I would make a mold of a tiny cylinder diner, not too large yet not too small. Fit inside the fully soldered and connected LM317 ballast. Use rubber insulated wire for the inputs and outputs. Fill the mold with resin, and wait for it to harden. To make sure the wires don’t screw up, use a thick set ceramic glue to cap off the wires going in and out, almost like that on flyback transformer pins. Then make a thin 3D printed case, fill it with a tiny amount of the same ceramic glue, and press fit it on. Put a nice sticker on it, and try to color code the wires.
Very useful tutorial! Recently I detached a laser diode from an old DVD Writer SH-S223. It's an open type diode with no glass protection. I'm using this schematic with LM317, the resistor is around 14 ohms, but the diode (in its original, though small, heatsink) gets hot after 2-3 minutes of work. Is this normal or I have to add more resistance? I'm using two 3,7V Li-ion batteries in series for power supply. Unfortunately I couldn't find diode specs anywhere to see its operating current.
That's cool I removed a laser from a laser disc player. the discs was as big as 75s . I mounted the laser in a cardboard tube with battrys. it would light up the clouds
Hi! I got inspired by your video and made one myself out of an old dvd. Mine does not burn But its bright as hell! I bought a Lm 317t chip and soldered it to the circuit, But i desited to remove it cause it got too weak. So i run it on 3 AAA batteries and no components. I hope that the diode dosen't burn out too soon! I dont now the point of this comment But thanks for the video!
What was the polarity on the laser diode? It's hard to tell from the video and I think I accidentally blew my diode from connecting it wrong. Also, if you know, is there a way to check if the diode is broken?
if you have a multimeter, most have a diode setting that you can use to determine the polarity of diodes/LEDs. it usually beeps to indicate that you have found the correct polarity. if it doesnt beep when you test both polarities, its broken
@@brendonlovejoy2376 Use Ohms range to see if it is still a diode, or has melted into a short circuit, or a wobble-bonded lead-in has fused open circuit. Always monitor the current using 50mA- 100mA range when playing around. If you connect it "wrong way round", unless the supply is much more than 5volts, no harm will come because no current will flow.
I basically had the same problem with my laser battery. Last month when I was on my way to the store, my car died so I got my multimeter out and I checked the voltage on the battery and it was 9.7378 Volts so I thought “what the heck is going on with this battery”, the next thing I knew I seen some smoke coming from the tips of the battery terminals. I was suspicious on what was going on and I couldn't believe it because this battery was only barely 16 years old which I consider fairly new in today's society, so basically what I want to do is try to clean up the battery with some soap and salt solution and then I might put it on the charger for two or three minutes at a high current rate just to see if it will hold a charge. I'm not sure if that's going to help the battery or not but one thing's for certain before I go out and buy a new battery, I'm definitely going to try these two methods that I suggested. Now on the other hand I could swap the battery out with one from my 1962 Chevy Tahoe but I'm not sure that my old lady would let me do that, so basically what I need to do is first, I'm going to check all the air in the tires before I monkey around with the battery. Then I'm probably going to run a few errands around town down and the next thing I want to do is get some paint and paint the battery terminals because I don't think they look very good without the neon yellow color look on them. If all goes well, I am planning to do a few other things to the terminals. Next after that chore, is get some of that distilled water and pour on the outside of the battery to try to clean up a lot of the dirt and dust its accumulated over all these years. If I have time what I'll do after that it's try to clean both sides of the mirrors on my 1965 Ford Bronco because I've noticed while I was driving that it's hard to see what kind of traffic is coming up behind me. I was having a problem with the battery when I put the headlights on low beam and then when I tried to switch the high-beam I noticed that the voltage excursions were jumping around so I went out and I bought another set of test leads to use on my digital multimeter and there was no difference at all, so I think I may borrow my friend Tony Jones's multimeter just to check those voltage excursions to see if that is normal. Nobody really