- In this video I will explain the scheduling system for the Irish driving test and I'll also outline how the waiting list is managed and I'll also inform you of the questions the tester will ask you before the test. This is to provide you with an update as to how the driving test is conducted both in terms of the application process and the actual driving test establishing questions that the tester will pose.

No I am not an Essential Worker,
Doesn't matter, they are accepting and processing applications from non essential workers.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm on the waiting list and not an essential worker. Is there a cancellation list I can join instead? Every driving instructor in Dublin seems to think this list exists but I can't seem to find a way to join it anywhere ;( thanks in advance, your videos are a great help!
Normally yes there would be but at the moment critical front line workers are the priority. If you're reapplying then you may be able to avail of a fast track application. Anything like this will be managed on the MyRoadSafety portal.
Passed my test today with one grade one and one grade two mark. Your videos were the reason I was able to do so well and maybe even the reason I passed. Thank you so much

Passed my test first time two weeks ago, I watched your videos for about a month in the lead up only got 3 grade 2 marks on my test thanks for your videos they are all extremely helpful. Bit of advice to learner drivers is on the day of your test try not to leave your nerves get the better of you and if you make a mistake forget about it and focus on the road infront of you.

I think the RSA need to start early like 6/7am and finish the tests late 9/10pm. Im doing my lessons now and dreading the backlog. I know people waiting since late 2019 and march 2020. This is getting worse. Thanks for your videos they are helpful
That is what happens sometimes, especially in the summer
I booked mine 2 days ago and it’s in 2 weeks , i could of booked it for the next day but i wanted the time

You can now change centers without penalty which is a great add on
I don't think there was ever a penalty for changing the test centre.

Hi Dane just a question about taking the driving test in an instructors car, so say I want to take my driving test in an instructors car who I didnt do my lessons with, is that allowed or do you have to stick with the same instructor forever? Keeping in mind ive done my 12 lessons just want to switch instructor.
You can use a new instructors car if he allows, no problem there. Might be a good idea to get a lesson or two to get more comfortable with the car.

Are you still eligible for a faster test date if you work in an essential service? For example my place of work was kept open during the lockdowns in ROI.
Yes you can request a quicker date if you can prove that you are critical front line worker.
Please, I applied in October 2020 for a driving test. I just upgraded it to urgent test for essiential care workers in July 2021. I received an email within some days to apply for a driving test within 10 days. I thought all I needed to do was to choose a date, but the system requested me to pay again. On my page, I also saw that I am currently on a waiting list. I emailed back to tell my story, but I didn't receive any advice or response. Please what do I do? Thank you

im currently only 4/12 on my lessons atm... so between that and 6 months away from being able to apply (question: with how long the waiting period is of applying and then waiting for a test date.. can you apply for the test BEFORE the 6 months is up .... or can you only do it AFTER the 6 months... then wait longer for the RSA to give you a date for the exam? technically extending your 6 month period as you are in the waiting phase?
You have to have all 12 lessons done and you're permit must be 6 months old. Before the MyRoadSafety portal started you could apply before the 6 months but I don't think so now.

applied october 2020, not a word since then, payment thpugh was debited immediately ))) is there gonna be some smartphone app tool by RSA reflectionng one's position on the que or website one?
Hi I'm in a similar situation to you, I'm waiting since November 2020, just wondering is their a way to find your position in the que?
They will get back to you eventually and they are planning to release a tool that will tell you what length of time you will expect to be waiting. As a driving instructor I can fully appreciate the frustration you feel at the lack of communication from the RSA. They just don't communicate effectively with learners or instructors.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive theres not just lack of communication but charging upfront thousands of people with 85 euo and nothing is disgrace. Even on NCT, one is being charged on the day of it

HI Dane ! Can i apply driving test by post ! After filling the form,? I Cant apply online ! Have a problem with my internet here at the moment.
Yes they still accept postal applications, you can get a form from a garda station or a driving test centre.
If you fail the test do you just apply again in the regular waiting list and it’ll invite you in 6-8 weeks or is there a different list to apply to?
Apply in the regular one and you should receive a link in 6 or 8 weeks to get a test date. That's what I've been told by the RSA anyway.
Thanks so much Dane. Hugely helpful in the absence of proper communication from the RSA. To confirm, if you fail a test even if NOT a critical frontline worker, you will still only be waiting 6-8 weeks for a new invitation? Thanks again.
I failed my test on the 13th of July and got another appointment about 3 weeks later. Apply for an urgent driving test by the way, they don’t check to see if you’re an essential driver
@@dano1915 It's an awful abuse of the system, isn't it? Just in consideration of people on this comment section who are waiting close to a year to get a test date and have heard nothing. I'm not judging or anything, it's just so stupid the way they have the UDT system set up where you can apply without having to prove anything. I applied for the test in June and got the date and passed my test in early July, but I'm actually an essential worker and need to be able to transport myself to and from work daily.
Yes you should still be able to do a test 6-8 weeks after you reapply
@@martincurran4985 everyone should be applying for urgent driving tests at this point. My mate applied for a non-essential driving test in September and still hasn’t got a test date. Thank god I passed today because I was at the end of my tether with this ridiculous carry on

Sir for how long will it just be critical care workers who are doing driving tests? That's what I was told when I rang up the rsa office last week. I'm an essential worker who really needs to get their licence soon Great video as always!
Both frontline and regular workers can get a test now.

You must have rang the wrong number because for many weeks now they have been giving tests to non essential workers -
The driving test appointments are offered in the following order:
1.Essential workers, who previously applied for an urgent test and who are eligible to sit their test
2.Customers who had to cancel a previous test appointment due to Covid restrictions.
3.After that, we will be issuing invitations based on eligibility and application date. This means, the earlier a customer applied, the sooner they will get an appointment, provided they are eligible to sit their test.
4.If they were not eligible to sit the test when they first applied, then their position in the invitation queue is determined by the date they finish their EDT.
Can you tell me how to check my driving license application?
Through the MyRoadSafety portal. I'm sure that the RSA would say that they are handling your application and they will get to you in due course. What's the problem? Are you waiting a long time?
Hi Dane, iv been waiting since last September, what happens if you cannot make your test date are you put to the back of the queue or can you rebook and how long will you get a test date,
last September?? OMG and I thought I was waiting a long time (3 months now)
If a customer doesn’t make a booking within 10 days of receiving an invitation, they will receive a link to the "request to be re-added to the invitation queue" form and once this is completed, we will place them back on to the invitation queue and another date will be sent to you.

Dane ive applied but god knowa how long I will be waiting. Do you know if i can get it sooner because i need a license for work yet my employer refuses to write me a letter saying so becaise im not classified as a "frontline worker"
Not a whole lot you can do about it if you're not a front line worker

Hello man, I had a test today the trainer called me 10 minutes late and I missed his call, after 4 minutes I called him and he said the appointment is cancelled do you think he is right? Cuz atleast he should call twice or three times before cancelling 🥲
He also said my money that I payed online also gone
