As far as The Final Countdown? I will say this: I saw a live version they did from a few years back, and it absolutely ROCKED. Unlike the studio version, guitars were brought out front and center, and really, really changed the song for me.
Europe = Cruppy???? Not even close. No sir. An excellent band with excellent songs and albums. John Norum is one of the greatest guitarists in the world.
Just had a listen to ‘Walk The Earth’, sounds pretty good! I personally think that you can often judge a book (or a record) by its cover, and the fact that it has a really strong one bodes well for the album. The music and the packaging both tell me that this is a band that really cares about what they’re doing.
Incredible band! I've been a fan all my life. Love all eras, a very underrated band. Thank you for covering these guys, they deserve more than they get. Here's some of my favorites: 1. I spent the next few days finding bootlegs of the gig to rehear it, was so good, So this is great vid to know where to start on their studio stuff, thanks!
Awesome choice ..... Europe are easily one of the best hard rock bands going around with a very strong 70’s hard rock influence. Seen them live in Australia & they were awesome live. My top 3 albums 1. Wings of Tomorrow 2. Walk the Earth 3. War of Kings All 3 of these albums are faultless. They are actually getting better with age, so that shows how great “Wings...” is, being their 2nd album.
Great band that kickstarted the Scandi Melodic Rock Movement, My ranking: 1- Debut Album 2- Wings of Tomorrow 3- Prisoners In Paradise 4- War of Kings 5- The Final Countdown 6- Last Look At Eden 7- Bag Of Bones 8- Walk The Earth 9- Out Of This World 10- Secret Society 11- Start From The Dark
PETE/ totally respect your Opinion/. I ve heard zero from the 2017 album. I will 💯 % pick up the “ Walk The Earth”. You are usually “ right on the $$$$! Thanks PETE !
UPDATE PETE: Tremendous call on Walk the EARTH. Played it 3x already : just mins ago ordered a physical copy. Can’t believe I never heard prior to your show. Just my opinion: has a Zeppelin/ Dio/ Deep Purple vibe ! A great 👍 call! On the money 💰! Thanks PETE!
You’ve been saying for a long time how good their stuff is and I got War of Kings on your recommendation. It’s killer... need to get those others in your top four. Great band
Hi Pete , thanks for turning me on to the new Europe albums, sorry I missed them, didn't know they were still making music. So far loving Secret society ( even though last on your ranking) War of kings Last look at Eden Still checking out the other 3 .thanks again
Europe is an amazing band with some amazing music. There very underrated. I even love final countdown. It's a shame so many ppl only think the only record they did was final countdown
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO freaking happy to see you do this video! This band is criminally underrated in America. I totally agree with your assessment and how so many people are missing out on some great albums by overlooking this band. Although I will also say i do love the final countdown song and album as well....no apologies on my part, it's good shit! Thanks for doing this video! Love the THOR shirt too!
OK, I think Pardo , sold me on checking out Europe. He mentions UFO< Lizzy, Zep, Heep, Purple type music. Being a huge fan of Metal / Hard Rockin in 80's, 90's, Europe was Never, Ever , on my radar. Alas, all i knew was the poppy over-played countdown , and carrrie. None of my friends had their albums. They never were in my realm. Only time , was when I bought the Don Dokken Solo CD in 1990, he has a great band with John Norum on guitar. Great album. I had heard of Norum in my guitar magazines, but he had left Europe then. Going to check out there stuff today!
You made me listen to more Europe. Thanks for that, Pete! I feel like it's a bit similar with the Scorpions. If you only know Wind of Change or Rock You Like a Hurricane, you're missing out on the great early Roth-era albums.
First concert I ever went to back in 85! They toured "Wings of tomorrow" in small venues here in Sweden and they were absolutely great! Saw them again in 2018 and they sure have aged well - heavier than ever!
Great band and interesting list! Since you like prog there’s another Swedish band called ’Pain of Salvation’. They’re very unique and every album they’ve done has its own sound and expression. You can expect everything from prog to metal, folk and rock etc. Would love to hear you rank their albums some day. Keep up the good work!
