Izzy, i am Law professor from Brazil, and i bought a tiny notebook to help me in my work. I chose a cheap one due to the violence in Brazil. It helps me a lot with its Office pack (word, powerpoint and excel) and its hdmi out (i can project my classes in the university data show). It is great to keep me productive out of home and its low weight helps my back. Great video!

This id straight up the content I subscribed for on this channel. I watch some of the major tech channels and they are so dissconnected from their audience . They'll 'review' a $150 budget tablet and end it by saying garbage like ' why would you buy this when an iPad pro is so much better' and I'm like 'bitch I'm poor, Apple don't even cross my mind. I came to see if the $150 tablet was a value buy!'
They live in a world where dropping $1000 on a phone and replacing it in two years is totally normal and I ain't about that life. Izzy keeps it real, they point out the value in in what they're reviewing right now and explain how they would use the product. Mad respect for that.

I love small tech. I recently got a PSP Go, and I was so giddy with how small and cool it looks. Most of my laptop use is for media consumption and for storing games and things for my PSP and PS Vita. I LOVE these tiny laptops and I wish they, along with smaller screened phones, would become more relevant again.

👍, 🤔 in a 🚫 too distant future, they might be able to do away with current smartphones that are becoming pretty much mini 🖥️ or tablet rather than an actual 🤳 which is kind of ridiculous, and bring 🔙 the digital minimalist phones along with portable 💻.

I have a couple of these! They're extremely useful for when I'm going somewhere and I know I'll be waiting for a long time, like a doctor's visit or a long car trip. Also nice for when I just need to get out of the house and still also need to do a little work. I first bought the GPD Win. I use it to make pixel art or to play games that my phone doesn't emulate well. I like it quite a lot, and am still trying to find the perfect pocketable mouse to pack with it. I bought the second mini computer because it had the 360 hinge and stylus support, and I use it to do non-pixel digital art. I just wanted something a little easier to carry around and sketch on than a laptop, and I haven't liked any of the tablet based art programs I've tried. I just bring whichever one suits my mood at the time when I leave, and it works well for me. My near vision is unusually good so the small screen doesn't bother me at all.

I'm interested in them for the portability but also to assist with syncing my phone and other devices together. I feel as though it serves well as an intermediary device and portable/ travel companion. I totally get the gamer aspect of it as well but I'm also thinking of it as a mobile business device with many niches for individuals who prefer digital mobile/nomadic based careers.

I was really into the netbook craze when they first hit, owning several different models. There came a point though that the netbooks I was buying were getting larger, more powerful, and I realised that I'd just be better off getting a proper laptop. It's the same problems with the mini-laptops of today. They are too small to type on comfortably for long periods and they lack the power and the screen real estate to do much productivity work.
So gaming? It's a good option but it also require that you carry more peripherals around with you. Personally it is just far more convenient to pull my phone out of my pocket for gaming on the go than having to start up my mini-pc, wait while Windows boots, take my mouse out of my pocket (or bag) and then sync it up when Windows has booted.
The GPD Win series at least has the benefit of having an in built controller but they aggravate even more the problems of mini-laptops in general.
I had an first generation Asus Eee and it came with Linux installed but also all the drivers you'd need for Windows XP, Windows 7 would not have been a nice experience on it.
This has been a good video to look at the pros and cons of them. Thanks for posting.

Back in the day I bought an HP netbook computer, and it was alright for what it was. I had been on the lookout for an affordable tiny laptop, I also like the idea of bringing a tiny windows device anywhere I go. A couple of years ago I bought a sony vaio P, I don't know if you remember those, they were some of the smallest netbooks ever made. They have not aged well, It couldn't run anything, so I sold it like six months after I got it. I finally ended up purchasing an ASUS E200HA 11 in laptop, which worked great, as it has very good battery life, I can browse the web, pay my bills, and I pretty much just wanted a portable typewriter. So that was my journey with tiny laptops.

I have a classical EeePC 701. I bought it especially because it ran Linux. Can't say I use it very much anymore - except for 32-bit tasks (like compiling 32 bit Linux binaries) and presentations. It has a VGA output and it's very pocketable. Really a thing when you want to travel lightly. I also have to add that the battery isn't good anymore, so it has little use while "on the road".

