Now I'm torn between the iLoud and the Adam's. Biggest problem for both is no way to add a sub (which I already have for the Kanto's). I guess you could use a cable splitter. Thanks. You beat everyone else to the punch in reviewing these. Getting mine on Friday in white. Is it possible to run an input into a sub that has outs to the speakers. I might be wrong, but I think Genelec has an F One sub where the signal can go first to the sub and then out to the speakers?

Thx for this video. I know you say the Adams are a better sounding but more neutral than the ora's. I wonder though, if I use an equlizer I can slightly tweak them for my general listening preference (as with any speaker) could you see these being a better buy than the ora's? (don't want a sub) cheers
Nice review! Do you think they might work good for a digital piano speakers. Do they disappear and have good sounstage? The bass is not too booming? Thank you
Cool review, but I wonder how the Adam's perform compared to the iloud's when digitally calibrated (with sonarworks software) to the room. How big are the differences then? And certainly regarding the tweeter, which is supposed to be Adam's strong point in these monitors...
I think active room correction (ARC) is going to be more significant than the ribbon tweeters, especially if you don’t have a room that’s been treated to stop sound reflections. So under that rationale and based on my experience, I prefer the MTMs. The only thing that would cause me to change this is if you told me you would be listening very loudly, and the MTMs struggle a bit there. But given these are for near field listening, I don’t think that will typically be an issue.
Pretty cool review! I totally agree, these compact speakers are INCREDIBLE!!! As a music producer on a tight budget, these are the most AFFORDABLE and impeccable sounding monitoring speakers thus far! Definitely agree about the legedary @adamaudio ribbon tweeters, they add that special sparkle and sweet high end, something you don't get with normal circular tweeters. As someone whom had been using the famous @jlbpro LR 305 MKII speakers, these are just as good and even better than those, especially in the size and BIG SOUND! Let me tell ya'll, those passive radiator are the game changing tech for speakers of this form factor. Most producers, audio engineers like to stay away from speakers that contain drivers smaller than 5"! Why? Because the smaller the driver, the less bass and impact you'll recieve. Well don't worry about that HERE..these bad boys have such a HUGE impact, despite these the chart showing a dip past 47-45hz? Is it SUBWOOFER CRAZY?!?, well NO..but dayum, the bass here is nothing to scoff at here. I am constantly blown away and suprised when watching YT music production videos and listening to the Hard Techno-Trance genre of Music! The bass is definitely TIGHT and PUNCHY! Oh how they are very impressive. I knew that as soon as I saw the announcement for these, and watched their introductory video, I had to have a pair! I've been without my JBL's for some time and was needing more compact monitors. I'm so so glad I was able to get them, as for me, they are LIFE changing speakers.
Nice review! Some comments suggest that the D3V could be coupled with a sub. If so, woundn't that make the speakers comparable to the Oras (+sub) in terms of mixed media consumption or even better ?
The whole point of these is that they are portable though I suppose and can easily be set up on the go. They've also engineered in as much tech as possible to negate the need for subwoofer going down to 45hz. I use a subwoofer with every pair of monitors I own but these, I wouldn't use one because they aren't designed for that. If you want a subwoofer and a less portable setup, get some T5V and a T10S subwoofer, thats a solid 'budget-friendly' setup! Equally, using the balanced inputs on the back, you could pair up a studio subwoofer quite easily, the same way you would with any other monitors using 1/4" TRS leads to XLR in the Adam's and then XLR from your subwoofer to your interface.
Thanks for the great review Jasper. I already ordered the D3V since Ora4 are not available in Japan, where I live. Since you said they sound very neutral, I am bit worried they would not be ideal for me as I would use them to listen to music at audiophile level ( hi res audio from Qobuz/Apple Music) using usb-c. Do you think I can still use something like an external streamer, like WiiM mini/pro to adjust the eq of the speakers?
@Jasper_Tech thank you for making this review so early. I've heard the D3V has a standby mode that causes the speaker to turn off after 20 minutes. Do you have to physically wake the speaker if it enters standby? Or will it automatically wake up when you start playing audio again? To me the standby mode sounded like it might be a nuisance if you're not constantly playing audio... Thanks again
They do not awaken automatically at least with usb connection. Neither do they enter standby when shutting down the computer. One press of volume knob for awake, long press for manual standby mode.
