Absolutey brilliant instructional, best one Ive seen! Before this, I could just about make a rough face shape. But by watching this once and following along Ive made a really good quality piece and I'm about to head out for more wood in a minute. I need to do a lot of eye carving practice though, and learn how to do this without a guide.
Just Beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing! I've been watching a lot of carving videos over the last couple of months, and I finally ordered two Mori knives. I can't wait till they get here and I can get started . Thanks again . Rick.
I'm so glad I found your videos. I want to make my sister a walking stick for Christmas. I want to do small air-dry clay flowers with wood burning to do leaves and such. In other words... Some of the cane carved in and flowers will be on top. I also want to color the flowers with pastels for a softer look. I haven't seen anything like what I have in my mind but thank you for inspiring me. Your a very gifted person... Thank you... Rose from Central Florida.
i've always wondered about people giving a "thumbs down" on a simple, helpful and straightforward (NON POLITICAL) video such as this one!... Someone like Mark Hanson demonstrating and sharing a skill with others of their art... WHAT are they thinking?... Strange hateful folk filled with Jealousy?
Questions if you have time to answer. Particular types of trees to use for whittling? Do I need to let the wood cure any before trying to whittle the mans face? I went out to the woods beside my home, chopped off a small branch of idk what kind of tree. The wood is so hard that the whittling knife barely wants to cut it. I'm trying to teach myself.
I was planning in doing a video on types of woods for woodcarving. I'm on vacation for next couple of weeks but I'll make it sometime after I get back.
I love it. I want to learn how to carve wood spirit's in my tobacco pipes. I'm a pipe maker and want to up my game. This video helps me a long way. Only thing is that i don't have any carving tools jet other than my Swiss army knife. Fingers crossed i won't hurt my self :D
@@IdRatherMakeItMyself-Net Ok, today i made a dummy pipe from pine so i can praktise carving. I am going to subscribe to your channel so i can send you a picture and start watching your video's. I see a Tear Drop caravan and a bunch of Wood Spirit's and other interesting woodworkings.
It would be so nice to have this skill. I would carve for hours. I guess that's how you developed it. Work and diligence, not to mention talent. I envy you sir. take care and I will subscribe. 👌
Is it normal to be aroused by spalted wood? I find myself working with almost exclusively spalted wood. Don’t care what it is. Spalted Birch, Ambrosia Maple, anything spalted. I had an ancient cottonwood tree in my backyard fall and I’ve been making all kinds of stuff with spalted wood lately. Goddamn. I really, really, *really* love spalted wood.
Oh wow you just reminded me that I saw some discarded Pine that was taken over by a type of blue stain fungus which I should get, if its useable. Have you any experience with that?

evzevz06 once you memorize the process the fun really begins. You’re able to create your own designs and nuances ! Have fun!

Truly enjoyed this video; one of THE BEST! Man, THAT was some TOUGH WOOD!
Thanks. It was tough. :)
Thanks for the demonstration, looks great!
Looks really good !!
Thank you for uploading.
Thank you sir. I'm just starting to carve and I have some downed sycamore limbs that will do nicely for this. I'll use this video for a reference.
Good. I hope it helps.
Thumbs down to the thirteen thumbs down. They most likely could not carve a pointed stick. great video

Strange hateful folk filled with Jealousy?
I would imagine the thumbs down are because the video is often out of focus and that makes it difficult to follow.
Thank you , I am new at this, but videos like this are a great help , Life’s a Birch, and then we die, 🥴Thomas Vickers

This reminds me of every time I try to hand carve hard woods... I almost always grab the dremel eventually.
nicely done.. did you boiled linseed oil?
I can't remember what I used. I often use BLO but it might have been a mixture of BLO, mineral spirits, and polyurethane or varnish.
very nicely done, thank yo for sharing,.
We enjoyed your channel so we subbed you as well. Thanks again and have a blessed week.

Man that’s cool, have you done a Green Man before?
