Definitely the best 1999 SW set. Its release was like a dream come true for the teenage me, when my two biggest child obsessions merged - Lego and SW.

The Pod Race was definitely one of the best things to come out of the Prequel Trilogy in general, and as far as I know, this was the only time we've gotten Gasgano's pod as a set. His inclusion is interesting, considering that he isn't introduced by name in scene 19-and along with Anakin and Aldar Beedo, is the only contestant whose pod isn't destroyed during the race. Though inaccurate in here, this is one of only four sets to have the 1x8x1 "brick w/shaft" in transparent fluorescent reddish orange-which was retired in 2001, as was the flying helmet in light grey in the same year. On Sebulba's pod, the 2x2 brick w/bow and knobs and the 3x3x6 engine in orange are exclusive to this set. Many other parts on it in orange, like the 4x4 plate and the 2x3 roof tiles, appeared in fewer than ten sets overall, before being retired between 2010 and 2012. The 1x2x1 wall element in that color debuted here and was retired after the 2011 version (7962). On Anakin's pod, the 2x8 "flaps" in yellow were only in two sets from the "Exo-Force" theme after this, one of which I had (7712). On Gasgano's pod, the 1x2x2 corner brick in Mata green debuted here, and has appeared in 27 other sets to date, only three of which I have. I think the purple parts on it are also exclusive. The streamer in the same color was retired four years ago, in blue seven years ago, and in yellow ten years ago.

Hey I agree, the podracers were something very unique, personally love this set. And yeah lot of rare parts. Crazy how many honestly

Jar Jar Binks was one of the first minifigures to have a uniquely moulded head piece along with C-3PO :)

Yeah, its cool how Star Wars kinda forced LEGO to get into moulds, made them branch out a bit

Nice set! I wanted this back in the day, but I cheaped out and got 7131 Anakin's Podracer instead.

@@TieTheLegoGuy were both those sets out the same year? Seems strange for Lego to put out two versions of the Anakin podracer at the same time

@@Hobager Late, but yes they were. I thought it was weird when they came out also

Nice review. I hadn't taken a close look at the other two pod racers before, which are both better than Anakin's. I got just the Anakin set from a thrift store haul...it was missing a few pieces...I still need to get the two black hoses to complete it.
I agree, pretty dated. I have the new pod racer set to build with the clear technic pieces which are a lot better than the tan.
I did get a newer Sebulba figure in a used haul...so much better than the older one...upgrading definitely helps the set a bit.

You would have a almost complete set of the original pod racer 😉
Yeah i really think Anakins is the most dated of them all
Definitely, i prefer the new but respect the effort they went into the mold of Sebulba