@@migmarfin thank you for clarifying. So will they go into standby mode if the computer is on and not playing for 20 minutes? I just imagine a situation where a notification sound doesn't play because no music is on and the speakers went to sleep.
@@32915 Yes I believe that will happen. Haven't checked about firmware updates yet, but giving an option to disable auto-standby would be welcome for sure.
Hi all! We’ve heard your feedback about the sleep mode on the D3V, and we’re happy to share that the next firmware update will address this. The standby activation time will be extended from 20 to 60 minutes, and you’ll also have the option to completely deactivate the automatic standby. Thanks for helping us to improve your experience with the D3V-all the best from Berlin! Daniel
Great review! I'd love to see the speakers in action on a desk while you talk about them in future reviews. It would give an idea of the footprint and look :)
Nice work. I noticed you jut added the MTM in there and hadn't seen that before. Regardless of value, which one of these speakers sounds the best (most fun to listen to) on a desktop? Also, do you find the room calibration of the MTM and MMPro add significantly to the speaker in-room "tune"? I'd probably be adding a small sub to any one of these, so that may have a factor too.
I have iLoud Micro Monitor Pros for my small studio...would the D3V be complimentary (to A/B) or would I need something bigger for it to be worthwhile? Also looking at Yamaha HS4 on one end or MTM on the other.
It sounds like you’re using them for near field listening (not at really elevated volumes?). If you have the MM Pro, I’d be curious to understand what you’re looking to gain? I suspect you may like the highs on the D3V more, but the MM Pro are pretty amazing little speakers, so I worry the D3V would be at best a cross-grade. I think the MTM are in a different league than the HS4; if you like your MM Pro (do you use the active room correction?), then you’ll like the MTM. Link for those who are curious: amzn.to/3V6Nz7T The other option to consider could be the ADAM Audio T5V amzn.to/3ZjTwkA
Is there a way to turn off the sleep function on these? They auto turn off after a certain amount of time (20 mins?) if there's no signal (usb c) input on them. They don't manually turn back on once you start playing music - you have to press the power button on them to turn them back on. This is sort of a deal breaker if there isn't a work around.
Sadly, not that I know of. I’ve gotten used to it, but I can understand why that would bother many people (I should have mentioned it in the video😞). The Kanto ORA has a really solid standby mode (I just set it and forget it). Not sure if that would be of interest. I’m going to reach out to ADAM Audio about the standby mode to see if they may be able to change this via a firmware update. amzn.to/40I0917
I just got these and I like most things about them but there's one big CON that you didn't mention. These speakers go to sleep after 20 minutes of no sound and they do not wake up automatically. You need to press the volume knob to wake them. If you use them as computer speakers you'll miss any audio notifications unless you have something constantly playing in the background. I checked the manually and this is the expected behavior. I hope Adam is able to fix this via firmware otherwise I'll need to return them.
Hi @ronalcasid3844, We’ve heard your feedback about the sleep mode on the D3V, and we’re happy to share that the next firmware update will address this. The standby activation time will be extended from 20 to 60 minutes, and you’ll also have the option to completely deactivate the automatic standby. We’re always working to improve our products, so thank you for helping us enhance your experience with the D3V. All the best from Berlin! Daniel
@@ronalcasid3844 Thanks for your feedback, and great to hear that you appreciate the solution. An auto wake function is not possible without a hardware redesign, but we'll keep your suggestion in mind. All the best, and thanks for choosing ADAMs!
Great review! I haven't heard of these before. I have the iLoud Micros and love them, but am always looking for the next best thing, it's a sickness lol. Any idea of the approximate length of the speaker-to-speaker cable? The iLoud's are 6 ft. I think, and it get's frustrating in certain setups like my dual monitor setup. Had to put one in-between the two monitors because of the cable length.