Absolutely agree - Europe are much more than "The Final Countdown" - even though I think that is their finest hour. I have zero shame in loving som great pop music when I hear it! Saw them in concert a few years ago where they did a lot of songs from their newer albums and was really astounded. It as really amazing stuff, and these guys really can deliver the gods live. Norum is a guitargod up there with the best of them, and Tempest still has a superb voice unlike so many other rock vocalists his age that have ripped their chords to shreds.
A very interesting list indeed Pete. Personally, my issue with the last 2 albums is that there was such a heavy reliance on sounding like their inspirations, you know - that sense of nostalgia. For me Last Look at Eden was the peak of their career, post-reunion.
I was indeed guilty as charged when it comes to Europe, Final Countdown and Carrie and that was pretty much it...........until I saw, by pure chance, john Norum playing the loner as a tribute to Gary Moore and was fucking slaying it, awesome chops so I bought Europe live at Shepherds Bush Blu ray and that was it, just a excellent heavy rock band and an outstanding live act....haven't looked back since, pretty much agree with your choices but would have had Prisoners In Paradise a bit higher just for Girl From Lebanon alone.....outstanding band.
I love Europe, and I’m pretty much on the same page as you except for Prisoners in Paradise, which is one of my favorites. I just love the songs, the full and powerful production, and John Levén’s bass, which has never been more prominent than on the Prisoners album.
Hey Pete preach it Brother!!!!!!! That album The Final Countdown was the one main album I grew up with. and "Out Of This World." as well as "Prisoners in Paradise"
Awesome review! I grew up during the “The Final Countdown” and not a fan. Never followed them. A friend turned me onto 2015’s War of Kings. I rolled my eyes but he swore there’s not a “Carrie” on there. I love that album! That led me to buy Walk The Earth. I’m building my collection of theirs now. I’ll get Last Look At Eden and Bag of Bones next. Thanks!
I have great memories of "The Final Countdown" so I can still listen to it. I really don't hear it much anyway except around New Years Eve. Have you done a countdown of Yngwie Malmsteen albums?
As a swede Europe was not at all one of my favorite in the 80ths. And i had no expectations at all when they performed some years ago at Sweden Rock Festival but boy was i surprised!! heavy hard rock from beginning to end, just awesome songs. Thank's Pete for this great video.
Glad that you dig this band. Didn't know that TFC was so succesful in the U.S. as well. John Norum's personal stuff is awesome too. You people check Talisman if you havent (Jeff Scott Soto and the late Marcel Jacob)
Talisman is a great band. I have been a huge Jeff Scott Soto fan since his singing days with Yngwie Malmsteen. I love Talisman's live version of Scream Of Anger . I Know that Marcel Jacob was in the band Europe before they got signed and he cowrote Scream Of Anger with Joey Tempest but it was called Black Journey Through My Soul originally. It sucks that Marcel passed away . He was a great talent.
Honestly, I think my favourite Europe album is actually Prisoners in Paradise. The opening riff on all or nothing always made me hype as a kid and still makes me giddy today, and other songs such as halfway to heaven, mind in the gutter and prisoners in paradise always put me in a great mood. I get why a lot of people don't really like that particular style of Europe, but it really works for me. I mostly agree with the rest of the list though. I'd personally put the final countdown above the first album, but I still think it's a fair list.
Another great video, I'm amazed by the number of people who think melodic hard rock bands suck, there's going to be always great bands and no so great in any style of music. I know this type of music was big in the 80s until 1991 roughly. I was a young man in the 90s, but I I grew up listening lots of 70s and 80s band. For me Europe is a great band and there were many, Treat, Harem Scarem, Steelheart, and many more. I like your videos because like me you listen current music by old and new bands, because there are many people that are still stucked listening to the first 2 or 3 albums of their favourite bands. Even though I like blues and some jazz, hard rock and melodic hard rock are what I like the most. Please Pete take a moment to review the new albums by H.e.a.t, The night flight orchestra, Palace (from Sweden), Harem Scarem, One Desire (from Finland), Treat new albums. Maybe the golden years for melodic hard rock is gone but there are lots of new brands. One issue I find funny is that we stil talk like we are teenagers and if it's not too heavy is rubbish. Keep those videos coming, cheers from England.
