ride in a 505 against all the competition (even against a 560 SEL or Jag XJS),ride is buttery smooth on all surfaces...the Benz W123 rides like a pickup truck regardless of speed......not to mention the intrusive road and engine noise of the: 240D, 300D, and Volvo against the much quieter Audi and Peugeot . It was all hype back then as it is now about Mercedes Benz "Quality".
      Although my high-school classmate's 300D Turbo Diesel could get a momentary jump on me (Peugeot had a tall 1st gear), my 106hp inter-cooled 2.5 505 Turbo Diesel would leave hers in the dust....not to mention very peppy when easily passing other vehicles going up Donner Pass in either direction in 5th gear. Her 300D lost steam shortly after launch....the revs just climbed away from the torque curve. She always thought it was funny, my car, which cost nearly $10,000 less than hers;was quicker and much quieter and with a better HVAC....not to mention got close to 40mpg at steady 60 mph...the days of the 55 MPH speed limit. If I remember correctly,Motor Trend observed 44MPG in their long-term test loops of the 505 Turbo Diesel....Benz (300D which only weighed 200lbs more than mine)could barely manage 30 MPG.
      The edge where the Benz W123 had over the 505 was the quality of and quantity of soft touch materials in the Interior,the 505 was disappointment compared to the previous 504...which was on par with BMW/Benz in the quality of trim materials in the Interior.
      A kid of the 1970s/1980s, 240Ds were the equivalent of a Ford Fairmont in quantity in our neighborhood...and most were always being driven or towed to the shop getting this and that constantly fixed and fixed again....climate control,bad injection pumps,worn steering gear stuff, busted York AC compressors,the list just goes on and on.
      Time travel to the ending of 2018, a neighbor of mine has a barf-ugly beige survivor 240D.....always under the hood or has some part of the dash/interior out,fixing this and that...oh what great German Quality. The rust that thing has gathered over the years....is funny indeed. Ole German slogan "Entrust in Rust".

    funny ... I now think it kinda cool that this tractor (oh yes. very "agricultural" driving experience) has wind down windows and manual tranny, though back in the day, had I been old enough, I'd never have bought it without power windows. Def not "cool" that it lacks a/c, and would not buy it for that reason.

    The tinted windows have the dubious honor of turning elegance into ghetto.

    • @Remembering-rq6si
      @Remembering-rq6si 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom Paul Tinted windows are ghetto. The owner may simply have poor taste. I don't care and I outgrew ad hominem many years ago.

    • @tompaul2591
      @tompaul2591 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yet here you argue. I was not looking for an argument directed right to you, just stating a difference of opinion or the reason for a functional part of the car. No worries though, you won't have to buy my car. It isn't for sale.

    • @Remembering-rq6si
      @Remembering-rq6si 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom Paul Dude, there are actual books on class. No upper-middle class person or above can get away with tented windows. There is a difference between rich and classy. Old money doesn't do this, trust me. Read Live for Success by John T. Molloy, Class by Paul Fussell, and the Official Preppy Handbook by Lisa Birnbach. Tinting the windows of a classic Merc should be a punishable violation of the law. It's analogous to painting a Pagoda with a spray can.

    • @tompaul2591
      @tompaul2591 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am middle class. I am not poor nor upper. I would also venture to guess that so called "upper class" people you speak of do not use the word dude to open a dialog. Class, like music art and beauty is subjective. The car looks nice to me. Also, I don't read books to get "class". I don't need to defend an opinion any more than my favorite group is better than yours, or my religion is better than yours, or any other trite item society argues over. I am not even a proponent of tinting per se, I simply stated a counter statement to your generalized accusation which has no merit. You can read your class book. I will continue with my life. Good day.