Hi, I emailed Adam audio about cable lengths, here’s their reply:- The power cable is 2,5 meters long and can be extended just like any other power cable. The loudspeaker link cable has the length of 2 meters. It cannot be extended. The USB-C cable is 1,5 meters long. USB-C max length is specified as 2 m and the D3V can support that. HTH 🔊
@ Hey, thanks for doing that, and the information! I didn’t see the cable lengths in any of the spec sheets. Great idea to email them directly 👍. It’s too bad about the proprietary speaker interconnect cable, but good information to have. Although it makes sense, as these are ultra near field speakers and not ment to be spread out so wide. Thanks again..
@@phillip3330 I hear you. It’s definitely possible, but if you want to use the USB-C input (like I think many will) then it’s just going to be a bit more annoying to set up the filters etc.
@@taytaymadeit6879 I would get something like the Presonus Sub8BT, which has passthrough and a HPF. So instead of sending audio directly to the Adams, you'll send it to the subwoofer either via bluetooth or analog through your USB audiointerface (if you have one). And then via TRS cables to the Adams. Then enable the HPF on the sub, so the Adams only have to deal with +80Hz.
Could you please test these with the Adam sub7? It would be very great to see only one review with this. My speaker are ordered in EU and I’m waiting now
Great review. I will consider these for my next purchase. The aesthetics of the Adam could use a little improvement though. Also it would be cool to have a compact 3 way speaker. Don't you think? Like the Kef LSX with an additional woofer, a mini Kef R3 Meta if you will.
That would be cool! Barefoot Sound make some really cool speakers that have a tweeter, woofer, and sub all in one cabinet. Check out the Barefoot Sound Footprint03
Hey Jasper i like you energy you seem like a great guy, i hope you can help me. I want to buy some speakers and never had any high quality speakers before i am using some Aiwa system from 20 years ago connected to my pc. I am mostly listening to music pop/edm/rock watching movies on my pc. I am thinking about adam audio d3v and edifier S351DB 2.1. I have small room and i would prefer some speakers that can compliment those genres above. Edifier is around 250euros and adam is around 350, do you think edifier is better for my options or should i spend more for d3v? Thank you, looking for more of your videos in the future !
Given those genres and your use-case, I’d go for the S351DB 2.1. I worry the neutral D3V would not have enough bass for your EDM and movies. Given that and the price difference, seems like an easy choice - the sub will make a big difference. Link for those who are curious: amzn.to/3CIlI7T
@@nutellaontoast4281 good questions! Less distortion and faster transients; the passive radiators on the D3V are great, but they have their limits. The MTM can’t be played super loud, but since they’re for near field use I don’t think this should be an issue for most.
I just got my Adam Audio D3V's hooked up this afternoon, and with a little EQ, they are spectaculalr! The will replace the Adam Audio T5V's as my desktop solution.
@@brochg if these things werent a problem, which one would you prefer? which one sound best? Im afraid of them no sounding full enough as a bigger monitor
Interesting.. I have a pair of T5Vs at my desk that I love I'm actually looking at the D3Vs for a small, portable set of monitors at in the lounge room on the coffee table for when I'm sitting on the lounge with groove boxes.
Can you compare them with 3" EVE Audio SC203? They also have ribbon tweeters and passive radiators. + they have sub-out! Although they are double the money of D3V:) But in same or similar price level like Micro Pro. I have a pair so I'm interested how they compare. Take a note, they do sound best when input is analog (by far) and with rubber pads underneath them (which comes in package with monitors) in comparison with classic acoustic foam.
This is a fair point. My thought is these are desktop monitors and USB-C will be most frequently used source. Under that configuration it will be a pain to use them with a sub. But you’re right, if you’re using the analogue inputs then using a sub with the appropriate filter/output config would get the job done.
Trying to decide between those and the Kanto Oras. The Kantos are actually more expensive here in Germany at 369€ plus the feet I would add vs 329€ for the Adams. Usage would be general media and music consumption, no production. I generally enjoy a linear and neutral sound profile. Any advice?