Living in Sweden, saw them on TV when they won a Rock band contest that led to their first album if I'm not remember wrong. I realy loved the two first albums but I don't know what happened to me after that. I lost interest among all hits. In Sweden you could not avoid hearing them on radio and TV all time. But I have always respect the band and saw them live a couple of years ago. Great show. And of course Norums two first albums are great.
As a Swede, I have to give mad props to you for this video and for defending the band's honor. I guess most people see them as a one hit wonder or a joke. But nothing could be further from the truth. And even today, they put on a pretty good live show. "Superstitious" should be regarded as a classic today. It's a hell of a song and the guitar solo is unbelievably good.
Good morning Pete; people should probably start with their live album "Live in Sweden" if they want to find out just how hard rockin this band really is; they also have Michael Schenker and Scott Gorham doing UFO and ThinLizzy songs; then they will maybe change their minds about this highly underrated band.
Great list! I would switch places with Bag of Bones and Secret Society. I think Bag of Bones is the weaker one since the reunion. Wings of Tomorrow, War of Kings and Walk the Earth is my favorites.
Yes yes yes YESSSSSS an AMAZING band so so much more to them than those two songs the latter day albums especially since 2004 wow wow they are amazing I've seen them three times will be going time and time again
i did explore few of their albums. very good indeed. I will explore more. I still think that The final countdown album is very good. Thank you Pete. Your passion for music, makes me more passionate about it. I wish I could live forever so I can dig everything...
Such a great but underrated band. A fan for live since THAT album came out in "86. Wings is also my favorite album. Absolutely killer album!! Since the restart I think Secret society is their best. But War of kings and Walk the earth ate sublime too. Long live Europe!!!
Pete a brilliant band to rank and your ranking is about the same as mine. If you've not heard the live cd from Shepherd's Bush I would recommend that, truly stunning stuff.
No big disagreement with you ranking, though I would have put out if this world a bit further up. Superstitious is a great song and there’s a few others on that album. I saw them live just before lockdown and they played walk the earth, which I was immediately hooked by, so got the album after that, and agree it’s great. Great review. Keep up the good work!
My buddy turned me on to your channel about four months ago but I have been watching you on my own for the last 6months in and off. I listen to number one and number two on your list. I would’ve never listen to this band at all. I learn a lot of stuff from your channel. Tomorrow… Alice Cooper… I really like “From The Inside” Love the tunes… Love the cover… Those fold open doors… Bernie Taupin and Bob Ezrin ...What’s not to like? Looking forward to that countdown ! Thanks !
Good morning Mr. Pete "SOT" Pardo ! How about an episode of ranking the studio albums of The Black Crowes . Arguably the best Rock and Roll band of the 90's.In my opinion they had a few phenomenal albums throughout their long career and some stellar musicians members. Cheers!
Hi Pete your totally right.... The last four Europe Albums are amazing to me My Ranking: 1.War of Kings 2.Last look at Eden 3.Walk the earth 4.Bag of Bones .....Killer Material
Hey Pete, great work as always. I'd love to see you and Chris Alo talk about K.K. Downing starting up his own band called KK's Priest. Should be a funny discussion.
I love the band Europe!!! I even love the song final countdown! One of my favorite songs is “Sign of the times” cranked to 10! I agree they have so many great songs and albums. Recently Walk the earth. The song Walk the earth has a most amazing guitar solo and the song is amazing!!! Favorite album is Last look at Eden!!!
I have been a hardcore fan since my 6th birthday November 8th 1988: as a birthday present I was given the album Out of this world.... and my life changed forever - 32 years later I am a bigger Europe then ever before. I am so happy you are giving them the overall recognition they deserve!!!!! Okay so for me there is no such thing as a bad Europe - But that being said.... I'm going to attempt to give you my ranking as of right now. So here we go: 11.Europe 10. Start from the dark 9. Secret society 8. The Final Countdown 7. Prisoners in paradise 6. Last look at Eden 5. Bag of bones 4. Wings of tomorrow 3. Out of this world 2. War of kings 1. Walk the earth
Love Europe... I might not agree with all your picks...But......Keep up the Great work and don't let any one give you...S..T... Love you and your channel
Can't really argue with that list, although I do actually really like Prisoners In Paradise a lot. But the newer stuff is killer. Can't wait to see them in Toronto this summer. Too bad being first on a three band bill means a greatest hits set, but still it will be awesome.