explained to me how to test a DC voltage excursions when the battery is not in its prime. I am all on my own doing this. A lot of people have contacting me and they said that they've had that problem once or twice and maybe even three times in their lifetime with their batteries but they did something totally different. What they did was loosen the terminals first then they carefully remove the battery and hoisted it out to get rid of all the debris and dirt that's accumulated after all these years then they put it on a slow charge which I believe they told me was 32 milliamps for 6 days, 3 hours and 54 seconds. Next they took the battery caps off and added some distilled water, which they claimed that they bought it at their local Walmart store. I think, if I can remember correctly, they said it was .99 cents plus the sales tax. Can you believe that just 99cents? That's a real good price for one full gallon of distilled water. Speaking of water, yesterday I helped my neighbor that lives to the right side of my house, fill their swimming pool for the new season. It literally took 7 hours to fill. I am not sure how many gallons it is. I have met people in my lifetime that had no idea that there were 4 quarts of water in a gallon jug. They just assumed it was a gallon only. I am not really good at math but I do have a calculator on my cell phone. Speaking of math, it takes me back to grade 11 in high school when my teacher, Mr. Lowry gave us a sneak quiz on algebra. I failed it because I didn't understand what that was all about. I spent most of my high school time stoned and kind of out of it. Some of my classmates were very good at math, and it even showed when they got their report cards. I may have gotten of the path of whatever we were initially talking about. I think it had something to do with blue cheese. No, I remember now, it was car batteries. I never could figure out why they put car batteries in the front of the vehicle and not inside the vehicle. It would be so much easier to work on them, especially in the rain, if they were inside the vehicle. Doesn't that make more sense to you too? Well anyhow, batteries are pretty heavy for their size and some people can't lift them very good. I had a fried, Tony Smith who had asthma and once he tried to lift out his car battery, and sneezed, and the battery fell out of his hands and landed on his right baby toe. It broke the small bones in that toe of his. I called his mothers step daughter Ann but she was not home. So I then called his brothers uncle Fred and told him about what just happened to Tony's toe. He seamed like he was drunk and started laughing at me and said “I don't care about that Bast#rds toe”. I got mad and hung up on him immediately. From that day on, I never spoke to Tony's brother's uncle Fred. I never really liked him in the first place because when Tony and I were 13 years old, we were at a softball game and Fred walked over to us and farted right in our faces. That was not very nice of that old pervert. I heard some stories about him when he was about 20 years old that would make you cringe if you heard them, but I can't get into that right now because I have to finish up my posting here on you tube. I hope I have given you folks some good advice on having some of your problems solved in a timely manner. I like to help out when I can if it is at all possible. I am out for 3 more hours so I want to go now and get a hot dog and a bottle of grape soda. I need to look around for a ride so I can get back to my padded room at the Sinclair Insane Asylum. I hope Dr. Dilbert will not be mad at me for sneaking out....

you can use the exact same schematic yes. But you will need to use a different resistor to power this.
I've tried this twice and could never get the laser diode to light up, it had three pins. I have one in my drawer I could try it with again. EDIT - OK that's why it wouldn't light up, I burned it out immediately! I am really short on solder but I'll give it a go if I have any left from fixing my cordless phone and CPU Heatsink fans.
Hi Man, Thanks for share, maybe do You know Why my Laser diode does not have enough power?? I made the exact same conections that You do, the fist time I connected the circuit it powers on like yours but not enough to burn, so I decide reduce the resistor to increase the current but now it it almost not light is produced.
Hey I was wondering if the heat gets unbearable for the later? I am about to assemble one and the thought went through my head- won't the diode just pop when you turn it on? You are effectively making a generator to reach enough power for the diode but... Isn't it too much? Or even if the diode survives isn't it getting too hot?