Got me through vocational school by the mere reason, that it would not run many games, no distractions from schoolwork. Just plop myself down, open up Word and write away. Nice keyboard, too. EeePC came out before windows 7. It had a 900MHz celeron underclocked to around 600, can't remember the exact number. The most common version had 4GB of storage and 512MB of ram and was entirely inadequate to run windows vista. Those first netbooks came with xp actually. I still have a MSI wind u100 somewhere, with 160GB HDD and 2GB ram and it also runs xp. My wife has a bit newer severely overheating dell that came with windows 7 though.

These do have one use case that comes to mind. Computer technicians that need to work on mainframe computers or even servers can carry one of these around a lot easier than a traditional 15.6" laptop. They can connect it to the mainframe or server and do what they need to do, even a little laptop with only a Atom or Celeron CPU can do that. The tech would have to install some Linux distro (for this purpose probably Debian) on it but from what I have read about these computer specs that shouldn't be that hard for them.

The need for a "pocket PC" goes further back into the 90s even. Take a look at the nec 900 or other powerPC products. Search for pocket PC. And you'll when see how palm and it's competitors were going larger and larger! The end result was the eeepc and the aao. People still desire a true wide pocket PC, but the prices of them aren't realistic.

The EEEPC was grrrrreat, I got one for my Ex at the time and she adores it. She had the Linux version, and used it heavikyvfir productivity. At the time she was a project manager. At the time, the Linux version was extremely cheap. Putting Windows on the was a huge mistake in the kart if the OEMs IMHO and killed the market. In order to keep them cheap, they had almost no storage in them, and Windows basically are itself after a couple updates.
I can see the Microsoft Duo becoming the mobile productivity vast of current times, assuming Microsoft actually takes care of it and doesn't abandon the project like they did with their other phones. The launch adoption on the consumer side will make or break it. Microsoft seems to instantly drop interest in a product if it's not a massive hit right off the bat.

I love the GPD Win, and it's what brought me to game again after a long while...but these things are still far from perfect. They overheat way too much with most 3D games, and the battery can bloat making it dangerous. The GPD Win Max is releasing this year, but it's way too big making it even more redundant. At least the main GPD Win line is just as big as a 3DS XL so they are true pocketables.
They're still awesome for indies, best emulators(cause Pc) and old stuf, and the best part is, there's so Switch tax for any game you buy cause you can just get them off Steam.

In 2014 I installed a atom tablet with windows on it in my car instead of the double din, and we played heroes (allied) and could watch movies and stuff. My fetish is very close to Izzy's: I want the most performance per watt in a 10 inch laptop with a retina screen. Maybe something like i5-8200y with 8ram and a 128ssd. I would pay 800 easy, but only full physical hard keyboard. Tried the surface go and it can barely handle firefox.... So why does it cost 600??? I would prefer this machine then. I might grind my teeth a bit longer and then get the GPD p2 max (8.9 inch). Can you review that one when you get a chance Izzy?

Tiny laptops are too expensive for what they offer, IMO.
You are better off just buying a raspberry pi, and build yourself a custom tiny laptop/portable gaming device. The good thing about this is that you won't spend more than 150 to 200$ on parts (raspberry pi, lcd display, lithium batteries, mini usb keyboard, and all the components needed to make this things work). The downside is that you need to have basic knowledge of how to solder, and it helps if you have access to a 3d printer to build a custom case for the device, however you could build a custom case out of wood, aluminum, and so on. Other than that, you just need to know how to follow basic instructions since there are multiple tutorials on how to build a custom laptop out of a raspberry pi.
Alternatively, just buy a pi-top. For around 300$ you can have it all made for you and delivered to your door.

smartphones suck, i never feel like im in control, you can only install things from their store, you can only use it the way google or apple want you to. i prefer laptops where i can install what i want (win or linux) and i like that i can use a real keyboard

“This is a spoiler for the video, pretend you didn’t see that.”
No need to pretend, I was searching through the channel page to find the Brazilian channel to see how many subscribers it has. Or maybe this is just me pretending. No I’m not, I totally wasn’t looking.
Edit: dang, didn’t realize how much of a side channel this really was.