I actually don't mind how varied the Europe albums are. You get a little bit of everything with their catalogue. I'm partial to the earlier albums, but still spin the newer stuff as well. Live at Sweden Rock is a great concert set. Got to see them open for Def Leppard on the Out of This World tour. Another t-shirt that I wore until it disintegrated.
Great Vid! I also thought Secret Society was kind of a misstep. I love all the other 2000's albums. Can't wait to finally see these guys live this summer.
Great listing Pete. I couldn't agree more on your assessment of the band. It's unfortunate that they get pigeon holed because of Countdown. They have always been a solid band that haven't received the respect they deserve.
Thank you for giving Europe the respect they deserve. The first two albums were great even 'The Final Countdown' had it's moments.I will check out their latest few albums based on your comments. Maybe you could do a TNT ranking the albums. Another great Scandinavian Hard Rock/Metal band.
How about ranking the Golden Earring albums sometime? I would like to see how that would turn out. Giving that most people only know them for the 2 big radio hits here in the states.
Yes. I have been checking out the collection box set lately...29 cds. They have some fantastic quite heavy songs out. They are much more than just Radar Love and Twilight Zone.
The title track may be overplayed but for me The Final Countdown is a solid album. Rock the Night, Danger on the Tracks, Time Has Come, Heart of Stone are all first rate. Out of This World, Wings of Tomorrow, and War of Kings are also excellent albums.
The guitar solo on "Superstitious" is one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard.
Totally agree! Kee Marcelo is an extremely underrated guitarist. He's a Beast
Absolutely!

Awesome choice ..... Europe are easily one of the best hard rock bands going around with a very strong 70’s hard rock influence. Seen them live in Australia & they were awesome live.
My top 3 albums
1. Wings of Tomorrow
2. Walk the Earth
3. War of Kings
All 3 of these albums are faultless. They are actually getting better with age, so that shows how great “Wings...” is, being their 2nd album.
Great band that kickstarted the Scandi Melodic Rock Movement, My ranking:
1- Debut Album
2- Wings of Tomorrow
3- Prisoners In Paradise
4- War of Kings
5- The Final Countdown
6- Last Look At Eden
7- Bag Of Bones
8- Walk The Earth
9- Out Of This World
10- Secret Society
11- Start From The Dark
Excelente 👏🏻👏🏻
PETE/ totally respect your Opinion/. I ve heard zero from the 2017 album. I will 💯 % pick up the “ Walk The Earth”. You are usually “ right on the $$$$! Thanks PETE !
I just listened to this album on TH-cam, wow, I had no idea. It's like an album I've always loved.
Thank You!!! So underrated. Love this band. So bummed their tour with Foreigner and Kansas this year was cancelled.
"Scream Of Anger" is one of the best Heavy Metal songs ever recorded
You’ve been saying for a long time how good their stuff is and I got War of Kings on your recommendation. It’s killer... need to get those others in your top four.
Great band
They're also one of those bands that sound even better live.
Hi Pete , thanks for turning me on to the new Europe albums, sorry I missed them, didn't know they were still making music.
So far loving
Secret society ( even though last on your ranking)
War of kings
Last look at Eden
Still checking out the other 3 .thanks again
Hi Pete, thanks for your review,I’m loving the later Europe. Soo heavy! Just got there last 4 albums! Killer!!!!
SO UNDERRATED LOVE EUROPE!!!!!!!! 1 OF MY FAVORITE BANDS OF ALL TIME!!!! HELL YEAH!!!! WINGS OF TOMORROW IS MY FAVORITE, THANKS FOR POSTING
You’ve inspired me to get their last four albums!!!! Thanks for the review!
So glad you highlighted their recent releases, they are a great band, very underated in my book
Check out Face the truth with John Norum and kees solo stuff.
Face the Truth beats anything Europe ever did, as far as I think!
You made me listen to more Europe. Thanks for that, Pete!