Hmm. I’d probably go for the Adams since they’re cheaper and you want a linear/neutral sound profile. Can’t really go wrong with either option from a sound perspective. I will say, the ORA’s have a better standby mode. I just set and forget them, where I have to turn the ADAMS on every time I want to use them.
odamda adam audio t7v ve t10s olarak kullanıyorum buna d3v eklentisi nasıl olur. beraber çalablirlerli 4+1 gibi... veya bir aparat ile olabilir mi ?...bu arada tanıtım için çok teşekkürler....
Was set to get the Kanto Ora's the next time I found them on sale, but seriously considering the D3Vs now. How's the overall build quality on the D3Vs?
I'd say the D3V has a better build quality than the ORAs. They feel a bit more substantial than the ORAs, but both are plastic cabinets, so don't expect too much.
new to this channel. why you didn't added the genelec 8010 to this list of desktop studio monitors? they are into roughly the same price range and with the same pros and cons. curious about that as I might want to upgrade (I own the 8010) but nobody compares them much specially with newer models.
Thank you! I’m trying to find the right balance when I talk about technical topics so it’s accessible to as many people as possible (while hopefully not putting off the experts). 🙏
Can both of the inputs be used at the same time? For example, can i run a macbook into the usb input and a synth into the analogue input and have sound from both devices happening at the same time?
Interesting that your video showed up on my feed as I was looking at these monitors for my new studio setup. Nice review of these small footprint monitors. I actually use the iLoud monitors at the moment and looking to upgrade. Is your channel music production or audio tech? Anyway, I just subscribed and good luck!
Hey, Im new to speakers hobby and Im a bit clueless about differences between connections. If I choose iLoud Micro i can connect them to my Topping dx3 pro+ by RCA and then to my pc, ADAM Audio D3V because DX3 pro+ doesnt have 6.35 mm TRS jack or XLR (Adapters are not recommended in manual) I would connect them straight up to PC by USB C. I wonder if should I consider iLoud Micro as better choice because I got Topping as pre-amp. Both costs the same in my country and I dont really care about portability of iLoud Micro.
Hi Jasper, I'm either looking to grab these or Kanto ora 4 (looking for Monitor like sound sig but won't be doing much editing or production through it just lite stuff) so wondering which of these has less bass and an option to lower the bass if needed? Guessing Adam audio D3v have tight / linear bass and not as punchy/ in your face as Kanto ora 4? (I'm looking for less bass but accurate bass) But I'm also looking to playback Highres currently all my 24bit music is 48khz but this might change to 24bit/ 96khz in future as I dnt think ill ever need 32bit. Kanto ora 4 supports 24bit upto 44 & 48 & 96 but D3v tops out at 24bit & 32bit up but limited to 44 & 48 khz knly (no 96 khz support)...such a difficult decision as I want to ensure I'm future proofing my purchase for good few years 😅
Based on what you’re describing, I think you’d be happier with the D3V. The ORA4 bass is pretty strong. I’ll say it’s REALLY hard to hear the differences between the various bitrates at this level, so I would not put too much weight on that factor unless you know it will be an issue for you.
Here's what I'm wrestling with- I want an immersive sound from my desktop. But I feel like anything that is marketed as a studio monitor isn't going to do that as well as something that is THX certified(or anything else that isn't a monitor). Tell me what I'm missing.
Regarding THX... this is a good read: www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/comments/knzyma/you_audiophiles_opinion_what_does_thx/ Don't put too much weight in THX. That being said, monitors are for critical listening; is that your use-case? If not, skip the monitor and go with something else. I made this video about bookshelf speakers that may be of help: th-cam.com/video/vlqub7FnWeY/w-d-xo.html
Wondering if anyone on here is experiencing the same issue as me, or maybe mine are defective. It seems that certain frequencies are getting stuck between the crossover point? Mainly female voices; they shift between clarity and an intense veil / inversion. It’s quite jarring and a bit hard to explain, but I can replicate the issue across multiple songs unfortunately. I can also replicate this issue with both the balanced input & the USB digital input. Anyone on here having the same issue?
Actually you can add a sub easily. Most subs have line ins and outs (some both single ended and balanced). Most older hifi speakers and most contemporary modern studio monitors do not have sub outs.

Another great video. No sub out? I was really considering these until seeing that.