I made a circuit with a lm317 voltage stabilizer as in a film and when it gives a voltage of 4.22V per diode it gets 3.58V and when it gives 9.96V voltage per diode it gets 9.28V . My resistor has exactly 4 ohms. Should it work that way? The electrician in the store told me that this arrangement does not make sense. What should I have voltage on the diode? Please reply .

Yes lasers diodes are quite easy to make in your kitchen with a very hot oven. You will need some Gallium, some Arsenic, a bit of aluminium might be useful, two tblspns lemon, and a pound of Sugar.
Hello, if anyone still watches these comments, i have a question: When i take the operation current of the laser diode (< 0,34A) and the Ohm of the resistor (3,3Ohm) and try to calculate the voltage (3,3 * 0,34 = 1,122) i get 1,122V as the result. What battery has a 1,122V voltage? And in the video are even multiple 3,7V batteries used. Am I misunderstandling anything?

I would make a mold of a tiny cylinder diner, not too large yet not too small. Fit inside the fully soldered and connected LM317 ballast. Use rubber insulated wire for the inputs and outputs. Fill the mold with resin, and wait for it to harden. To make sure the wires don’t screw up, use a thick set ceramic glue to cap off the wires going in and out, almost like that on flyback transformer pins. Then make a thin 3D printed case, fill it with a tiny amount of the same ceramic glue, and press fit it on. Put a nice sticker on it, and try to color code the wires.

Hello...Can you tell me what tool to use for putting the diode inside the housing? I am having problems
20/10 "Family Friendly" now my little sister don't have her left eye :)
sorry
That's right. Burny lasers are not fun(ny). Neither did that come out of a "CD drive" of any description !
Very good vid . Thanks
Can I use 3.3 ohm 1 watt resistor together with LM317 with power source of 6v?
Why you did not add any capacitor in lm317 driver circuit?
dude thats freakin awesome. keep up the good work
It's not good work, it's BS. As you will discover if you extract the laser from a cd-R and try it.
@@gerardvaughan1847 ...
This man has no glue gun 🔫
Liked the interesting power supply.
I wish I could understand better what you are saying because this looks like an awesome laser i would like to make.
How strong is the laser actually
I've tried this twice and could never get the laser diode to light up, it had three pins. I have one in my drawer I could try it with again.
EDIT - OK that's why it wouldn't light up, I burned it out immediately! I am really short on solder but I'll give it a go if I have any left from fixing my cordless phone and CPU Heatsink fans.
Can you parallel laser diodes for more pow?
Can I replace lpc-836 diode laser with other diode lasers? Thanks!
Nice tutorial. This can remove the tattoo?
Yes, I tested on my hand and I not hand anymore.
can i use a 1000mW diode using the same current driver mentioned in the video?
Hi Man, Thanks for share, maybe do You know Why my Laser diode does not have enough power?? I made the exact same conections that You do, the fist time I connected the circuit it powers on like yours but not enough to burn, so I decide reduce the resistor to increase the current but now it it almost not light is produced.
it's most likely that your diode is gone
use a Buck converter with current limiter and put voltage to 2.5V and current around 180 to 200mA
You rock man. Haters just shut up!!
Respect 👍

RedReign your mother says behave you twatsack
RedReign me too man right in the butthole. It feels good right? I assume you have experience :D
RedReign goodbye sweetheart ttyl imysm mi amor sweet dreams call me later
RedReign I love it when you call me that daddy pull my hair now 😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛 rough baby be rough with me
I made a circuit with a lm317 voltage stabilizer as in a film and when it gives a voltage of 4.22V per diode it gets 3.58V and when it gives 9.96V voltage per diode it gets 9.28V . My resistor has exactly 4 ohms. Should it work that way? The electrician in the store told me that this arrangement does not make sense. What should I have voltage on the diode? Please reply .
Yes, there is a voltage drop for the lm317, it consumes voltage too.
Will you tell me how to solder the diodes ...please ??
Wtf is he saying
Pittbull2304 He is saying.