I feel like it's a bit similar with the Scorpions. If you only know Wind of Change or Rock You Like a Hurricane, you're missing out on the great early Roth-era albums.
Ok Pete, you convinced me, I’m going to check out the top albums on your list...thanks!
First concert I ever went to back in 85! They toured "Wings of tomorrow" in small venues here in Sweden and they were absolutely great! Saw them again in 2018 and they sure have aged well - heavier than ever!
I love the final count down song and I ain't ashamed to say it.
FINALLY!!! THe list we've all been waiting for!!!
Last Last look at Eden! Agree!! I actually love out of this world too!
Bought their first record the day it was realesed..I saw them on that summer tour..1983...Go Sweden..!
Hey Pete preach it Brother!!!!!!! That album The Final Countdown was the one main album I grew up with. and "Out Of This World." as well as "Prisoners in Paradise"
Europe the debut will melt your face off. A Teutonic masterpiece.
Prisoners Of Paradise is fantastic. Been listening to it all day, why is it last on this list.
great album
I will dig in and listen to Europe to check their music out. Cheers!
Hi Pete, Went back and listened again to Europe's last 4 albums , they are so very very good, been a fan for 30+ years👍
Yes, they are!
Thanks for suggesting Europe. They are a great band with lots of good cuts. I really dig Almost Unplugged from 2008.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention that Hero was written about Phil Lynott. Check out the video for the song.
i did explore few of their albums. very good indeed.
Thanks for the recommendation, Pete! The 2017 album is truly great!!!
Pete a brilliant band to rank and your ranking is about the same as mine. If you've not heard the live cd from Shepherd's Bush I would recommend that, truly stunning stuff.
I've been a huge Europe fan for 15 years now... so under-rated.
Have you ever done a Top 10 on the Kinks? Either songs or albums?
No big disagreement with you ranking, though I would have put out if this world a bit further up. Superstitious is a great song and there’s a few others on that album. I saw them live just before lockdown and they played walk the earth, which I was immediately hooked by, so got the album after that, and agree it’s great. Great review. Keep up the good work!
My buddy turned me on to your channel about four months ago but I have been watching you on my own for the last 6months in and off.
I listen to number one and number two on your list. I would’ve never listen to this band at all. I learn a lot of stuff from your channel. Tomorrow… Alice Cooper… I really like “From The Inside”
Love the tunes… Love the cover… Those fold open doors… Bernie Taupin and Bob Ezrin ...What’s not to like? Looking forward to that countdown !
Thanks !
Good morning Mr. Pete "SOT" Pardo ! How about an episode of ranking the studio albums of The Black Crowes . Arguably the best Rock and Roll band of the 90's.In my opinion they had a few phenomenal albums throughout their long career and some stellar musicians members. Cheers!
Love to hear your view on first three albums on the vastly under rated band RIOT with Guy on lead vocals. KILLER.
First three albums are superb. Overdrive and Road Racing are awesome tracks.
I will see Europe for the first time on Sept. 9, 2020 on tour with Foreigner and Kansas. Looking forward to it.
🤮
Good one from u Peat.. I had no idea Europe was that heavy. Another good band to showcase is Pretty Maids. love to hear ur comments on them.
You know what I'm going to dig into their library simply because you seem so passionate about how good these guys are. Gotta admit I'm curious.
Start with War of kings and Bag of bones ... Very nice albums!
Hi Pete your totally right.... The last four Europe Albums are amazing to me
My Ranking:
1.War of Kings
2.Last look at Eden
3.Walk the earth
4.Bag of Bones
.....Killer Material
So here we go:
11.Europe
10. Start from the dark
9. Secret society
8. The Final Countdown
7. Prisoners in paradise
6. Last look at Eden
5. Bag of bones
4. Wings of tomorrow
3. Out of this world
2. War of kings
Pete have you heard of the Canadian act called kick axe the LP vices dose not disapoint
I concur -- the term "underrated" is overused, but Golden Earring truly is ... stratospheres superior than the two songs casual fans know.
Caught them of their Aussie tour promoting Walk The Earth, two hours of ball crunching rock. Awesome live band and their recent albums are all killer.