@@GizmoNETwork Thanks for the helpful response. I already had a Kanto 8Sub so I went with the new Kanto ORA4s. Really impressed with the setup so far.
Argh this is the one thing holding me back from getting these!

Great review! I'd love to see the speakers in action on a desk while you talk about them in future reviews. It would give an idea of the footprint and look :)
Cool vid, keep it up!
Nice work. I noticed you jut added the MTM in there and hadn't seen that before. Regardless of value, which one of these speakers sounds the best (most fun to listen to) on a desktop? Also, do you find the room calibration of the MTM and MMPro add significantly to the speaker in-room "tune"? I'd probably be adding a small sub to any one of these, so that may have a factor too.
thank you for the quick review
Nice review! Thanks for mentioning the bias towards "pro" equipment, even when that's actually not the best fit for everyone!

The other option to consider could be the ADAM Audio T5V
amzn.to/3ZjTwkA
G'day. 5 minutes in... Subscribed! Good luck.

Thanks for the review. But I would like to see a comparison of these Adam Audio D3V vs Kali Audio LP-UNF.
Agreed! Sadly the D3V were not out when this was recorded. I’ll try to do a follow up soon!
Wow, that's a massive oversight

@@ADAMAudioBerlin That is great to hear! Ideally when using the USB input the speakers should wake and sleep with the computer. Is that possible?
@@ronalcasid3844 Thanks for your feedback, and great to hear that you appreciate the solution. An auto wake function is not possible without a hardware redesign, but we'll keep your suggestion in mind. All the best, and thanks for choosing ADAMs!
@@ADAMAudioBerlin I strongly appreciate Adam Audio addressing customer concerns. Thank You!

Hi, I emailed Adam audio about cable lengths, here’s their reply:-
The power cable is 2,5 meters long and can be extended just like any other power cable.
Adding a sub to the D3V's can be done, somewhat easily.
Presonus makes their newest Sub 8BT, which has TRS output, a HPF and BT.
@@phillip3330 I hear you. It’s definitely possible, but if you want to use the USB-C input (like I think many will) then it’s just going to be a bit more annoying to set up the filters etc.
How do I add a sub to them ? I have them and have been trying to
@@taytaymadeit6879 I would get something like the Presonus Sub8BT, which has passthrough and a HPF.
My speaker are ordered in EU and I’m waiting now
how does those compare with yamaha hs3?
hs3 gets bad reviews
I have not tried them, but I agree with the below comment, I have not heard good things.
Fantastic video, thanks for the knowledge!
thanks again for your review. in terms of sound (not price) do you prefer the iloud mtm or these ADAM Audio D3V?
Great review. I will consider these for my next purchase. The aesthetics of the Adam could use a little improvement though.
Also it would be cool to have a compact 3 way speaker. Don't you think? Like the Kef LSX with an additional woofer, a mini Kef R3 Meta if you will.
That would be cool! Barefoot Sound make some really cool speakers that have a tweeter, woofer, and sub all in one cabinet. Check out the Barefoot Sound Footprint03
Would you mind to include frequency response also of those monitors? The only thing needed to make those is measurement mic and just an app
Would love to see these compared to Edifier MR4s, different price bracket I know, but it's what I got so 😂
How's the low end compared to the iLoud's?
I own both the iloud micros and micro pros. Will let you know when I get the adams.
Thank you for the video! really helpful
Are those grey ones in the back the unreleased Kanto Ren? 👀 Waiting to hear from you about them
👀
can't help but think of Ren and Stimpy

How does the low end compare between the D3V and iLoud MTM?
MTM has better low end given its dual drivers 👍
@ better as in it extenders deeper, or it has less distortion or faster transients? Or all of the above haha?
@@nutellaontoast4281 good questions! Less distortion and faster transients; the passive radiators on the D3V are great, but they have their limits. The MTM can’t be played super loud, but since they’re for near field use I don’t think this should be an issue for most.
between mtm mk2 and this d3v, which do you prefer?
do you think with the ik dsp box paired with the d3v, the dv3 would far surpass the mtm mk2?
Hi Jasper! What do you think about KRK GoAUX 4?