Putin is King Dick and Trump is a little pussy. Russia first and fuck America.
Peter Schorran. ..lol hes king of castle he have chair ahh VEARDY NIIOCE GREAT SUCKCEZZ..THESE VIDS BLOW ILL JUST BUY ONE UR VIDEO IS A WASTE THEY SELL EM LEGALLY ..UR MUMMY I SWEAR U CRACK ME UP
i was makingz da fund uvz u..lol peter likes ds sausage yahh??
Blake Welsh for real
it means what fuck is he saying
The guide is: destroy a dvd burner , buy a New and stronger laser diode ,a New lent and than assemble. Lmao
Good one sir
Great! You have achieved it!
The space FBI are here
Step 1: get this guy to come over to your house
Step 2: ask him to help make one of these lasers
Step 3: give him the materials for the laser
Step 4: make the laser
Step5 profit
Oh my god that's really cool but i want to know where i can find all that piece because i just got the name of the LCP836 but with what i can do the rest of the laser construction
Thanks
can we use this laser for making a CNC laser engraver
Why are we even watching this? We don't even have the materials 😂
I try it with old DVD and it work! But you need heatsink for LM317 (it is hot!) and safety glasses!
why i want to buy sfety glases?
What is the output voltage and current
The new James Bond counterpart, both accent and gadget.
Can you use a 3.7V battery with the lm317 and the 3.3 ohm resistor, and put it all into a flashlight housing?
Pls answer.....
Thanks
yes
Can I use 10 k resistor?
can you make this video with subtitles (english) ... thanks!
ow nice video. nice work this powerful lasar
LASER
Does it have to be a red light? We tried with a violet light, but it wasn’t very strong. We used a 6 volt battery. Do we need a stronger one.
It has to be a half watt laser, supplied with about 150mA - 300mA. Any more and you might melt it.
nice work
hey dude how many volt can laser handle?
Good video.
хэллоу, май нэйм из Константин энд тудэй айм гона шоу ю мазер оф Кузя! )))
can i use this laser for your Arduino laser engraving project?
Whats your nationality? Youre accent and voice is so relaxing!
+Jung Hyo thanks) I'm Russian
Can i use a 2x1.2v (2.4v in total) AAA battery for the laser?
I just heard that the dvd laser was 2.5 or 2.4 volts in the internet
Im not exactly sure, im 45% sure it would work, but just don't be excited for it to burn stuff because it probably wont be able to.
at what distance is it safe to look at diffused reflection of the beam (the laser dot on some non-reflective surface)?
so far that theres no point relying on that kind of distance to not hurt your eyes. Basically just dont use it without goggles if you like youre seeing balls :D
Does the leser diode definitely need model
Dang, You use Your brain better than most people I meet.
Awesome, i put in on my todo list of project for bad weather day ! Thanks for you'r video, i will make a pic when i finish it :)
And you win a new follower too.
you have a picture i wanne see ^^
Yeah man where's the picture ?
Don't !
That was a 5?watt RED laser diode. Infra red is not visible !!!
Can I use or upgrade it and use a powerful battery?
Yes lasers diodes are quite easy to make in your kitchen with a very hot oven. You will need some Gallium, some Arsenic, a bit of aluminium might be useful, two tblspns lemon, and a pound of Sugar.
laser module & laser diode can i buy these items from hardware store
Saiyan Confident highly doubt it, but you might find it at a place that sells surplus science equipment.
Hello, if anyone still watches these comments, i have a question:
When i take the operation current of the laser diode (< 0,34A) and the Ohm of the resistor (3,3Ohm) and try to calculate the voltage (3,3 * 0,34 = 1,122) i get 1,122V as the result.
What battery has a 1,122V voltage? And in the video are even multiple 3,7V batteries used.
Am I misunderstandling anything?
im no expert but maybe you could use a diff. resistor?
Dude can you make a laser for me 😂 🤣 😂
