    My first experience today with MixEA. It definitely sounded better than my Ozone master. I brought in the Mixea as a reference track on Ozone 10. I found out that the middle was brought down on the Mixea track, the High needed to be boosted, Around 1K I had to have a hi-Q notch reduction. Even with the EQ curve matched very closely and the LUFs brought into line, there was still an intangible goodness with the Mixea version. If I had to, I would say the Mixea had a better a clarity - each instrument seemed more defined. After I matched though, it was really close. Still, the Mixea sounded more professional to me. I'm going to get the subscription for a year and try my hardest to figure out exactly what needs to be done.

    Good analysis. I’ve never used an online mastering site but I did recently upgrade Ozone Elements to Ozone Standard. I used the Master Assistant to master a track & other than changing the genre it picked (it classified it as EDM when it’s actually a metal song lol), I changed the genre to “Rock”, & the only adjustments I made were to overall dynamics boost up 10% & width up 5%. Also turned down global EQ setting from default 50% to 25-30%. Just those minor adjustments worked great for my track. So Ozone has my vote for ease of use & overall response.

      Thanks for checking it out. I would agree with what you said about Ozone. I think that master assistant is often 90% of the way there, and with a little tweaking you can get something that sounds truly great. It’s all about having a great mix in the first place, and knowing what you’re listening for, and using the right tool for the job. Distrokid had a decent attempt, and for simplicity and ease of use it will suit a lot of people, but in my mind there’s no substitute for digging in yourself and really sculpting the master. Take care! 👍

    Mixea does this for radio and tv purposes , sounds awesome as long as you have a good master and mix . If you have a crappy mix you’re finished but it compresses the music just right

    I just got my distrokid. How does it sound with Techno and House music? 🎶.that's what I'm doing 👽

    Mixea has helped with a few of my more "natural" tracks in getting them sounding more pro.
    But with my more bass heavy tracks, it just muddles it down and makes it sound worse. Like, why would you make a loud ass kick drum LESS awesome? I don't get it lol

    Thanks for posting, agreed that this does not offer good value for money sonically, compared to self-mastering with plug-ins if you don't have the budget for anything more.

    is the Distrokid master also set to -1db at the end ? - is anybody else doing this - or is that an urban myth?

    Sounds tinny and louder. Pointless service. Why gamble, use an experienced human or do it yourself. 😎

    I got an email from Distrokid saying that I mastered at 24hz HiRes congratulations beep bop bop, but unfortunately you didn’t use our service to verify your album audiophile quality and we have to drop your album to low res 16hz for Tidal.
    It’s just gutted my low end.

    I heard It's based on a strip down version of iZotope mastering assistante algorithm

      I think there will be similarities in the way it considers the source material, but the processing taking place will be a lot more advanced in Ozone. That’s my view on it, they may be able to tell us different 😀

    Is it right to upload the song to mixea without limiting it? Or should I upload it loud?

    • @SamLoose
      @SamLoose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ideally upload without anything on the master bus, as if you were giving it to a mastering engineer. That should give the best results 👍

    quick random question - how do you set it up so when you solo one channel it flips the previous soloes channel off and vice versa?

    • @SamLoose
      @SamLoose  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question 😀 Hold alt and it will remove all other solos and just make the new one active. Thanks for watching!

    I am sure Ozone sounds louder due to the nicer mix of mids. The EA track sounds too empty in the mids to me. You did a real fair review of the service, and I find your conclusions mostly spot on. My only disagreement is that I find your original mix better than EA as well due to the much better dynamics. At normal play volumes, your original mix has much better clarity and punch. Well done.

      Thanks for checking it out! I was happy with my original mix, and on reflection I think I agree that the EA master was no real improvement in terms of balance and dynamics. It was a great experiment!

    I dont think this is any better than grabbing Ozone or even a Mastering EQ and a limiter and doing it yourself, in fact I think its worse. It really takes nothing at all to be able to master better than this at home especially if you already mix