I just got my Adam Audio D3V's hooked up this afternoon, and with a little EQ, they are spectaculalr! The will replace the Adam Audio T5V's as my desktop solution.
why are u replacing the t5v?
@ The extra equipment needed, alongside the much larger size of the T5V’s are why they are going to go.
@@brochg if these things werent a problem, which one would you prefer? which one sound best? Im afraid of them no sounding full enough as a bigger monitor
Interesting.. I have a pair of T5Vs at my desk that I love
I'm actually looking at the D3Vs for a small, portable set of monitors at in the lounge room on the coffee table for when I'm sitting on the lounge with groove boxes.
@@iluvj00 If space and the extra gear wasn’t an issue, the T5V’s are better.
The Adam Audio T10s sub can easily be added. The source goes to the sub first, then out to the monitors.
This is a fair point. My thought is these are desktop monitors and USB-C will be most frequently used source. Under that configuration it will be a pain to use them with a sub.
But you’re right, if you’re using the analogue inputs then using a sub with the appropriate filter/output config would get the job done.
@ I agree! I have Adam T5V’s and have them connected this way. For these, I will use usb-c
@@Jasper_Tech Thanks to your mini-review, I just ordered a pair.
@brochg amazing! Let me know how you like them (seriously!). 👍👍
I am so ready to trade in my krks for these. Trying to make my setup super compact and these check all the boxes
I just set and forget them, where I have to turn the ADAMS on every time I want to use them.
odamda adam audio t7v ve t10s olarak kullanıyorum buna d3v eklentisi nasıl olur. beraber çalablirlerli 4+1 gibi... veya bir aparat ile olabilir mi ?...bu arada tanıtım için çok teşekkürler....
youtube cut a passage of the video, too bad we can't listen to the sound of its speakers, very good review
Was set to get the Kanto Ora's the next time I found them on sale, but seriously considering the D3Vs now. How's the overall build quality on the D3Vs?
I'd say the D3V has a better build quality than the ORAs. They feel a bit more substantial than the ORAs, but both are plastic cabinets, so don't expect too much.
try get a pair of Tannoy Gold 5s, I got one they are amazing and ok cheap. I would say they rival the KEFs at a much cheaper price point
new to this channel. why you didn't added the genelec 8010 to this list of desktop studio monitors? they are into roughly the same price range and with the same pros and cons. curious about that as I might want to upgrade (I own the 8010) but nobody compares them much specially with newer models.
@@enparticular I wanted to, I just don’t own a pair. I’m going to try to snag a pair soon to test them out 👍
Really like your way of talking about speakers! Coming from a person who dosen't basically understand anything about speakers lol :)
Thank you! I’m trying to find the right balance when I talk about technical topics so it’s accessible to as many people as possible (while hopefully not putting off the experts). 🙏
Please review KRK Go Aux 4, thanks!
Will look into them!
Can both of the inputs be used at the same time? For example, can i run a macbook into the usb input and a synth into the analogue input and have sound from both devices happening at the same time?
Can the usb C also power the speakers? On the Adam D3V. I have been looking for the answer, but maybe you’ll answer first.
no.
Nice! Glad you liked the review. Right now it’s audio tech, but may expand into some other tech in the future. We shall see!
Google is listening 😂
I hope they make a Carry case. Luckily you can hook them up to a sub.
Right on point!
TH-cam made you remove the audio of the sound demo eh?
HS4 vs D3V. Any thoughts?
Well done!
(I'm looking for less bass but accurate bass)
But I'm also looking to playback Highres currently all my 24bit music is 48khz but this might change to 24bit/ 96khz in future as I dnt think ill ever need 32bit.
Regarding THX... this is a good read:
www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/comments/knzyma/you_audiophiles_opinion_what_does_thx/
Don't put too much weight in THX. That being said, monitors are for critical listening; is that your use-case? If not, skip the monitor and go with something else. I made this video about bookshelf speakers that may be of help:
th-cam.com/video/vlqub7FnWeY/w-d-xo.html
Would these adams be good for having a 2nd set of speakers for checking your music?
It depends what your first set is, but in general, I'd say yes!
@Jasper_Tech Focals solo 6
