I just got this sub, tested it in the shop, paired it with my yamaha hs8 monitors , set the crossover to 120hz and flipped the phase 180 , i don`t know if i got lucky, but this sub is so clean and accurate that it improved the dynamics of my low end, and the monitors now sound more linear and expensive .
One huge CON: If you have a 2.1 setup like in this video and wire the monitors though the sub, it will go to sleep after 10 minutes and take about 5 seconds to wake up, no way to turn this auto-off feature, super frustrating issue. Also if you are at low volume it may even turn off, and you have to boost the volume to wake it up, its super bad design for regular desktop users.
I had a big big 380watt studiosubwoofer over 20 years. I rarely use it. Sometimes i just need that big boom. On my old stereo i had bass boost button. New gear is just not built for it but my subwoofer can for sure make up for it. I never use it for mixing, but its nice when listening to music or watching movies.
@Creative Sauce Hi Mike, ım already have T8Vs and fell ın love with that! I will buy T10S for low end extension thx for the recommendations also ı have some couple questions about that. What is ur crossover settings in T10S and what is ur T8V EQ settings? regards...
I use the T7V monitors with the T10S subwoofer. My setup is sweet. I had to buy a foot pedal, but they aren't that expensive. I turn the sub off at night (for the neighbours sake). I like how it takes the pressure off the main monitors so my main monitors only have to deal with mids and highs whilst the sub woofer takes care of the lows. I think the sound produced adds clarity I have been using the T10S for about a year and would recommend any producer to get one.
Thanks to your reviews, I have bought myself the Warm Audio WA87R mic and lately the Adam T7V (I have a small untreated room). Been following your tutorials on recording to mixing to mastering too. Mighty pleased with the results.
Hi Mike, I bought this about 6 months ago and I echo your recommendation about setting it up correctly. I too tried to skip this step at the beginning and it ended up being too out of balance. After understanding the concept of extending vs increasing the loudness, the setup process is critical.
@@CreativeSauce it has been really good. I too hear things I missed before. I do need to get the foot switch though! Thanks for all your videos by the way, I really enjoy them.
I have a question. If you buy a sub like this t10s. Do the bass in the main speakers dissapear or can you turn it off. Because the t8v,s are going down to 33hz, and t7vs down to 38hz i think. the sub crossover is around 80hz. how do the bass not collide?
@@MeerQy_Music Hi, the crossover frequency setting on the sub is what tells the sub when to back off. For example, if you set it at 80Hz, that's the frequency or a bit before, to be accurate, where the sub starts blending the signal to the main speakers until it fades completely out of the sub and fades fully into the mains. So 28 Hz to 80 Hz are covered by the sub, and 80 Hz and up are covered by the main speakers with a bit of overlap. Think of it as an equal power crossfade with 80 Hz being the center of the fade.
@@2clauSorry to ask a question you answered 5 months ago. But do you know if you use a footswitch to bypass the sun does it bypass the crossover too? Or will it still be 80hz+ to the monitors?
Due to doors, breaker boxes, and piping, it’s challenging or near impossible for me to put up proper bass traps. I have cheaper JBL 305 monitors and am looking to improve my low end. Would you recommend a sub if bass traps are not necessarily able to be used??
Great video and kudos for recommending the setup and calibration step! I bought this sub to pair with my T7V's and it definitely extends the low end! I have a question: The standby feature can be frustrating when playing back at a moderate level. As mentioned already, if the sub goes into standby you need to boost the signal to activate the sub. Is there a solution for this?
audio quality is good, but it does something I truly dislike: the automatic stand by mode. Its is the most annoying thing, and there is no way to turn it off. so I am working on the daw and when I hit play it takes a couple of seconds for it to figure out it needs to go on. If I could go back in time, would likely not buy it.
Hello Mike, I loved the way you have explained everything. I have Adam t5v monitors and I want to buy this to extend bass. Can I buy this? I have two questions, so please guide me regarding this. My questions are 1) How this subwoofer can be isolated properly to stop vibration and rattling? 2) If I buy this, can I place this under my desk on wooden floor which is like box. Will be waiting for your answers
Hi Mike, that was interesting! Risking to become a nuisance, I would like to point to my lack of understanding: A subwoofer is one single source of sound that is furthermore isolated frequency-wise from the satellites. So why can phase issues happen? It's not to annoy you, I simply can't seem to understand the basic concept!
Hey my friend! So there is a crossover of frequencies, rather than a cut off. So for some of the range, that sound is being shared by the sub, and the woofer in the main monitor. If they are at a different distance, they reach your listening position at a different time. One source can then have they affect of then cancelling the other. Ummmm, I fear that words are a poor substitute for a diagram at this point, so I hope that makes sense!
@@CreativeSauce It did make sense! I didn't realize that the crossover is exposed enough to introduce serious phase issues. In my mind it was basically two different sound streams that don't interfere with each other. Which of course is stupid!
Thanks for this review! I'm wondering how tight and precise and clear the bass is from this sub? I'm looking for a suitable subwoofer to pair with my Focal Shape 50 nearfield monitors and I want to find something that will be really compatible with the Focals. Thanks again!
I know that this is out of the topic but it would be great if you would make a video on surround mixing in cakewalk. Btw I find your videos very very useful
They work well together. Now about that sleep mode. I will try jacking down the speaker volume levels and driving the signal higher through my interface as suggested by ADAM audio.
i heard this sub is more for the t5V, and t7V, i didnt think it was sdesigned for the 8" as it seems to have plenty bass. with that said, i would think the T5V would be KILLER with this sub, as 5" are great for MIDS, thoughts anyone?, just seems like an 8" woofer with this 10" is kinda overkill, and i do understand it crosses over the tops, but, still
Hi Mike, I have a small room with the Adam a 7X monitors I’m looking for more bottom end. I don’t have bass traps But my second monitors are the big Mackies But you said in your video that you don’t , encourage buying if you don’t have traps. Surely if I’m hearing good bass out of the Mackies I will get something out of the Adam sub. Many thanks
Hey Mike, I only have a small room from about 2,5m x 3,5m. Is this too small to use a subwoofer in? And what about the speakers? I was thinking about the Adam T7V's, but also here I'm in doubt. Maybe they are too big for my room? What's your advice?

The crossover at 80hz means sub takes everything lower than that while your 2 monitors will take everything over 80 to their highest limit. So less distortion and bigger (arguably complete/true) sound image hopefully. gets brighter too

Should I pair the A5x with the 8 or 10sub?
I just noticed, that there are nearly no cuts while you are speaking, wow!
