Megadeth is my favorite band of all time...I love everything this band has produced, every studio album. As a brazilian I didnt have many opportunities to see them live, last time was in 2016 with Kiko Loureiro, what a concert...Here comes my ranking, a little bit different than yours, especially when it comes to the first era and the most recent with Kiko.
    1. Rust In Peace (this and Ziggy Stardust from Bowie are my all time favorite albums)
    2. Peace Sells
    3. Countdown to Extinction
    4. Youthanasia
    5. Dystopia
    6. Endgame
    7. United Abominations
    8. So Far, So Good...So What
    9. Cryptic Writings (I know it deserves a better position, I really like it, but I think it is not as heavy as I wanted)
    10. Killing Is My Business (as you said, killer album, but the original production is not good for me, the most recent remaster is awesome tho)
    11. The System Has Failed
    12. Thirteen
    13. Super Collider
    14. Risk (It is not heavy, and it sounds weird a little bit, but some songs I really love, like Wanderlust, Prince of Darkness and Doctor Calling)
    15. The World Needs a Hero (long time no listen to any of the tracks)

      @MosoKaiser 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Amen! The 2004 remastes/remixes are horrendous, with perhaps the sole exception of SFSGSW, that one's decent to have alongside the original.
Fortunately pre-2004 pressings aren't too hard or too expensive to get, though. Or at least they weren't when I updated my Megadeth collection for the older pressings.
KIMB however is pricier if you want an old pressing with "These Boots" present _and_ uncensored. Shame the 2002 remaster has that godawful, unlistenable bleeped version of "Boots", and the 2018 version has an awkward reworked version with original lyrics to appease Lee Hazlewood's estate.

Robert Leese there’s a good remaster of TWNAH and The System Has Failed out recently that’s not a remix but just a remaster and actually makes both albums sound better. The drums have more depth and the guitar has more bite. Listen to Kick the Chair 2019 remaster on TH-cam and check it out or Dread and the Fugitive Mind 2019 remaster. Both sound better than the original and weren’t messed with by Mustaine but by a professional mastering engineer.

On The System Has Failed, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta brought a level of sophistication not often found on the typical thrash album. Over the course of one weekend, he learned all of the songs and recorded perfect takes - this simply blew Mustaine's mind. Chris Poland returned to record on that album simply because Colaiuta was involved.

    6. Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good! (1985)
These next bunch are also solid albums, and I enjoy them all to varying degrees:
    7. The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! (2022) - in my opinion, a massive return to form after a string of good, but very similar sounding albums released since Risk.
    8. Cryptic Writings (1997)

Peace Sells is so important to me. It is my fav also. It brings back a lot of good teenage memories. I was fortunate to see them in 1990. It was the Rust In Peace tour. They opened for Judas Priest which was the Painkiller tour. Amazing show. To top it off I ended up catching one of Marty's guitar picks. I still have it. Thanx for the video Pete. It brought back a lot of great memories. Stay safe

There’s really something to be said about some of the song structures on Rust. I mean look at Five Magics, it listens almost like a story. Doesn’t follow a tradition verse/chorus structure. So cool, so unique. They really captured lightning in a bottle on the record. Peace Sells and Rust trade 1 and 2 spots for me nearly everyday. Just insane records

Peace Sells does that too. The opening track Wake Up Dead has no repeating parts at all, every time there's a change in the song it's a new riff. From the beginning to the end. And it's still catchy as hell.

Hey Pete...I love this channel, when you rank bands & albums, it's thought provoking, seeing where we agree & differ.
I like the way you stress that we're all different & musical taste is subjective...so many people do get nasty about such things, and for no good reason.
I'd like to see a segment on the awesome VOIVOD.
It's your vids, so you can do whatever bands you want...but I can't resist recommending a cew bands - you may have done some already...you may or may not dig sone of these: Celtic Frost, Coroner, Onslaught (UK), Faith No More, and dunno if you've done Sepultura...
Whatever you do rate, I'll be watching.
You've clued me in to bands I'd not heard of...

Letting Lars Ulrich take up space in his head for so long was a probably one of the most foolish things (from a career standpoint) Dave did. (It's a great read btw. Whether or not you're a fan, I recommend it highly). I do know from it, & other interviews in other publications, that for a good many years Lars dissed Dave's playing for a long time After he formed Megadeth. But in the late 90s it was, "I really respect Dave as a musician but...". Bear in mind this was around the time they'd already come out with Load. The first Metallica album I tried to like, & couldn't. Even though I'd been a fan of theirs since almost the beginning. & let's face it, the Napster incident of the last decade didn't exactly help.

Ok, so I guess I'm part of the small minority that actually likes the Risk album. Is it classic thrash Megadeth? No, but that doesn't make it a bad metal/hard rock album in and of itself. I happen to really like Dave's vocals, and this is a strong album in that respect with loads of catchey hooks that I find myself singing along to. And if you listen to the last 2 or 3 albums leading up to this one you can hear the progession that led to Risk. I guess I like this one for the same reason I like Rush's Signals... because it was so different from anything they had done up to that point. Unfortunately (IMHO) Rush continued down that path, where as for Megadeth it was one and done... they got it out of their system and then moved on. If nothing else, I find Risk to me more memorable than the 6 or so albums since then that kinda all sound like the same formula and all run together in my mind. To each his own.
