I have been a college history professor for over 25 years. The students I have who were homeschooled have always been great. They tend to be better prepared, and more eager to learn. I have been so impressed that I put all my lectures on TH-cam as a free resource. Mainly Western civilization and the history of the Middle East. The material I have is not as suited for younger kids, but if anyone has older children, or parents just want to watch to help teach their younger kids it may be a helpful resource.

Thanks for sharing the Building Writers books from Learning Without Tears. I might grab one for my third grader. We haven't really done much writing this year.
I also used Primary Mathematics for my daughter. I switched to Singapore's Dimensions Math for grades 7 and 8. It was a good program, but when grade 9 came along I was at a loss for what to do. She ended up filling in the gaps of Algebra 2 and Geometry her freshman year with an independent study course and did Pre-Calculus sophomore year using online classes at High School Math Live.
I"m using Dimensions Math with my 3rd grader. Hopefully his transition to high school math will be easier.

I’m really loving the ease of Building Writers. I hope your 3rd grader enjoys it. Thanks for the info about Dimensions! I’ll look into it and the online classes for later on.

Great info. Thanks for sharing. Question for you. We have moved our district to a 4-day school week. Have you tried this? Our students love it. Your thoughts?

You’re welcome! The charter I’m with is on a 5-day schedule, so we haven’t tried a 4-day schedule.

Do you think that kids learn their math facts well and have them memorized with Singapore? Did you add in extra drill practice?

I do add in extra drill practice when I see the need. I like to use these BIG math fact workbooks and just use them when needed. (amzn.to/44uWHpi *affiliate link) I have also used flash cards on occasion. Although, Singapore focuses on mental math a lot, so it really will depend on the child. I hope that answers your questions.

Excited to see how your math search goes. We have used Primary Mathematics going into 5a this year too and not sure what we’ll switch to in 7th. I’m thinking Saxon ??? We will see!

Saxon is on my list of possible next steps. I have a friend who went from Primary Mathematics to Saxon this year, so I’m waiting to see how they like it. :)

A lady I follow who has graduated 2 who went to MIT used primary math then switched over to ALEKS. It is an online program. Might be worth checking out.

Do you have the link directly to Ambleside’s book lists? When I search, I can’t find an exact listing for literature suggestions by year.

I get the booklist from the schedule. Here is the link for year 2: www.amblesideonline.org/ao-y2-sch
When you open the schedule you will see “Free Reads” on page 2. That’s the list I use.
You can also find the master booklist from the homepage by selecting resources > Master Booklist. That opens a Google sheet where you can view all of the books, but it shows which are free reads and the year.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you still can’t find it.

I haven’t used this, but Singapore Dimensions goes all the way through grade 8.

This is good to know. I never really looked at the other versions too closely. I’ll have to compare those. Thanks!
